Day 652

I recently had the extreme honor...

And Pleasure to speak at the National Convention of the Casey Family
Programs - Project Head to Toe...in Hollywood, where our esteemed Galen
presented 2 day earlier.

750 were in attendance - they were mostly foster kids that are aging
out of the program along with alumni and Special Mentors that
unselfishly give their time and efforts, notably Jeff Penix and
Virginia Pryor.

At the closing ceremonies, a group of teenagers from Las Vegas gave
their speeches, all of them were inspiring, but one struck
me...Dequevies Williams, who had a tough life but seemed to use his
past to "Spin it and Win it", and it went:

I stand today knowing that I'm better than a stereotype,
Stronger than a law,
Wiser than a simple book,
And I refuse to be a statistic,
I stand today knowing that I'm a dream come true.

Value is judged...

By the Person.

I have witnessed a ton of choices made by the ones I have the pleasure
to work with on goal setting.

They pick something or an area in their life that is valuable to them
to acquire, achieve or get done and the range of choices is really all
over the chart.

Choices have been creating better relationships, fixing a car, saving
money, releasing weight, getting back in school...and the list gets
even "farther out"...but one common link is that most choices have
nothing to do with the others, yet are extremely valuable to the person.

What is most Valuable to you?

I've had the Pleasure of...

Having a chat with many who have shared their challenges with me.

A common thread that weaves through most all of the conversations is that
the people all have been intently focusing on the challenges in their
lives.

They have "Spun it and Won it" by redirecting their focus on What is
good in their lives, or on a Solution, instead of their focusing on
their challenges.
