HIP HOP'S CROWN JEWELS

Have you ever wanted to bling out like Diddy or 50 (Fiddy)? Nostalgic for a little Run DMC heavy rope chains to jangle a tune to? Has one of your life’s desires been to own a piece of the hip hop dynasty? If so, get your paddle out and be prepared to bid with the best of them for pieces of the iconic jewels up for auction on October 1, by Phillips de Pury & Company for hip hop’s finest. Imagine a little Kanye around your neck, or a little 50 Cent ice lighting your wrist. Perhaps your tastes harks back to a more refined time and you paddle up for a little Tupac on your ear or Biggie on your knuckles. But like the man himself, if major bling and ice are your thing, do bid on Diddy’s princess and baguette cut diamond and platinum bracelet or be N.E.R.D. cool and snatch up Pharrell’s Gucci link necklace dipped in multicolored pave diamonds. Funky fresh!

And in case securing your favorite rapper’s jewels are not enough incentive to bid, the auction’s proceeds will benefit the following three foundations: Russell Simmon’s Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation, which provides disadvantaged youth with access to art; the Hip Hop Summit Action Network, which preserves the cultural relevance of Hip-Hop music to serve as a catalyst for education advocacy; and the Diamond Empowerment Fund, established to raise money for the development and empowerment of the people and communities in Africa where diamonds are a natural resource.

IT'S RAINING GUCCI FOR RIHANNA AND UNICEF

The avid music loving Frida Giannini, Creative Director for Gucci, has tapped Lil' Ms. Sunshine, Rihanna, to be the spokesmodel for their fall advertisement highlighting its collaboration with UNICEF (United Nation’s Children’s Fund).

The ads were shot by the in-demand husband and wife team, Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, in Paris, with the ads slated to premiere in December issues of fashion magazines. “So when we decided to dedicate a full ad campaign, more than just creating products, to really come out and show our commitment to UNICEF, we wanted someone with a strong personality,” Giannini said post-photoshoot, during her interview with WWD.

And of course we all know well, unless you have been living somewhere in the universe where fashion does not matter, that Rihanna loves rocking Gucci. She wore the emerald green criss-cross neckline gown with plunging back belted to the “A Night to Benefit Raising Malawi and UNICEF” benefit, a patterned belted mini at the Kids' Choice Awards and has been photographed all over the world carrying countless Gucci handbags styles.

So it would seem that this match, cemented after Rihanna’s rendition of Umbrella at the Malawi fund-raiser, is a match made in heaven, and a very worthy cause will benefit from the union.

DANCE LIKE THERE'S NO TOMORROW

I am not hating on Paula Abdul, really I’m not. She has a successful gig as the emotional judge on American Idol, looks fairly hot for having weathered drugs, yo-yo dieting, tipping a few bottles and having a husband or two. But did she really need to make more 'bubblegum pop' music and, better still, make an accompanying video? Please tell me I am not the only one to have seen the 'Dance Like There's No Tomorrow' video? There are three different vignettes going on: in one, she is doing her 'I'm still in the '80s', over-choreographed Janet Jackson dance routine with male dancers all around her moving in Fosse-style syncopated movements; in another she is dressed in a lace-covered corset mini dress, gripping a microphone and singing with Randy (yes, from Idol) accompanying her on guitar; and of course one of her singing by herself in black leggings and a red top that has an extended train that swirls around her, as she steps back and forth over the mic mimicking singer Ciara's moves from the Promise video. But, at least the idols that work together stay together – the closing shot is of all the idols: Ryan, Randy, Paula and Simon. Lets have a collective sigh here.

My question to you is why did the former L.A. Laker girl choose now? And more importantly, what would Simon say to her if she were a contestant on American Idol? Here is the link, check it out and then please explain it to me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_FBDaK_Gig&watch_response
