Go for the Glow!

Apr 24, 2009 by Hannah E.

Temperatures are heating up, the days are longer, but that drab and dreary complexion you’ve been hiding all winter isn’t exactly the hottest thing around! Nothing says summer like a goddess-like glow, and the safest and easiest way to get this is through bronzers.

There are tons of different formulas and shades of bronzers on the market today and the selection can be mind-boggling. However, there are some great products out there that are fool-proof and have buildable, sheer shades to complement most skin tones.

Take the Illuminating Finishing Powder by Stila for example, the baked, hand-milled formula goes on sheer and adds a totally ethereal glow along with that “just-hit-the-beach” color. Try it in the Bronze shade for a flattering and wearable way to get bronzed!

Another great option is purminerals’ Universal Marble Mineral Powder & Bronzer. These mosaic-like discs blend several shades of bronze to create a flawless glow. This easy-to-use formula is also packed with vitamins and minerals to condition the skin as well as evening out the skin tone. Just sweep it on and go!

For a quick dose of shimmer and bronze anywhere, we also love Lola’s Shimmer Powder Brush in Bronze. Its purse-friendly applicator has a handy built-in brush so you can sweep it on your face and shoulders when you’re in a hurry.

A great option if you’re planning on laying out poolside would be Stila’s Sun SPF 15 Bronzer. It adds lightly shimmering color while the SPF shields your skin from the harmful rays…which as we all know by now is a huge no-no! You can even dust this product on your décolleté and shoulders for glamorous, healthy-looking glow, like you just vacationed in St. Tropez or South Beach.

http://blogs.zappos.com/servlet/JiveServlet/downloadImage/38-5180-3105/bronzers.jpg

No matter what shade you choose for your complexion, the key is proper application using the right tools. It all starts with the right brush. Use a blush or bronzer blush like Stila’s #17 retractable bronzing brush. Keep it in your purse or makeup bag for on-the-go glow. For all-over color, the Perfect Powder Blush by Paul Dorf is also a great option. Its large, fluffy bristles disperse sheer color and make blending a breeze.

The best places to apply bronzers are where the sun naturally hits your face first, so start lightly on your forehead, then dust along the cheekbones and work up into the temples in a “heart” formation. Adding a touch of glow to those areas really bring out the cheekbones…now who wouldn’t want that?
Adding a darker shade of bronzer on the hollow parts of your cheeks (just below the fleshy part usually referred to as the “apples” of your cheeks), is also a great way to coax out those cheekbones to maximum exposure!

So if you're craving a bronze-goddess glow that rivals that of Jennifer Lopez, skip the harmful sun and reach for the safe and easy alternative: the season's must-have bronzers!

Nothing to Wear? Throw on a Scarf!

Apr 2, 2009 by Hannah E.

Now, we’re not suggesting you go sans clothing and just throw on a scarf! But you can literally put on a simple white tee and your go-to pair of jeans, slip on a pair of comfy flats, then throw on a light and colorful scarf, and you've got yourself a look that's effortlessly cool and pulled-together.

We've spotted this no-brainer of a trend on the hottest fashion mavens of Tinseltown season after season, and it's no

Whether it's at the airport or going out for a java fix, Hollywood's hottest fashionistas like Ashley Olsen, Nicole Richie, Lauren Conrad and Rachel Bilson all know one thing; scarves are quite possibly the easiest way to throw new life into casual ensembles.

http://blogs.zappos.com/servlet/JiveServlet/downloadImage/38-4995-3076/scarfs.jpg

The rising temperatures call for lightweight and airy scarves, making a great transition from your winter to spring wardrobe. Try a lovely and flowy lavender scarf by Missoni with a simple tank top or a lightweight sweater for an instant pop of color, or for an edgy take on feminine, try this surreal Alexander McQueen silk scarf. These soft color palettes look particularly pretty when worn against a grey or black top for contrast.

If your style is more laid-back bohemian, opt for a bright pop of color in an overdyed Indian-style print, like this scarf by Lucky Brand. The exotic print lends such a worldly feel and the lightweight texture complements your warm-weather wardrobe impeccably.

So, next time you're frantically searching your closet for something to wear, just throw on some basics and accessorize with a colorful scarf to get that uncontrived look that says, "I always look this good even on my off days".

"Scent-sational": Fine Designer Fragrances

Mar 26, 2009 by Hannah E.

Scent is intensely personal. It has been said that there is no sense more strongly tied to memory than scent. Whether it's your mother's signature perfume, or your father's favorite aftershave, fragrances can be as personal and memorable as a warm embrace or a special milestone in your life. For instance, when you smell a fragrance that reminds you of someone you love, you instantly recall fond memories of that person, or when you smell certain flowers that grew in your grandmother's garden, it brings back intense memories of a certain time and place. Scent has a truly magical way of creating and solidifying memories in our minds. Does your signature fragrance create memorable experiences and the perfect first impressions?

The fragrances we choose to envelop ourselves in say a lot about us. Whether you're a romantic at heart who prefers warm and floral scents, or a bubbly and lively personality who loves fresh, effervescent fragrances, one's fragrance choices are intimately tied to the wearer's moods and personality.

http://blogs.zappos.com/servlet/JiveServlet/downloadImage/38-4923-3065/perfume-blog.jpg

Fragrance is also a great way to incorporate your favorite designers into your everyday ensemble. Whether you live for the fashion-forward designs of Costume National, the sublimely graceful style of Vera Wang, the timeless glamour of Carolina Herrera, or the classic and contemporary Prada, your signature scent speaks volumes about your overall sense of style. Another great thing about fragrance is, even if today's economy doesn't allow you to afford the luxuries of a head-to-toe couture wardrobe, you can still indulge in your favorite designer's signature scents.

What better way to create a lasting impression than to have someone say, "You smell great! What fragrance are you wearing?", and with a knowing grin, you can casually say, "It's Prada."

Valentine's Day Dresses-Pink?

Feb 13, 2009 by Stephanie Sims

Lace, red and pink are all too predictable for Valentine's Day. Dresses always evoke romance - smolder in a black halter dress with ruffles along the hem (with tights if it's cold out) with black accessories and sparkly jewelry. If you must wear pink on Valentine's Day, or just want to stand out a bit, wear this outfit with Giuseppe Zanotti open-toed snake-embossed pink pumps.

How to wear it: Jean Paul Gaultier short tulle dress, Giuseppe Zanotti snake-embossed pumps, CC Skye glitter hoop earrings, King Baby Studio Black Onyx Ring, Furla black mimosa clutch

She's the First Lady...Of Fashion

Feb 12, 2009 by Stephanie Sims

When you're living life in the White House, people are bound to scrutinize First Family members for choices they make. Luckily, at least with fashion, Michelle Obama has been making great choices so far.

She worked hard campaigning stylishly up until Inauguration with sheaths from Thakoon, Ikram and Narciso Rodriguez, and she saved one of her best dresses for last: her off-the-shoulder gown by Jason Wu, which she wore for her first dance with the new president. But women of America can also look up to her because she balances designer dresses with the occasional accessory from J. Crew or even H&M. The First Lady, wearing H&M? It's not preposterous. Michelle is for the people, and for the people, she keeps her fashion real.

Mrs. Obama has a great mix of high-low priced pieces and great taste that clearly inspires others. Need proof? The custom-made, olive green, cashmere-lined gloves J. Crew gave her to wear on Inauguration day were such a hit with women across the country that J. Crew is now producing exact replicas to sell in stores. With all that clamoring for Michelle's J. Crew gloves, did any women pay attention to our first black president's swearing in? Hmmm...

Regardless, history is being made - politically and fashionably.
