WEEKLY BABBLE - PROJECT RUNWAY

The final three were decided. So, if you haven't seen it yet, please do not read any further.

The challenge: Design a wedding dress and bridesmaid dress that gives a feel of the designers' collection that they designed to show at Bryant Park.

The Winner:
SS: I am excited to see that, for the first time in Runway's history, all three designers that will be showing at Bryant Park, are women. I'll admit I did like Jerell's wedding dress, and bridesmaid dress much better than Korto's (what WAS that bridesmaid's mess, I mean dress?). Korto proved through out the season she can hold her own, and I'm excited to see her collection at Fashion Week.

JF: Congratulations ladies! Leanne, Korto and (yes, even) Kenley, well done! I expected nothing less from Leanne and Korto, but Kenley really surprised me. She CAN do something other than '50s style. Can't wait to see their collections at Fashion Week.

The Loser:
SS: I am sad to see Jerell go. He definitely has talent. Overly bedazzled talent. He made it this far, so I'm sure we will be seeing collections from him in the future.

JF: Sorry to see you go. I love your style, overly bejeweled and all. You made it this far, keep going, your dream is just around the corner!

Next week is the big show, everyone. It's down to the wire. Korto, Kenley and Leanne - who do you think will be this season's winner of Project Runway?

In case you missed last night's episode, you may not want to keep reading. There was definitely a twist on last night's episode.

The challenge: The designers took a photo of something that inspired them at the New York Botanical Gardens, then made a gown that reflected that inspirational item. Georgina Chapman, co-founder and designer of Marchesa and Mrs. Harvey Weinstein, was a guest judge.

The winner:
SS: Jerell really is on a roll. I don't know if that's such a compliment since everyone's dress (including his) wasn't great. But, alas, his gown was the winner last night even though I wondered why he went with such dark colored fabrics, which were much different than his photo of bright pink and purple flowers. Still, I love the jewels along the bustline but, was it just me, or did the bustline look a tad low?

JF: Well, well, Jerell, it wasn't hard to pick a winner out of this last ditch effort to impress the judges. By far, your piece was the most interesting of these last four pieces, but was it the best we've seen? No. Everybody seemed to take a nose dive on the most important challenge ever, the last one. Runner up, Leanne. That thing looked like it belonged to an '80's bridesmaid. Judges called it a 'softer side' of Leanne, I say it was b-o-r-i-n-g, but it kept her safe.

The loser:
SS: Well, I guess technically there wasn't one, since no one got cut last night. Kenley's looked way too 'The Little Mermaid' um, with a blossom at the bottom. Leanne's and Korto's tied for '80s bridesmaid dresses, in my opinion. Whoever brings their game next week will be going to Bryant Park although, I have a hunch, producers want Kenley in there. So much drama surrounds her, and now the other designers want nothing to do with her.

JF: What a surprise, no loser, yet. Kenley gets a reprieve that she didn't deserve. Had Korto not bombed too, Kenley would have been 'Auf wiedersehen!' What in the world did Kenley make? It looked like a purple mermaid with fish scales around her ankles. A true travesty. I guess that haughty attitude came back to bite her with remaining designers shutting her down and out. You can make your own way in this world but you can't step on everyone and expect to remain untouched. Korto, too much pressure? What happened girl? Hopefully you bring your game for the final, final challenge and make it Bryant Park.

With one designer being auf'd right before Fashion Week (so harsh!) who do you think will get the axe next, and who will show in Bryant Park?

How ironic that the winning design was worn by the designer who was sent home? Here's the rundown from last night.

The challenge: Design an outfit for another contestant. The catch - the outfit has to fit a musical genre, ie. rock 'n roll, punk or hip hop.

The winner:
SS: Korto, those pants are pretty hot. When paired with all the accessories, the outfit was within the genre but outside of the box. Way to go, chick.

JF: Korto, way to go! I'm not surprised because Korto has mad skills. To go outside of what she usually does and win it, really shows her talent.

The loser:
SS: Rock 'n roll shouldn't be boring. And the look Jerell was wearing, designed by Suede, was a bit boring. Don't get me wrong, the pants looked hot and the vest had a nice design, too. But the shirt made it look a bit too Godspell, with the sternum exposed. The sternum exposure was the only risk taken in the whole outfit. A bit too safe, and let's face it, rock 'n roll is never safe!

JF: Suede, you played it a little too safe. However, I know why Kenley gets to stay, drama. She had no clue what hip hop was. And to have one of the kings of hip hop (LL Cool J) as the guest judge, should have gotten Kenley the boot for that outfit. But like I said she's drama, and drama equals ratings. Fine. It's not like Suede was that awesome anyway, and as her outfit showed, she really missed the mark by miles. Bye-bye Suede, bye-bye.

It's really getting down to the wire. The next challenge determines the final three who will go to New York Fashion Week. Come on, you can tell us, who won't be going there?

There was another episode of Runway last night, which means we’ve got another rundown of it for you here. We also are priviledged to have another opinion of the episode. John Fanok, Brand Designer here at Zappos, gives us his thoughts.

The challenge: Get inspired by New York City at night, and design something that reflects that. Flashback to Season 2 episode: get inspired by New York City during the day challenge…

The winner:
SS: Kenley was channeling Mad Men/early ‘60s style (clearly, her personal style) among other trends. Her winning design, a printed bubble-shaped mini dress with long sleeves, impressed the judges with its shape and abstract print. Prints are a major trend for fall 2008, congratulations Kenley.

JF: What's with that balloon on her hip? Looks like a goiter, ew! I don't agree with the winning decision but what do I know? I thought Leanne made a great comeback and learned to edit, edit ,edit. Leanne captured the essence of the NYC photograph that inspired the design.

The loser:
SS: You know, Emily’s dress really wasn’t that bad – basic black asymmetrical dress with a T-shaped orange and yellow ruffle up the front – but it was boring in comparison with the others. Other designers like Stella’s metallic vest and skinny gray jeans and Korto’s all black pantsuit were equally boring due to their monochromatic color scheme and all too familiar fashion shapes, but were better executed. Every episode someone must be auf’d, so the judges had to say Auf Wiedersehen to Emily. Come on, when Nina gives you the condescending smile, you know you’re a goner.

JF: Loser and rightfully so. She may have captured the image in the photo, but it was poorly executed. Keith skated by and he had better watch out. His piece was innovative but the model looked like she was wearing a paper bag, she had no curves.

Dear readers do you have any predictions for who will last ‘til the end? I think Suede will go far, but I wish he would stop talking about himself in third person. John thinks Kelli and Blayne will make the top three, too. We welcome your opinions, so write back and let us know.
