Celebrity Style: Animal Prints!

Feb 10, 2009 by Tiffany B

Animal prints are definitely in fashion with celebrities. Everything from animal print accessories, like totes and scarves, to full animal print dresses. Celebrities are going wild over these animal prints. Kate Bosworth was seen wearing an animal print t-shirt as she headed to the airport, while Nicole Richie sported an animal print scarf to a red carpet event. Lily Allen took the animal print to the extreme and wore a leopard print winter coat to add some drama to her outfit. Full-on animal print dresses have been seen all over the red carpet also. America Ferrera wore a black and white tiger print dress to an event, while Maggie Gyllenhaal wore an animal print dress to the Golden Globes. This is one easy fashion trend for everyone to follow. If you are unsure about the trend, which is actually a classic fashion trend, think like Jessica Alba and start out with a snakeskin tote. Or you can go even simpler and add a touch of animal print to your outfit with an animal print belt from Dolce and Gabbana.

It appears that the 80's are back. More and more celebrities are bringing back the 80's fashion looks in a slightly more modern way. Hayden Panettiere rocked the 80's look in her gold metallic mini-dress that she wore on the red carpet. While Jessica Biel rocked a full black taffeta dress that almost looked like it could have been wore to a prom in the 80's. Other celebrities such as Miley Cyrus, Kate Bosworth, Rihanna, Blake Lively, Kate Moss and Lily Allen are also bringing out the 80's fashion garb. When trying to follow this celebrity fashion trend, you have to be careful not to look like you actually belong in the 80's. Think updated 80's fashion such as sleek dresses with polka dots and fitted leather jackets. Leave the parachute pants and shoulder pads at home. You want to look in fashion and not like a total blast from the past.

Clothing and Body Type: America Ferrera

Jan 17, 2009 by Stephanie Modkins

In 2008, we discussed a lot of different figure flaws and how to address them fashionably. Yet, there was never really a true discussion about one person who displays himself or herself beautifully in public on a regular basis. So, in commemoration of the New Year, let's do it. Who is this person? America Ferrera!

For those of you who don't know, America Ferrera has become a national sensation because of her show "Ugly Betty." This TV show is all about a young lady who is muddling through the viscous fashion world. Her looks are odd, but her insides are beautiful. In real life, America is only partially like her character. Despite her non-traditional size (for Hollywood), she always shines.

Throughout Ferrera's acting career, her weight has gone up and down. However, unlike a lot of other actresses struggling to remain "Hollywood" slim, she has always managed to look good. Why? Ferrera knows how to dress her body.

Until recently, America Ferrera has fluctuated between a size 10 and 14. Although these sizes are normal for American women, they are big for Hollywood. As a result, she has embraced several things that accentuate a curvaceous body. What does she do? She keeps it simple and wears solid colors and classic cuts. This style of dress is both slimming and elegant. The other thing that Ferrera does is play up her positive attributes.

No matter what size Ferrera is, she always has a pretty neck, shoulder and breast line. As a result, you will see her wearing a lot of sleeveless dresses on the red carpet. Then, to add a little flavor to all of this, she wears bright colors. They bring out her vibrant skin tone.

So, basically, America Ferrera embodies the kind of style we all hope to achieve. Whether thin or voluptuous, she looks fabulous because she knows how to dress. Keep this in mind as you dress yourself in 2009. Find a signature style and stay with it through thick or thin.

Celebrity Gossip: Actors Singing, Underwood in Wax, and America Doesn't like Lohan

It appears that Jessica Biel wants to be just like her boyfriend, Justin Timberlake. Biel visited a recording studio earlier this month and recorded a couple of tracks. Her rep stated that Jessica did "an amazing job." What is her rep supposed to say? That she really sucked at singing? Her rep is on her payroll! Jessica has sung before when she was a younger kid and preformed in musicals and plays. So, who knows, maybe she can really sing. Maybe her and Justin will put out a pop record together and become the king and queen of pop?

Carrie Underwood is the latest celebrity to be featured as a wax figure at Madam Tussauds in New York. When asked about her wax figure, Carrie stated, "Honestly, it looks so good, it's almost kind of creepy looking at myself." While at the unveiling of her wax figure, Underwood also answered questions about her feud with Jessica Simpson, who is dating Underwood's ex, Tony Romo. Underwood stated that there is absolutely no feud between her and Simpson, who she has only met once quite briefly, and Jessica "seemed really nice." I guess this is one celebrity feud we can put to rest.

