You have to hand it to French Vogue and Carine Roitfeld, the magazine is never a boring read, especially the current issue. Provocateur extraordinaire, photographer Terry Richardson, has re-imagined the Vargas girl for modern times in the form of a 2009 calendar for the issue. There is a partially clad model on the cover dressed as a cat lapping up a bowl of milk; model Alana dressed as a naughty french maid for January; an adorable hanna as a gun-toting cowgirl for February; Ms. Taryn in cherries and stripes for March; Anna J. as a lingerie clad sailor for April, Anna S. as a good scout for May; a kitty hugging Erin for June; an ‘Americana-clad’ cheerleader Ali for July; and a nurse clad Model of the Year, Jourdan Dunn for August. Of course there are several more months that were not mentioned, but you get the picture. So if you are a Francophile, collect calendars, or just enjoy interesting takes of photography, this calendar is for you.

Raise your hands and say I:, that is I will never have visible panty
lines, ever! Now to make sure that that fashion faux pas never
transpires, there are control top panty hose, spanks, corsets and now, thankfully, firm control thongs, yes I said thongs, from Maidenform.
Maidenform is having a stellar year, as this is the bra centennial
which they have been at the forefront from the beginning and now the
tummy flattening thong. The deep leg openings ensure that you have
freedom of leg movement and a pillow cushioning crotch — that, my
friends, needs no explanation. So in the words of Heidi Klum: ‘Auf
Wiedersehen’ to VPL and discomfort!

THE NEW IT COUPLE: VICTORIA AND GIORGIO

We know that Victoria Beckham and her famous soccer playing hubby, David, love to do everything together, there are the his and hers scents, the accompanying Terry Richardson shot perfume ads, the fashion layouts for W magazine, their adorable three little boys and now matching his/hers ad campaigns for Emporio Armani Underwear. It was confirmed in WWD this morning that Mrs. Becks will be the body representing the worldwide ad campaign for Emporio Armani Women's Underwear. The ads were shot by photography team Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott and will be unveiled for the S/S 2009 season.

Giorgio was quoted in WWD as saying, "who better than Victoria Beckham to launch our new global Emporio Armani underwear campaign?" Obviously, David and he agree. This doesn't come as a surprise to Couture though, as we appreciate her fashion sense, fearlessness in wearing avant-garde designers, her fit figure and her icon status. Who else could have pulled off a tight fitted, belted sleeveless sheath and thigh-high black heel less boots?

FOR THE LOVE OF EVA

She sizzles on screen, makes a smoldering photogenic splash in the current issue of Interview magazine and come this fall, the public will get a double dose of her beauty with her new Calvin Klein ads and commercials. Ms. Mendes, who modeled for Calvin along with Kate Moss and Mark Wahlberg in the ‘80s, will reprise her role as a model for the brand’s new Seductive Comfort Calvin Klein intimate collection, as well as be the face/body of Calvin’s Secret Obsession scent.

This pairing is a natural match, as it has been reported often that Ms. Mendes favors CK intimates for red carpet appearances, and told WWD on July 22, “I wear Calvin Klein G-strings all of the time on the red carpet and while shooting for a film because you don’t see the panty lines.” The scent’s television ads, banned from airing in the United States for being to racy, were shot by the famed photographer Steven Miesel (yes, the genius behind the July issue of Vogue Italia), and are a departure from the old ads where only very thin models were used. This departure seems less about embracing larger body types, but more about being womanly and accepting who you are. The print ads, showing Eva in states of repose — the first shows her laying upside down on the floor in purple underwear, tossing aubergine satin pillows in the air — will break in American fashion magazines in September and internationally in October. The scent, more floral than the original — notes of plum, jasmine, tuberose, woods, amber, vanilla, and sandalwood — will also premier in September. If we could forecast Eva’s horoscope for the fall, the number nine would be her lucky number, and the September road would be paved with millions (as in her contract fee of five million).
