AUSTRALIA NEEDS NEW SHOES

Baz Luhrmann’s new film Australia, starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman, needed some specially made shoes for its characters. Set in 1930s and 1940s Australia, the movie’s wardrobe officials placed orders with Australian high-end bootmaker R.M. Williams for two pairs of custom made crocodile skin boots, with rock-hard horn back leather. Those don’t sound very comfortable – these boots are for serious hard work, which I guess is what Jackman’s character will be doing. The film is also collaborating with Salvatore Ferragamo, who designed shoes for Kidman’s character – an evening sandal, riding boot and a few wedge styles. Selected shoes of Kidman’s will be sold in Ferragamo stores worldwide.

If you can’t wait to see the shoes, wait just a few months – Australia will be in theaters this November.

The movie theater is a great place to escape from the heat this summer. Keep your cool without being too cold in the A/C happy theater with a not-too-casual polo T-shirt, jeans and Hollywood-worthy sneakers.

The What: Moschino Italian accented sneakers

The How To: 1.) Moschino polo T-shirt 2.) Diesel Zanity boot cut jean 3.) Dolce & Gabbana watch

The When: When you're going to the movies, or just hanging out with the guys.

The Why: Even movie stars would be jealous of this clean, polished-yet-casual look.

CHÉRIE AMOR

The lovely, talented Francophile Sofia Coppola will be exercising more of her director chops this fall when she shoots the new Dior Beauté Miss Dior Chérie fragrance, as reported in Fashion Week Daily on May 30. The award-winning Ms. Coppola is hardly new to directing — The Virgin Suicides, Marie Antoinette, Lost in Translation, to name a few, have made her the darling of the industry, so shooting a commercial for Dior should be a breeze. It has been leaked that she will shoot at Versailles in the style of Marie Antoinette. Does that mean pale faces, powdered wigs and lots of blood-red rouge stained lips?

SINGLE AND LOVING IT!

An audible hush went round the world today, followed closely by a loud hooray. Why you ask? George Clooney has rejoined the ranks of single men again, so cocktail waitresses rejoice. Now is anyone surprised by this news, really? Really? The reports are that George tracked her down after meeting her three years ago at his birthday party, that he pursued her (work that out Ms. Sarah), but what did these two really have in common? Now, the arm candy prior to her was a brainy law student in Paris that he persuaded to come here (um, who wouldn’t for George) and that lasted four years. Exactly, she was brainy, beautiful and able to hold a conversation, sorry Sarah. I don’t normally cheer a celebrity anything, especially a breakup, but in this case I make an exception, 1. because it is George Clooney and 2. I have lots of friends who are cocktail waitresses/bartenders and they deserve a shot, no?

DIAMONDS ARE NOT JUST A GIRL'S A BEST FRIEND

Well, in the sense of a scent anyway. Mr. Josh Hartnett was selected by Giorgio Armani, as reported in May 14 Women’s Wear Daily, to be the new face of his upcoming men’s summer scent, Diamonds. The scent as you already fashionably know exists for women, with Beyonce Knowles (Mrs. Jay-Z) as the brand’s face.

These days it seems fashion houses are recognizing that successful launches and sales are driven these days by film and music, so Ms. Knowles makes scent sense, since she is successful in both genres but, Mr. Hartnett? He is known for previous works like Black Dahlia, Pearl Harbor, and Hollywood Homicide – well, known in a bad way for those last two box office bombs but it has been awhile since we have seen him in anything other than gossip glossies and Page Six news. Perhaps this really does prove, one need only have a handsome, scruffy face and an occasional movie. Well that and a buff bod, lets not forget about David Beckham. As if!

SATC MOVIE COMING TO A THEATRE NEAR YOU SOON

Ah, just seeing the initials SATC (Sex and the City), makes me yearn for a fruity martini and pine for the asphalt jungle that was the backdrop for the former HBO show and the upcoming movie. I admit, as much as I have tried, I have not been able to resist all of the pictures and trailers circulating on the internet that quietly beckon my attention. How can one not be anxious and thrilled that on May 30th, the girls — Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, Kim Cattrall and Kristin Davis — will be back in fabulous fashionable force? Who doesn’t want to know what hijinks Samantha is up to or if Smith J. is back? Does Brady have a sibling yet? Is little Elizabeth Taylor et all still part of the story line? Will Big finally marry Carrie and what will the other starring characters — the wardrobe — be like? Considering the cult following the show had, and by all the blog accounts, the movie will be an instant hit. We will have to wait to see, but in the meantime, cosmopolitan anyone?
