When you're living life in the White House, people are bound to scrutinize First Family members for choices they make. Luckily, at least with fashion, Michelle Obama has been making great choices so far.
She worked hard campaigning stylishly up until Inauguration with sheaths from Thakoon, Ikram and Narciso Rodriguez, and she saved one of her best dresses for last: her off-the-shoulder gown by Jason Wu, which she wore for her first dance with the new president. But women of America can also look up to her because she balances designer dresses with the occasional accessory from J. Crew or even H&M. The First Lady, wearing H&M? It's not preposterous. Michelle is for the people, and for the people, she keeps her fashion real.
Mrs. Obama has a great mix of high-low priced pieces and great taste that clearly inspires others. Need proof? The custom-made, olive green, cashmere-lined gloves J. Crew gave her to wear on Inauguration day were such a hit with women across the country that J. Crew is now producing exact replicas to sell in stores. With all that clamoring for Michelle's J. Crew gloves, did any women pay attention to our first black president's swearing in? Hmmm...
Regardless, history is being made - politically and fashionably.
