When I was a kid...

All pools weren't concrete and plaster.

I grew up with blowups, metal walled and dough boys, and the game was
to "Blow the water out of the pool", as much as possible, the more the
better.

We did "cannon balls', "watermelons", even the "Pittsburgh plunge" and
an occasional "wagon wheel whip"...and the winner was the one who got
the most people standing around...wet.

Well, time moves on, and I bet this weekend, we can all do what we do best, with our family and friends.

Will it be our mad cooking skills, unparalleled guitar hero genius,
world class card shark abilities, or just our inherent talent of
attempting to hit a golf ball.

Whatever it is, let's plan on getting some folks wet.

The chain of Command...

Usually brings about a chain of emotion.

Focusing on what an employee does wrong, instead of what they do right,
begets the employee focusing on what others are doing wrong, instead of
what they are doing right.

Empowering an employee for their talents and skills, translates to the
employee empowering others for their talents and skills.

And in each case, the chain of emotion, mirrors the chain of command.

Are you an Originator...

Or an Imitator?

It's OK - either way...

Imitating is a great form of practice, as you hone your talent and
skills towards your passion. Let's face it, we have to practice the
basics before we can make things our own - and following someone or
something else as a guide, is a great way to go.

But there always comes a time when the Imitator has had enough practice
and can evolve into an Originator...personalizing what they do, with
their own "flair".

So keep up the practice and when you're ready - make it your own.

After all, you're not a copy, you're an original - so you need to
eventually roll that way.

Don't adorn your Hero...

Be the Hero.

When we grew up, we all had Hero's in our lives that we looked up to
and adorned.

Whether they were a cartoon Hero, a Hero on TV or in the movies, or
just someone in real life that we looked up to - we all had our Hero's.

But as in growing older, there is always the time where the student
becomes the teacher - and maybe it's time for us to be our own Hero?

Just think of the skills and attributes that your childhood Hero had,
and make them you own - and maybe over time, we might just need to wear
a cape:)

Being a Champion...

Often times, makes one stand out.

And why not? Being a Champion usually means that there has been a lot
of study, training and preparation in whatever the Champion has chosen
to excel at.

A Champion can either be born with talent or develop some pretty sweet
skills that makes them "Best in Class"...and many times, they become a
target for those who aspire to become better than them.

That's why some of us stay "small" - so we blend in - without a target
on our back, and have no fear of being beaten - yet no chance of Glory
either.

Let's go Big and become our own Champion - it may feel uncomfortable at
first, standing out for a while, but we'll get over it.
