THINGS GO BETTER WITH DIET COCA COLA

Jun 30, 2008 by Stephanie R.

Well at least in Patricia Field’s world they do. The stylist/designer has been commissioned by Selfedriges in London to design a limited edition Diet Coca Cola bottle sets to be sold exclusively at their stores and on Field’s website, patriciafield.com. There are four bottle in total, and no, they do not represent any of the Sex And The City characters. The bottles represent passion (the red one), fashion (the turquoise one), career (the gold one) and love (the pink one). Only 25 sets will be sold online at Field’s site, patriciafields.com, so you have to act quickly or else you only choice will be to hop a flight to London.

COLETTE POPS UP

Jun 27, 2008 by Stephanie R.

Louis Vuitton started the pop up concept this year with the pop up Vuitton stores within Japanese artist Murakami’s art installations, with the stores featuring bags by the artist. Well it has caught on and now Colette will have a pop up mini store in New York City this summer on Fifth Avenue at 54th Street. The store will be set up for one month from September 6 through October 5. Colette, as you know (and again a fashion shame on you if you do not) is the hip, chic Parisian behemoth at 213 rue Saint-Honoré which carries all of the cutting edge labels and luxury designers that any fashionista, tourista and Lou Doillon wanna be could not live without. Much to the chagrin of Parisians, Colette will temporarily close its store for massive renovations starting July 7th, with an anticipated reopening by the end of August. Don’t be to upset though if you are in Paris and want to shop there, they will have a Suprette parked out front so you can still get your shop on.

It is funny how persuasive the news media can be when it comes to celebs, ‘It’ girls and creating the buzz around the latest must-have accessories. For instance, Couture has been loving the Delman Uli ankle strap thong sandal for months now. Why? Because they are simply designed, comfortable yet very chic, making them perfect for almost any occasion. They can be paired with white jeans and a leopard print halter top, with a great LBD (little black dress) or with shorts and a T-shirt. Clearly, we are not the only ones loving this shoe, the Delman Uli recently was given a shout out in June’s In Style magazine. Couture.Zappos.com carries the featured Silver Mirrored Metallic, as well as the lovely Rose Gold Mirrored Metallic hue and the delightful Midnight Blue Mirrored Metallic hue. And yes, Couture was, again, ahead of the trend curve here.

PATRICIA FIELD'S DESTINATION STYLE

Jun 25, 2008 by Stephanie R.

Ms. Field is quite the busy woman these days, even with the cancellation of Cashmere Mafia. There is the frenzy surrounding the Sex And The City movie, her ongoing collaboration with Payless, styling videos for one of the hottest songbirds in Japan, to name a few. But her plate just got a little fuller with her latest collaboration with the Home Shopping Network. Patricia and her long-time design partner, David Dalrymple, have created a 50-piece collection that ranges from sportswear to denim, dresses and accessories to be sold exclusively on HSN for five days starting September 23. The idea, according to HSN’s Chief Executive Officer, Mindy Grossman, is to build buzz around the brand with an event during New York Fashion Week, which will also include a runway show and will be broadcast on HSN and HSN.com at launch time.

Many of the pieces, which span her career as a stylist and designer, will be recognizable to viewers, Field told WWD. The looks for sale range from the now iconic dress that Sarah Jessica’s character Carrie wore in the SATC movie, her famous T-shirt dresses with her Martine illustrations and a sequin blazer, to name a few. So ladies, if you can’t get to New York City to check out her Patricia Field store on Bowery, then this is the next best thing.

Polo shirts
for guys with the collar popped up is hot. Not! But really, the popped collar trend is so over – wear your polo with board shorts or khaki shorts and flip flops and you’ll look every bit casual cool. Again, restrain yourself from popping the collar. It’s over. Move on.

Summer fashion should be comfortable and casual, which is why sneakers are ideal for guys. So, tell us fellas, which sneaker would you choose to wear out and about from the beach to the bar and why? The Cesare Paciotti Euro-inspired sneaker or the Marc Jacobs sportier pair?

KARL LAGERFELD ON THE ROAD

Jun 20, 2008 by Stephanie R.

The man with the golden touch and fingerless gloves, Karl Lagerfeld, designer of Chanel, Fendi, Lagerfeld Gallery, product campaign photographer, writer, has just added road safety to his lofty resume. One does not think of road safety as a hot or sexy commodity, nor do you associate the Kaiser with a fluorescent yellow safety vest, but it is a collaboration that is underway for summertime. Lagerfeld will appear in the road safety ads in France with his typical dour expression, white ponytail and dark glasses, all the while sporting the yellow safety vest encouraging drivers to equip themselves with safety vests with this simple statement, "It's yellow, it's ugly, it doesn't match anything, but it can save your life." But fear not, Karl remains his stylish self, pairing the safety vest with a black suit, crisp white shirt and bow tie.

With the Beijing Olympics just months away, sporting modern asian-interpreted styles is so ahead of the trend curve that will ensue. Be inspired by Mandarin collars, Emperor jackets, origami or as we were, the male Yukata (lite, summer kimono). We chose this French Connection Dune Dream wrap dress for its modernizing of the Yukata with its dropped waist, deep criss-cross front and low slung belt. But remember folks you heard the trend-spot here first!

