Bows are back, but take note: to look like a sophisticated lady and not a schoolgirl, pair this Be&D bow clutch with a little black dress or chic sheath.

Modeling Really Does Take Talent

I guess America's Next Top Model challenges aren't all that unrealistic; models sometimes are required to wear unnatural shoes on a slippery runway and avoid the inevitable - falling down. But as this video showed us, it does happen to the best of the models out there.

I guess modeling takes more than beauty - great balance!

Tailored chic and put-together polish come together with structured skirts like this Just Cavalli pencil skirt. Worn with booties and paired with a basic collared shirt or sweater, the structured look is simply divine.

Fashion Week Update: Jean Paul Gaultier in Paris

Feb 9, 2009 by Stephanie Sims

At Paris' men's fashion week, Jean Paul Gaultier was one of the designers to watch. Always a fan of tougher, edgier looks, his Paris show had British traditional mixed with punk and mod pieces; the collection was a mix of plaids, pinstripes with punk references.

Classic outerwear came out on the runways with hints of bondage; a chesterfield coat with leather lapels and a duffel with chains in lieu of toggles were showcased. Trench coats had harnesses and suit trousers were lashed with bondage straps. But, here's a tip for guys: when wearing these pieces day to day, you might want to remove anything that says "bondage" before going to work. Just a thought.

Missoni and the Valentino Fashion Group announced Friday that they will renew the partnership both companies initially established in 2005. The VFG S.p.A., home to brands like Hugo Boss and Proenza Schouler, agreed to join into the partnership with Missoni to help expand Missoni's secondary line, M Missoni.

M Missoni, a women's line, first launched in 1999. "This long term renewal expresses the trust that Missoni has in the Valentino Fashion Group," said VFG's CEO, Stefano Sassi, to Fashion Week Daily. "It will allow us to put more emphasis and attention on the development of the retail network and to continue with the ambitious goal of further growth of the brand at a global level."

...because Barney's New York might be sold.

Never thought we'd see this day. The famous luxury chain that is Barney's may be in danger of being sold. But in today's economy, we guess this shouldn't really come as a surprise. Bloomberg News reported rumors that the owner of Barney's New York, Dubai's Istithmar World PJSC, may sell the U.S. luxury chain. It's been less than two years after the company bought it.

The fund has naturally been struggling with losses since the luxury market is in a slowdown. According to Saudi bank Samba Financial Group and Bloomberg, Istithmar is one of seven Gulf funds that lost a cumulative 15 percent last year. As of last year, it managed more than $10 billion. The asking price for Barney's New York is $942.3 million, which is exactly what Istithmar paid for the company when they first bought it. Um, guys? There's a recession going on.

Despite their optimism, we still can't believe Barney's is actually for sale. What's next? Will Harrod's scale back?

Keep It Cool

Valentine's Day is coming up, and this usually means guys go through a series of emotions when their girlfriend is expecting something big, extravagant, fancy and romantic. First there's panic, then there's doubt about whether they can come up with something great, then frustration, and finally, they settle on a dinner in a nice restaurant that's dimly lit. Good choice, guys - especially if you dress for the
occasion with a nice blazer and nice slacks. Then your girlfriend really won't be able to resist you.

How To Wear It: 1.) Jean Paul Gaultier grey button-down 2.) Hugo Boss charcoal pants 3.) Moschino navy blazer 4.) Cesare Paciotti shoes

One Jacket, Three Ways: Date Night

This clingy Moschino dress is sexy on its own, but the GF Ferre cropped jacket worn over it draws eyes to the hips and the hip-hugging straight skirt of the dress (and when you take it off inside the restaurant, it will reveal your cleavage). Wear leather and studded hoop earrings and hot pink strappy shoes and carry a classic black clutch for edgy sex appeal.

Hot Pink With a Twist

If you read the headline and thought we were talking about the director of Grindhouse and Sin City, you are mistaken. The designer Robert Rodriguez would never produce anything gory or gritty -- his pieces have feminine and sexy touches, yet are sophisticated and never garish.

It's been said Rodriguez was greatly influenced by Christian Dior. If that's the case, he certainly learned lessons about couture clothing from one of the greatest. We here at Couture are in love with his hot pink twist neck, his fun yet sexy ruffled blouse and the one-sleeved pintuck top. All three are fresh and fabulous, just like Rodriguez himself.

Barbie Takes Over Fashion Week!

Feb 5, 2009 by Stephanie Sims

While the rest of the world is feeling the recession, even fashion designers (there will be a lot of scaling back this year, reportedly), Mattel's Barbie will be taking Fashion Week 2009 by storm. It is the doll's golden anniversary, after all, as well as the American International Toy Fair. Great timing. And life in plastic? It's fantastic.

Mattel has formed partnerships with IMG, Vera Wang, Bloomingdale's and Fred Segal, among several others, to prep fashionistas all year for New York's fall fashion week. To kick things off, the 5th Avenue Sephora will have two days for customers to get Barbie makeovers from Stila make-up artists February 6th and February 7th from noon to 6 pm.

Stila is also releasing some limited-edition Barbie Beauty Cans. Each one's full of the necessary make-up you need to make your face look like Ponytail Barbie, Malibu Barbie, Foxy Barbie or Jewel Barbie.

Ponytail Barbie? Pshhh. Everyone knows Ken always goes for Malibu Barbie. She's got that sun-kissed glow all year round!

Ahoy Sailor!

It's still jacket weather in several cities across the states, but spring will come sooner for some than others. The best and easiest transition piece? The cropped sailor jacket. With three-quarter length sleeves, a roomy waistline and cute buttons to boot, you can pair one like this GF Ferre jacket with almost anything.

Because of the jacket's roominess, it's hard to pair it with a skirt, but it's not impossible - just pair it with slim skirts and dresses. For a cute look for the office, wear it over this Paul Smith dress. Black tights will keep your legs warm, and these black Alexander McQueen square-toed pumps keep the focus on the dress' fun pattern.

Look below for how to wear this cropped jacket on the weekends!

One Jacket, Three Ways to Wear It: Weekend Casual

Feb 4, 2009 by Stephanie Sims

It's easy to throw on a cute jacket to not look so schleppy on the weekends, and this GF Ferre cropped jacket makes jeans and a long-sleeved shirt more dressed up instantly. The weekends are for relaxing, so wear looser-fitting jeans during the day, like these Rock and Republic Kassandra jeans. The cropped jacket balances out the fit 'n flare look of the jeans. Go from running errands to dinner and drinks in these fun Paul Smith heels - they're cute but not too sexy to be seen in daylight.

Check back for how to wear this cropped jacket on a date!

The Daily Trend: BLACK LACE CLUTCHES

Black lace clutches are a nod to Victorian flair, but they don't look too demure when they're bold and graphic. This Jessica McClintock lace clutch embodies a minimalist shape while looking ladylike and Gothic.

Unisex Jeans? By Chloe?

Feb 3, 2009 by Stephanie Sims

Actress Chloe Sevigny announced last week that she will launch a men's unisex line. Yes...a men's unisex line.

So, I can wear my boyfriend's jeans and they won't be as baggy, because they're also made to fit women? We can mix and match menswear vests? Sevigny told Women's Wear Daily she will showcase the line in Paris. Lots of the pieces will have "girl versions," she said, smaller sizes but not different tailoring. Ah, that's where the unisex part comes in.

"It's skinny, chain-y, stud-y," she told the website. "Not only did I want to do something for the guys in my life, but a lot of my girlfriends prefer to wear men's stuff."
