And they're off! The first batch of designers were pumped and primed for their very first challenge last night.
The challenge: make an outfit out of items from a grocery store. Unfortunately, almost everyone chose a tablecloth to work with. "People, a tablecloth is fabric," Tim Gunn explained in his usual pretentious and disappointed manner.
The winner: The two looks that captured the judges' eyes were Daniel's and Kelli's. Daniel made a sweetheart-neckline strapless dress made entirely of blue Solo cups. And it worked. I know I was surprised.
Kelli's skirt made of vacuum bags dyed with coffee and bleach took the win, however. Sounds awful, but the print actually looked like store-bought marble paper. And to top it off, she made a hook and eye closure up the back with the spiral from a notebook. That's amazingly creative.
The loser: Which is worse, an outfit entirely made of garbage bags or an ugly white jacket with a train (why was there a train on a jacket??) over a less than stellar dress and galoshes? The judges voted the latter. Lucky for us, and probably the show, 42-year-old Alice Cooper, I mean, Stella, is still in the game.
I hate goodbyes. And we barely knew you, Jerry. But next week someone else will be auf'ed. That's just the way Project Runway goes.