The Couture team is craving fabulous jewelry to highlight any outfit. Not just simple, sweet pieces, but rather, sophisticated, statement-making jewelry. Some of our favorites: the opulent, art deco-inspired Jean Paul Gaultier double-tiered disc necklace, the King Baby Studio urban chic 3D crown heart necklace, Judith Jack's 1930's-inspired stack rings and Shiela Fajl's organic full leaf drop earrings.

ALL HAIL HER EXCELLENCY!

One of the most powerful women in fashion today, Anna Wintour, Editrix of Vogue Magazine, has been named an OBE, or the official title, Officer of the Civil Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II, for her contributions to British Journalism (she is a Brit after all, in case you did not know it). Long title, no? The OBE announcements were made this past Saturday, with Wintour being the second Brit in fashion in less than a month’s time to be named OBE; Glenda Bailey of Harper’s Bazaar was named earlier in the month. An esteemed recognition definitely, but surely not as pulse-quickening as the newest Dolce & Gabanna or Prada accessory awaiting you on your front row seat at fashion week.

CHÉRIE AMOR

The lovely, talented Francophile Sofia Coppola will be exercising more of her director chops this fall when she shoots the new Dior Beauté Miss Dior Chérie fragrance, as reported in Fashion Week Daily on May 30. The award-winning Ms. Coppola is hardly new to directing — The Virgin Suicides, Marie Antoinette, Lost in Translation, to name a few, have made her the darling of the industry, so shooting a commercial for Dior should be a breeze. It has been leaked that she will shoot at Versailles in the style of Marie Antoinette. Does that mean pale faces, powdered wigs and lots of blood-red rouge stained lips?

Makeup for men? Rockers, goths and Pete Wentz wannabes all wear makeup, would you love 'em or hate 'em if your guy wore makeup? More importantly, would you share yours? Our faves, whether you are male or female, for dramatic eyes are Lola's Cream Shadow in Lava and Paula Dorf's eye pencil in Ebony. But do tell us what you think, we really want to know.

Makeup artists Trish McEvoy, Laura Mercier and Bobbi Brown each designed limited edition as in June only Havaianas with proceeds benefiting charity: water (charitywater.org). Trish McEvoy designed the light blue pair with pink stars, Laura Mercier designed the pair with allover kisses and Bobbi Brown went simple with a blue pair that reads "life's a beach." At an afforadable $15 a pair, available at Saks, picking up a pair of their adorable styles won't break the bank, and it goes to a good cause!

ADIEU YVES

Jun 2, 2008 by Stephanie R.

The legendary couturier and trailblazer Yves Saint Laurent died at his home in Paris late Sunday after a prolonged illness. The designer, considered by many to be one of the greatest designers in history, began his 50 year-plus career at the tender age of 21, when he blazed an assured trail by replacing the original legend, couturier Christian Dior himself.

Yves would go on to become a beloved icon, known for shaking up the buttoned-up tight collars of Parisian couture with street influences and seductive nuances like the Le Smoking Jacket atop a bare chest, the menswear-inspired tuxedo for women, the 'into the wild' look of the lace-up safari top open down to the navel (who could forget Veruska standing out in the wilds of the African savannah with a safari top, big floppy hat and a rifle behind her head?), the famous white suit that Bianca Jagger wore to her wedding to Mick and countless others. Where would modern day ready-to-wear be without him? He was considered to be single-handedly responsible for its creation with the 1966 launch of his Rive Gauche collection that reflected his distinctive design aesthetic, sense of color and artistry of cut. So powerful was he in the fashion world once upon a time, that if he changed a hemline slightly or shifted the placement of a waistline, it would send the fashion world into a frenzy and his changes would ripple around the world. The designer would go on to create a plethora of fragrances as well as a very successful YSL Beaute beauty line. It was a sad day when he retired in 2002, an end of an era really, but today in the fashion world a very bright light has been permanently dimmed. Yves you will be missed!

THE CHRONICLES OF NAOMI

Jun 2, 2008 by Stephanie R.

Well, well, well, it would seem that the harsh hammer of justice may finally be coming down on the fabulous tempered one, Naomi Campbell. The British Crown Prosecution Services (awfully long to basically be the law, no?) is filing assault charges, six in fact against Ms. Campbell due to her outburst and meltdown aboard a British Airways flight out of Heathrow Airport on April 3, 2008. If the supermodel did not understand before, surely she does now that the charges not only carry hefty fines up to £5,000 but the possibility of a six month jail term. Naomi was charged with three counts of assaulting a policeman (the spitting), one count of disorderly conduct and two counts for threatening, abusive behavior towards British Airways’ crew.

Why is it that the haves are so much more misbehaved than the have nots when they have so much more? Of course that is a rhetorical question, usually the more you have the more you expect/demand, etc. So Ms. Campbell, if you’re listening let’s be clear here, as far as I know, you do not look good in orange, there is no couture in lock-up and being nice really does count for something in prison, just ask Paris Hilton.
