Nothing to Wear? Throw on a Scarf!

Apr 2, 2009 by Hannah E.

Now, we’re not suggesting you go sans clothing and just throw on a scarf! But you can literally put on a simple white tee and your go-to pair of jeans, slip on a pair of comfy flats, then throw on a light and colorful scarf, and you've got yourself a look that's effortlessly cool and pulled-together.

We've spotted this no-brainer of a trend on the hottest fashion mavens of Tinseltown season after season, and it's no

Whether it's at the airport or going out for a java fix, Hollywood's hottest fashionistas like Ashley Olsen, Nicole Richie, Lauren Conrad and Rachel Bilson all know one thing; scarves are quite possibly the easiest way to throw new life into casual ensembles.

http://blogs.zappos.com/servlet/JiveServlet/downloadImage/38-4995-3076/scarfs.jpg

The rising temperatures call for lightweight and airy scarves, making a great transition from your winter to spring wardrobe. Try a lovely and flowy lavender scarf by Missoni with a simple tank top or a lightweight sweater for an instant pop of color, or for an edgy take on feminine, try this surreal Alexander McQueen silk scarf. These soft color palettes look particularly pretty when worn against a grey or black top for contrast.

If your style is more laid-back bohemian, opt for a bright pop of color in an overdyed Indian-style print, like this scarf by Lucky Brand. The exotic print lends such a worldly feel and the lightweight texture complements your warm-weather wardrobe impeccably.

So, next time you're frantically searching your closet for something to wear, just throw on some basics and accessorize with a colorful scarf to get that uncontrived look that says, "I always look this good even on my off days".

This spring's hottest trend is now at Zappos! Taurie M., Photographer, knows that looking good is all about the basics! You can pair a neutral blouse, pant or jacket with just about anything. Grab the basics and quit worrying about what to wear!

It's good to see stores are realizing not everyone is blessed with fast metabolisms. Old Navy is the latest retailer to launch a plus size collection. Its fall collection has all the right trends - florals, bright colors and even some evening wear. Old Navy joins several other brands - Liz Claiborne, Dickies, Betsey Johnson - that have plus size collections (OldNavy.com/plus), which goes to show women of all sizes can look and feel fabulous.

Trends are dictated by many mediums, notably film and television. With the success of Mad Men many trends have emerged from it. There is the Don Draper effect - manicured hair, crisp white collared shirts and cigs, the resurgence of the hour glass silhouette, crystal encrusted brooches and of course, the exaggerated collar. Couture is loving this Ali Ro '50s-inspired, exaggerated collar ponte knit dress with attached hip belt. Give it the full Mad Men effect by pairing it with a crystal brooch and colored stiletto heels.

The fabulous Alexander McQueen knows the way to a woman's heart is through her favorite color and definitely through her sole. Couture is loving these Alexander McQueen square toe pumps with fabric upper, hot pink sole and sky high heel. Perfect with a black sheath and hot pink skinny belt, with an exaggerated collar knee length dress, or with stovepipe jeans paired with a ruffle-front crisp white shirt.

FILIPPA K'S SAN FRAN DEBUT

Jan 5, 2009 by Stephanie R.

Whether or not you are a fan of San Francisco, and how could you not be, there are a lot of great things about the city to be grateful for. There are the wonderful hotels, fabulous dining, great wine bars, the Castro, and now the Swedish retailer Filippa K’s first U.S. flagship store. The 2,500 square foot space reflects more than just the Swedish retailer’s fashion sense, but also the minimalist aesthetic that Sweden is known for — clean, open design, lots of windows and lots of wood. The store is equitably split between mens' wear and womens' wear, with a 20 foot natural log table running down the center acting as the gender divide. The brand Filippa K, not to be confused with its fast-fashion brethren H&M, is best known for their reasonably priced, quality clothing. The designs are focused on cuts and materials, rather than trend cycles, producing items that amortize beautifully into anyone’s current wardrobe. Think perfectly cut trousers, blazers, effortless shirtdresses, military-styled jackets, crisp white blouses, denim and everyday tees. So if you are in San Francisco, any where near Kearny Street, do drop in.

Ah, the lyrical allure of a beautiful floral dress. It is both sweet and sexy, a perfect combination. The Couture team is loving this Galliano silk empire-waist dress with vibrant roses in bloom. Pair it with a motorcycle-inspired bolero for a touch of edge, or with a loosely belted boyfriend sweater and square toe pumps.

A shirt, is a shirt, is a shirt, right? Wrong! There are the classic button downs, the logo-emblazoned versions, and then there is the classic silhouette given a little graphic edge. We are loving this C'N'C Costume National Logo Print Front Button Up. Pair it will dark rinse jeans or black dress pants, paired with a funky lace up shoe or boot. Um, to maintain that edgy cool, leave the shirt untucked.

Pink, especially pearlized pink, is that delightful hue that bridges the color gap between youthful abandon and grown up sophistication. What's even better than that? It is one of the hot color trends for Spring/Summer 2009. We are loving this Moschino Cheap and Chic Dual Handle Pearlized Pink Shoulder Satchel. Pair it now with a black or navy turtleneck sweater dress and boots, and for the spring, think sleeveless sheaths and peep toe pumps.
