Picasso may have been onto something – geometric shapes create more interesting silhouettes for notice-me paintings, in his case, and fashion in our case. Geometrical jewelry is gaining popularity for their attention-grabbing shapes. This cuff by Marc by Marc Jacobs is no exception.

With a jumper, the key is to wear it with the right shirt underneath. V-necks don’t work, but scoopnecked long-sleeved shirts or collared short-sleeved shirts, like this Moschino one, work great.

The What: Moschino's Ornate Origami Jumper

The How To: 1. Moschino collared shirt 2. Derek Lam sunglasses 3. D&G bangles 4. Marc by Marc Jacobs Turnlock Pouchette 5. Yellow Sigerson Morrison flats

The When: For work or play.

The Why: Jumpers can look mature!

MARC JACOBS DOESN'T CARE WHAT ANYONE THINKS

Sobriety acts out in many ways. It can be overt confidence, which seemingly is the case for designer Marc Jacobs. He was the brilliant but schlumpy bespectacled designer that stood at the end of the runway in his grey sweater, baggy pants and kicks, looking out of place and oh so nervous.

Then, pa-dow! He reappears out of sobriety as this buffed god-like creature akin to a Mount Olympia statue. Gone were the spectacles, gone was the greasy too-long hair, sweaters, and, huh, buffed arms were now rippling through his short-sleeved tees and fitted slacks. The hair is now closely cropped and blue, yes really, blue - midnight to be exact. Confidence seemed to know no bounds. There were nude cover shots, hotter than hot fashion shows, pictures of him everywhere. A film about his genius and maniac behavior, a coveted limited edition book (check out our earlier Well Read Fashionista on his book here), and cheeky tattoos. But when is confidence too much? Could we say he should have stopped at the blue hair? Was it the nude covers, which, even if I do say so myself, made me stop for not one but three looks, or the Spongebob or Red M & M tattoos that are the overkill? When is too much too much? We here a Couture are torn, so write us back and tell us what is the definitive line of just right and too much.

THE DAILY TREND - AVIATORS

Goose, Maverick and Ice Man started the trend. Nigo and Pharell made them cool. Kate (as in Moss) gave it status. Both guys and girls can pull off these shades. Marc Jacobs, Kenneth Cole, and Ed Hardy are a few designers who have modernized aviators. Rock them nearly everywhere – outside when it’s sunny, at night so you can, so you can watch me weave (name that lyric!), even in the mall so you look that much more rock star than the teeny-boppers.

HOW I MET THAT FABULOUS MARC JACOBS BAG

“You are what you are, a super star” – that lyric from Lupe Fiasco is fitting for last night’s episode of How I Met Your Mother. But that star was not Britney, it was the Marc by Marc Jacob's marigold turnlock messenger bag she carried in the final scene. Spears’ wardrobe stylist paired it with a light green V-neck dress with yellow ruffle trim, and the pop tart looked….well, good. It was fabulous seeing a bag that couture has been coveting on the show, but even more so, it was good to see Britney looking pretty normal…and pretty!

MARC JACOBS SPOOFED

Two fellows from the ad agency Hart and Larsson have taken Marc Jacobs ’08 ad campaign, mixed in a little Royal Tenenbaums and created a spoof that made us wonder, “are we being punked?”

It is pretty funny though. Check it out here.

EXTRA BAGGAGE

I’m well aware Marc Jacobs is a genius, and he’s had arguably one of his best years yet. But something that came down his runways in New York puzzled me – mini bags attached to larger bags. I know Jacobs is all about shocking the public with fashion that’s new and different (reverse high heels, for example), but wouldn’t buying a larger, chic tote make more sense than digging through the larger bag, then the smaller bag for your cell phone? Just a thought.

A LITTLE POSH

Again, I am admitting one of my guilty pleasures, I love those (overrated, yes I know) Marc Jacobs ads featuring the diminutive Victoria 'Posh' Beckham. I'm not sure if its the blank canvas approach to the shots, her standing doll like with a vacant stare, the ridiculousness of the big plastic bag, the stepping out of a box, or the haloed angel decked out in black, but they always manage to captivate me. After all, here is a woman that is always tanned just so, never loses that dour expression, dresses sometimes to the extreme, but always carries it off. She is more fascinating than most, because she gets what the public thinks of her and can poke fun of the poking fun. Who else could pose nearly naked in all manner of repose with her hot mate, throw out a baseball in wedge high heel sneakers, or run behind their 2 year old in platforms?

DONALD J. PLINER DELIVERS

A big issue when buying women’s shoes is comfort. Women who love heels but cry when the day’s over know what I’m talking about – blisters, cuts and aching feet are no fun.

Thankfully, lots of designers are thinking more and more about comfort when designers. Not Marc Jacobs (I don’t even want to try to walk in those reverse high heels), but, for example, Donald J. Pliner. At the WSA in Las Vegas this past weekend, I got to preview his collection for spring 2008. He used flexible materials such as mesh elastic along with regularly used materials, like leather or patent leather, to help make shoes more comfortable to walk in and prevent cuts. He also employed a great technology in some of his shoes – liquid resistance! I’ll have to pick up a metallic pair in a liquid-resistant fabric for going to the clubs. Great idea! Look for these shoes to be sold on Zappos.com this spring.
