Contrary to popular belief, smoky is not a color, it’s a technique. Smoky eyes this season are done with purple and brown eyeshadow for day – it’s less intense than charcoal. Try using a cream shadow, like Besame cream shadow in Sumatra, under a lighter powder shadow, like Besame __ eye trio, blending around the eyes. Both shadows in different consistencies give your smoky look more staying power.

Maybe some photos with brush strokes and techniques would help illustrate your point a little better..

That's a great suggestion Casey, and it's something we are working on. In the meantime, follow these steps to do a great smoky eye yourself:

Find a color complimentary to your eye color for the most striking results. Prep your lid with an eyeshadow base to keep eyeshadow from melting into your crease. Next, apply eyeliner to your upper and lower lash line, smudging it on your lower lash line so it?s not as extreme. You should have at least two colors to finish the smoky eye ? apply the lighter color up to your browbone and blend the darker color over it up to the crease. Blend color into your lash line so the eyeliner isn?t as obvious, make sure your eye makeup is even on both eyes. To perfect the look, blend color with a Q-tip and finish with mascara.