For all you fans of Lindsay Lohan's character on the television show Ugly Betty, don't get too attached to her. Lohan has been cut from the six episodes of the series down to the four that she has already recorded. Among the rumors swirling in Hollywood is that America Ferrera, who is the star of Ugly Betty, and Lindsay Lohan were not getting along so well on the set. Supposedly, Ferrera was getting tired of Lohan thinking she was the star and acting like she was too good for everybody. If you remember, Lohan had the same issues when she filmed a couple of movies in the past. I guess her rehab didn't help her professional attitude.

Celebrity Fashion: Feminine Blouse, Striped Strapless Dresses, and Crazy Patterns

What do you wear when you are going on a nice date night or to a casual holiday party? Well, you could follow the celebrity trend and try a feminine blouse. It seems like the ruffled and feminine blouse is back in fashion. It's a great option to wear to work or when you are going out. Several celebrities such as Anne Hathaway, Kelly Ripa and Brooke Shields have all been bringing this fashion trend back. They key to wearing this blouse this season is to make sure that it is not too big on you and shows off your body shape. Try feminine blouses with ruffles and ties around the neck, like the blouses that Cavalli designs.

If you rather show off your body in a dress for your holiday party, try another celebrity trend with a striped, strapless dress. America Ferrera, Hayden Panettiere and Blake Lively have gone the striped-strapless-dress route and looked really great. The key to wearing a striped, strapless dress is to make sure that there are not stripes going down the entire dress, especially if the dress is tight. Instead, there should be blocks of stripes such as just along the bust line or big stripes that are actually more like blocks of color. When wearing a striped, strapless dress, keep the rest of the look simple with clean jewelry and shoes.

US Magazine threw their annual Hot Hollywood bash, and one of the biggest celebrity trends for the ladies was patterns. Every celebrity that you looked at had some sort of pattern on. There were pinstripes, paisleys, geometric patterns, leopard print and all sorts of loud and out-there patterns. It seemed like celebrities were shunning plain clothing for the night. Some of the ladies who attended the bash and wore patterns were Miranda Lambert, Ashley Tisdale, Blake Lively and Vanessa Hudgens. When wearing a pattern, especially a very bold one, make sure that you keep everything else simple, because you don't want to look like you are desperate for attention. Patterns are definitely one fashion trend that anyone can follow.

Celebrity Fashion: Purple, Sparkles, and Lace

Purple is definitely the "it" color with celebrities right now. From purple shirts to purple skirts to even purple evening dresses are all over Hollywood. Such celebrities as Isla Fisher, Rihanna, Hilary Duff, Beyonce and Lauren Conrad have all been rocking the purple lately. If you aren't sure about wearing purple, then add a splash of the color to your outfit instead of having it as a main color. Try some purple pumps or a necklace or bracelet with purple gems or even a purple clutch by Michael Kors. This gives you that pop of purple without being in your face.

Even though the holidays are still several months away, celebrities are bringing out the sparkle and glimmer early. Sparkle is a great look for a Christmas or New Year's Eve party. If you want to follow this trend early, why not try it on a date night or a night out on the town. Try a short silver sparkled mini-dress with black tights the way that Angie Harmon did. Or how about a cute little sparkly skirt or top like Kelly Ripa or Audrina Patridge. If you're shy about this trend and don't want to stick out in the crowd, why not go for the sparkle with your accessories. Add some cocktail rings that shine and sparkle or a belt that does the same. The possibilities are endless for the sparkle and glimmer fashion trend.

Lace is another big fashion trend in Hollywood right now, but there are a lot of people who think that they can't pull lace off. The key behind wearing lace is to make it look young and modern and not old and dowdy. Take examples from Scarlett Johansson, America Ferrera and Debra Messing. One thing that you always want to remember when wearing lace is that if it is see-through, you need to wear something underneath. If you have a lace dress, make sure that it has a slip or layer of fabric under it. Wearing lace is a great way to play up your feminine charm and look sophisticated at the same time. Lace can be worn to the office or a night out, depending on what you pair the outfit with, so it is rather versatile.
