After actress and Dior spokesmodel Sharon Stone accused the Chinese of getting theirs, due to karma in a live interview, Christian Dior is officially distancing itself from her. Sharon made the remarks about the Chinese earthquake in which over 68,000 died, at the Cannes Film festival last week. In a red carpet interview for a Hong Kong news channel, the actress, who is a supporter of the Dalai Lama, said, “I’m not happy about the way the Chinese are treating the Tibetans because I don’t think anyone should be unkind to anyone else. And then this earthquake and all this stuff happened, and then I thought, ‘Is that karma? When you’re not nice that the bad things happen to you?” Really Sharon Stone? Really? Seriously…really?
Dior has decided to pull posters featuring Stone - who has been the face of its Totale Skincare line since 2005 - from all its outlets in China and its Paris office released an official statement regarding the sensitive situation. “We absolutely disagree with her hasty comments and we are also deeply sorry about them,” the statement said. “We will never support any opinion that hurts the feelings of the Chinese people.”
Stone also issued an apology, but it may take a while for this to blow over. Dang, talk about karma, eh Ms. Stone? Lesson learned: think before you speak!
