From the Runway to Your Closet: Booties are Back this Fall

Booties are back again for this fall and are definitely a staple to have in your 2009 fall wardrobe. If you recall booties (mini-boots) made a big appearance in the fashion runways last year and were all the rage with celebrities and fashion trendsetters. It appears that booties are not going anywhere anytime soon, but the booties for this fall and winter are all about the details.

A big fashion runway trend with booties was the addition of chains. A couple layers of chains running across the front of the shoe adds some dramatic appeal to the footwear. Another detail that was seen on the runways was the use of buckles on booties. Even though these buckles served no actual purpose, they added a great fashion design to the shoes and gave them more personality.

Following this fashion trend is really not that difficult. You can easily find yourself a killer pair of booties that can get you through all of fall and winter. If you really want to spice your wardrobe up, pick a pair with chains or a buckle detail. Booties come in all different colors and materials. They can be suede, leather, or even wool. If you want to stick to the basics, then you can't go wrong with a black or dark brown leather or suede pair.

Booties can be worn with several different outfits. Despite what you may think, it is a popular fashion trend to wear booties with skirts, preferably shorter ones. You can even add some tights or leggings under the skirt as well if you really want to go all out with the trend. If you would like to keep your fashion sense a little calmer, pair a cute pair of booties with a pair of bootleg jeans or tuck a pair of skinny jeans into them. You can wear the shoes to the office, to the park, or for a date night. They are truly a transitional piece that can be worn with just about anything.

I don't see booties going anywhere and can definitely see them lasting through 2010.

Office Style: Stay Comfortable in Heels at the Office

If you work in an office that adheres to a business casual or professional dress code, selecting the right types of shoes for every ensemble can be a bit of a challenge. How do you find the perfect balance between heel height, comfort and style? While some office mavens can get away with platform pumps and stiletto heels, your feet and legs may not be in prime shape to tackle the stairs and long trek across the building in a pair of skinny heels. However, there are some ways to stay comfortable in high heels, like with Mary Janes and kitten heels for those long days that you're on your feet.

If you choose to wear stiletto pumps or another style of skinny heel, consider adding a few gel pads for extra support on the ball of your foot. The balls of your feet absorb most of the pressure from wearing those extra-high heels, and if you plan on trotting around on them for over an hour, the extra support will prevent foot pain and soreness.

When you're wearing kitten heels, consider wearing a thin no-show sock so that your feet aren't slipping out of the shoe easily. Kitten heels are a great, classy alternative to the standard pump for the office, but they can feel like a pair of sandals if they're not cut very high. Wearing a thin pair of socks with these shoes can make the shoe much more comfortable and will prevent your foot from slipping out.

If you decide to wear a pair of booties with a high heel for the day, make sure you've practiced walking up stairs and on elevated floors with them. Booties and boots will constrict your ankles, which means you can't climb very easily. If you know you're going to be tackling escalators or flights of stairs during the day, make sure you're comfortable making the climb in these constrictive shoes.

Mary Jane pumps are great for the office, but even a platform shoe or a thick heel can put some pressure on the balls of your feet and calves. Wear some padded insoles or gel support cushions if you plan on wearing tight leather shoes for several hours so you can get the support you need.

Finding the shoe that fits for your office ensembles can take time. Make sure the heels you choose can provide the comfort and support you need to get through those long days that you'll be on your feet.

Celebrity Style: Peek-A-Boo Shoulders, booties, and Purple

Dec 23, 2008 by Tiffany B

Celebrities are showing more and more shoulder these days. As the weather gets a little colder, celebrities are covering up their bodies a little bit more and using the shoulders as a peek-a-boo body part. Reese Witherspoon was seen wearing a beautiful lace gown that had an asymmetrical shoulder. Rihanna was also seen wearing a wonderful one-shouldered dress on the red carpet. If you are not sure about the asymmetrical neckline, look to the other celebrities such as Nicole Richie, Megan Fox and Miley Cyrus who have been wearing strapless dresses on the red carpet. Both strapless and asymmetrical dresses make wonderful party dresses for the upcoming holiday parties that you may have.

Not all women like wearing knee-high boots in the winter. For those women, there are alternatives that will still be in line with celebrity fashion trends. They are called booties. These shoes almost appear to look like boots, but they stop at the ankle bone on the leg. These shoes can be worn with skirts and dresses or even with your basic jeans. There are several celebrities that are fans of the booties, such as Blake Lively, Kate Moss, Sienna Miller and Kate Hudson. If you aren't sure if booties are for you, check out one of the celebrities' favorite designers, Rock and Republic, to get an idea if they would work for you.

So, what's the favorite color of the celebrities this winter? It seems like purple is going to be quite popular among celebrities this year. It was popular back in the summer and is continuing into the winter season. Everything from purple shoes to purple handbags and down to purple dresses and purple sweaters. Reese Witherspoon, Rihanna, Kelly Ripa and Taylor Swift. Look for purple tones that are richer and deeper like plums and mauves, instead of pastel purples. If you really aren't a purple wearing person, why not try out a purple cocktail ring to add just a splash of purple?
