Day 921

Overwhelmed?

Well, the feeling usually comes when we are not in balance.

Doing too much of one thing, or many things, and not doing enough for
ourselves to get our batteries charged - and to get "whole" is usually
the culprit.

Focusing is a great thing, in the short term, but focusing on something
too long, can make our view...get a bit fuzzy.

We just need to "air it out" and take some breaks along our journey to
properly balance out...making us much more likely to complete the
journey we've started.

Maybe our mantra should be: "I am so balanced, I should be walking on a high wire".

And in doing so - we are reminded to balance along the way.

Many times we...

Compare our "worst" to everyone's "best".

We just want to see how we stack up against the competition, nothing
wrong with that.

But in doing so, we sometimes set ourselves up for failure, if we don't
think
about all the things we are good at.

We can't be good at everything and there are many people that are
smarter, stronger, faster, and healthier, but it doesn't mean that we
don't have just as many good things about us, as all the rest.

So when we size ourselves up to others, we just need to stay mindful of
the qualities we possess, in order to keep things in perspective.

Just because someone...

Says "No" to you.

Doesn't mean you have to say "No" to yourself!

We have all experienced more "No's" in our lifetime than we would like
to admit, and when you really think about it, they usually have come
from someone not really understanding us, or what we were asking.

And the one who accepts the "No", is really saying "No" to themselves,
which is a shame, because it didn't even come from them.

So always remember, no matter who says "No" to you, never say "No" to
yourself...it's just not right.

If we lack the courage to start...

We have already finished.

Thinking back, we may be able to recall what we have never started, but
wanted to, and what we never started...lies in the "bone pile".

We can always resurrect what we have wanted to do, by making a plan to
get it going.

What usually stops us from starting is our excuses and our focus on
what can go wrong or the road blocks that may get in the way.

But with a little courage, we can focus on the result and the
anticipated benefits and outcome, once we do begin.

Otherwise - if we don't start...we are already finished.

Great Intentions...

Need to be coupled with great execution.

Otherwise, it doesn't become reality.

It's like a great idea, without a plan...it just stays an idea.

So let's make it our point to have our great ideas and great intentions
to have a solid game plan with excellent execution.

That way, what is started, can be finished.

Our greatest ability we possess...

Is our ability to Choose.

Knowing it is our choice in everything we do...and the benefits or
consequences that come as a result of our choices can be the beautiful
part...or the scary part.

What if we get it wrong?

Most of us have been more wrong than right when it comes to our choices

  • and that's OK - That's Life!

We just need to let our good choices play out and the poor choices need
to be re-chosen, as soon as it makes sense.

So remember - we chose it, so enjoy it - or live with it until another
choice is made.

It's not work...

It's Practice.

Spin it and Win it!

By doing something on a repeated basis, we only get better at it as we
do it. So why not think of it as practice and see just how good we can
get.

Remember, it's not what we do, it's how we do it.

So whatever we do, and choose to Spin, whether it's dusting, playing
guitar, homework, exercise, working ...whatever...Let's take it to the Top!

Of 5 of our closest friends...

Our average income, is usually the same, give or take 20%.

That's what research tells us.

And that's OK if you want to keep having the same income, but if you
want a bit more, it's who we hang out with that can be the
sticking point.

We're not saying dump your old friends, but people tend to have the
"herd" mentality and the old saying "birds of a feather, flock
together" is never so true.

So if you want to raise your game, some new friends that bring about
some new ideas and interests...may be something to think about.

How does your...

Positive train leave the station?

Does it take until that first cup of coffee? Which is your turning "set
point"...good to have a starting line.

Or do you do it "reptilian style" and take your time, as you start to
move around and get warmed up and get the blood flowing?...slow and
sure is always a good bet.

Does it hit even before you get up out of bed, by thinking of how great
the day is going to be?...not a bad idea.

Or do you have to clap your hands and declare how great your day will
be?...sometimes we need jump start.

We can do it any way we like- and they are all great ways, just be
mindful that whatever we choose, we just need to make sure we to choose
to have a
positive train leaving the station.

Between birth and death...

Is life...and is the time for living.

We're talking about really living, not just being alive.

We have the ability to choose what we want to do, and how we want to do
it, and at one end of the scale, we can just drudge along or on the
other end we can be totally excited in all that we do.

It is really up to us on how we spend our time living.

We don't always have to "red line" at the totally excited range, but
then again, we don't have to drudge along, from day to day
either...somewhere in the middle, at a minimum is a solid plan.

Communication is Key

Ever reached out to someone and they don't get back to you?

It kind of holds up what you reached out for...and also kind of
"smacks" of, "You don't matter", right?

And that kind of message is not the best one to ever receive.

We have handled that challenge here at Zappos and make every possible
effort to have "same day" responses...and a 24 hour maximum.

That's just another way we are lending a helping hand for the progress
of
others, getting things done and making people feel like they matter,
because they do.

End Zone or...

Friend Zone? Or maybe both?

And End Zone in sports is the place where you end up after you scored
some points and can rest for a bit, basically a haven where you can
feel good about yourself and what you have accomplished.

And a Friend Zone is basically the same...a place where you can go to
rest for a bit and feel good about your self - and can also, most
certainly be a haven.

So when the world around us gets a little "blistery" all we need to do
is go to our Friend Zone - for for a little R and R.

What's your "ripple effect"?

And we're no talking the ripple effect on water...but it contains the
same concept.

The "ripple effect" is a term used in Sociology, and can be observed
how social interactions can affect situations not directly related to
the initial interaction.

The "ripple effect" is basically the spread of behavior within a group.
Whether the behavior is positive, negative, loud or quite...the
behavior spreads throughout the rest of the group.

So in understanding this concept, we can also understand that
maintaining a Great Culture must not rely on the group as a whole, but
the individuals and their positive and caring behavior which causes the
"ripple effect" to result in the Great Culture.

We are always touching something...

Unless we are jumping off the ground, but even then, we are
touching air.

We need to understand that we are always touching something...life is a
contact sport.

It may not make a lot of difference when we touch a table or the
ground, or touch a chair as we sit down, for these are inanimate
objects and don't really contain feelings.

But sometimes we touch peoples minds, while other times we may be
touching their hearts. We can touch someones "situation" in a good way
or not so good way - bringing them up or down.

So let's all stay mindful of what or who we are touching, on a daily
basis, for our touch may have an impact that can change another's life.

Sometimes, we have better things "to do"...

Than what's on our "to do" list.

We are not suggesting "blowing things off", but we sometimes need to
balance out.

"To do" lists are always there, and never get totally done, as life
always has
us add to them.

So why not just do some important things that are not on our list, and
which doesn't have to do with "stuff".

Maybe we can spend some alone time and re-charge our battery, or spend
some quality time with some of our friends or family, or maybe just
"be".

We all need to balance, and when we do, we don't need to worry, because
our "to do"
list will be there when we're done:)
