JESSICA SIMPSON GETS FANCY

Well, as in her new fragrance name, that is. Jessica, along with Parlux Fragrances Inc., is launching her first scent, a floral oriental, which will launch in August and be available at Macy’s, Dillard’s, Belk and Bon-Ton in addition to additional stores in the US and Canada, as reported on July 18 by WWD. The fragrance is composed of pear, apricot nectar and red fruits in the top notes, gardenia, jasmine, toasted almonds and caramel for the middle notes, and sandalwood, vanilla creme and amber crystals for the bottom notes. If any of you are familiar with her Dessert line of body care products, you will recognize the similarity between the two (vanilla creme, caramel).

Ms. Simpson has been very busy over the last three years, and not just in her social life. In that time, she has developed her Hairdo line of hair extensions with Ken Paves, the Dessert body care line, the successful and ever-expanding shoe line, her swimwear, handbags, intimate apparel/shapewear (as reported here in the Couture blogs on July 10th) and eyewear. Ms. Simpson choosing this time to add a fragrance to her empire was the logical next step. Whether or not the market can bare yet another celebrity fragrance (Mariah Carey’s fragrance is due soon, as well), remains to be seen, but that won’t stop many from lining up to not only look like, dress like and have hair like, but now have the opportunity to snap up the fragrance to smell like Jessica, too.

SONGBIRD DESIGNERS

When you make it in music, you won’t know it by the Grammys you win or the other artists aching to collaborate with you. Nowadays, as with several other career paths, the sign you are successful is when you come out with another album…along with a fashion line.

Since fashion lines from songstresses aren’t anything new, some are focusing just on certain areas of fashion for their first run. And what’s a simple and fun item to create a fashion line around? If you’re a female, shoes, of course!

Brown Shoe Co. recently collaborated with singer Fergie and her footwear collection was unveiled at FFANY in June. Fergie described her line as a mix of “hip-hop, everyday casual and high fashion with an edge” to Footwear News on June 2. Carlos Santana, Jessica Simpson and Gwen Stefani haven’t received a bad mark yet on their footwear designs. I know I wouldn’t mind buying a few myself – this shoe by Santana is just plain hot, Simpson makes some sexy booties and open-toed oxfords, and Stefani obviously channeled her Harijuku girls and anime when designing this shoe.

There are other musicians out there with fashion lines (Justin Timberlake’s William Rast jeans, for example) but shoes seems to be the smart and safe way to break into the fashion business.

JESSICA SIMPSON SHOWS OFF HER LINGERIE

Guys will be severely disappointed by that headline, but girls won’t. Jessica Simpson is expanding her empire to include sleepwear, daywear and of course, bras and panties (which from her shopping habit in lingerie stores on her now defunct Newlywed show, this is something she definitely knows a lot about). The line will launch spring 2009 and will also include stylish shapewear, making the wearer less prone to VPL (that’s visible panty lines to those of you not in the know), again, something she knows something about. But who wouldn't with all of her red carpet appearances, videos and Tony Romo dinner dates?
