DESIGNER CELL PHONES, LITERALLY

Jul 12, 2008 by Stephanie S.

Christian Dior is the latest high-end designer to delve into the world of cell phones. After the Armani Samsung and the Prada phone by LG, there is now the Diorphone, manufactured with ModeLabs, and features Dior’s signature vintage cannage quilting detail embossed on the metal, your standard luxury phone style touch screen display and a camera.

So, why is this phone different? For some reason it comes with a mini phone – it can clip to your bag so you don’t need to rummage through your purse for your other phone. Well, that’s cool but…shouldn’t that be a feature on the actual phone? Just a thought.

MAN OF HONOR

Today, Giorgio Armani will be awarded a Legion of Honor in Paris. French president Nicholas Sarkozy, who has invited the designer to the presidential residence, as reported in Fashion Wire Daily, will pin the medal on the designer himself.

Armani is currently in the City of Lights promoting his haute couture line, Armani Prive, as well. Double duty, it seems, but I bet getting awarded the Legion of Honor isn’t looked at as a chore. What’s more, he’s receiving this award before he turns 74 on July 11 – yes, Armani has been around for that long. Congratulations, Armani!

MAY THE FASHIONABLE TEAM WIN

The clothes make the man is true to some extent – you can’t expect people to take you seriously if you’re not dressed well. Designers Paul Smith and Giorgio Armani care very much what their favorite soccer teams – Manchester United and Chelsea FC, respectively – look like off the field.
Paul Smith designed a two-button slim navy 100% mohair with specially designed lining with red panels and striped piping, with the team crest sewn in gold and silver thread on the top pocket to give a club blazer feel. The team is famous for stripes, so Smith designed the team’s ties with diagonal stripes.
Armani meanwhile, designed a two-button navy blue crease resistant lightweight wool gabardine suit, with flat-front, straight-legged trousers and a fitted jacket with a pronounced "Roman" shoulder line, for Chelsea FC. We’ll see if their off-the-field attire gives either team good luck.

May 10, 2008 by Stephanie S.

Giorgio Armani isn’t quite on the reality show bandwagon, but this contest could easily be the next Project Runway (if only it were a broadcasted contest!). He’s on the lookout for an advertising genius to create and execute a television ad for his Emporio Fragrances line. This year is Emporio Fragrances’ 10th anniversary. Armani is inviting entries from young talents in the UK, France, Italy, Germany and the US. Ten finalists will be chosen by Mr Armani himself, who will choose the ultimate winner.

Check out all the admissions and vote for your favorite at emporioarmaniparfums.com/contest.
