THE RANGER WEARS PRADA

Or, at least, he must, because Sean Avery, the 28-year-old hockey player for the New York Rangers and a major playa with the ladies, will be interning at Vogue Magazine this summer. This struck me as odd. First, he’s 28. Huh? Second, he’s a hockey player. Really? Third, he’s interning for a high-end fashion magazine. I’m lost.

But not others, including my boss. “He has a great sense of fashion, and with all the ladies he dates now, you know the Vogue offices are the perfect place to pick up a few more.” Obviously this is our personal opinion based on his rumored womanizing reputation in New York City. But Avery didn’t have to give an arm, an eye, starve himself and smoke outside sans stockings during a New York City winter to get his foot in the door at Vogue. Oh, no. It’s rumored he was hand-picked by Anna Wintour. But the question is, was it his fashion knowledge or hockey-playing good looks that caught her eye? We’re sure his eye for fashion and penchant for black patent leather Yves Saint Laurent high-tops wasn’t the only thing that got him picked.

TRUE LIFE: I WISH I COULD GO TO FASHION WEEK

Ah, Fashion Week… it’s a grand desire of mine to go. But I wouldn’t necessarily want to go in the shoes of the three who did go to Fashion Week in MTV’s True Life: I’m Going To Fashion Week, which aired Saturday, April 5. Stefanie is the assistant to Kelly Cutrone, founder of People’s Revolution, a PR company known to launch fashion labels (and is also, coincidentally, Whitney on MTV’s The Hills new place of employment. Hmmm.). Stefanie is, in short, Kelly’s personal slave; she makes her breakfast, works long hours to make sure everything’s done, and is especially busy during Fashion Week. Yes, Stefanie got to work Fashion Week, but personally, I’d want to keep my social life.

Jaime was a design student at the Academy of Art University and was chosen to show in Bryant Park. Pretty sweet, actually, and she got a ton of exposure – even if her stylist wanted her men’s collection to exude an air of Marvin the Martian. No, really. Lastly there’s Cassie, designer for New York Couture, who wasn’t chosen to show in Bryant Park, but had her own rad fashion show at Club Rebel. As a result, several boutiques picked up her line.

Ideally, I’d like to sit in the audience and just admire the fashion and not do lots of work like these three. But I guess Fashion Week really isn’t all fun and games, just ask those who work behind the scenes.

SATC MOVIE COMING TO A THEATRE NEAR YOU SOON

Ah, just seeing the initials SATC (Sex and the City), makes me yearn for a fruity martini and pine for the asphalt jungle that was the backdrop for the former HBO show and the upcoming movie. I admit, as much as I have tried, I have not been able to resist all of the pictures and trailers circulating on the internet that quietly beckon my attention. How can one not be anxious and thrilled that on May 30th, the girls — Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, Kim Cattrall and Kristin Davis — will be back in fabulous fashionable force? Who doesn’t want to know what hijinks Samantha is up to or if Smith J. is back? Does Brady have a sibling yet? Is little Elizabeth Taylor et all still part of the story line? Will Big finally marry Carrie and what will the other starring characters — the wardrobe — be like? Considering the cult following the show had, and by all the blog accounts, the movie will be an instant hit. We will have to wait to see, but in the meantime, cosmopolitan anyone?
