Celebrity Style Mashup: Taylor Swift and Beyonce Knowles

Taylor Swift

Sweet singer Taylor Swift exudes femininity with her pink and champagne outfits, delicate country florals and cowgirl boots. Her look is adorable, and in addition to her angelic looks and voice, is part of the reason she is a popular pop star and fashion icon. Taylor Swift rocked a 1940s-inspired belted trench coat at her MTV Video Music Awards performance, and took it off to reveal a girlish red dress.

She was a stunning young lady in red, and the spectrum of reds and pinks suits her well. She does not shy away from cranberry reds, deep pomegranates, bubble gum pinks and barely-there blushing pinks. These colors complement her underlying wardrobe of all shades of white. Swift also works greens, bright blues and the occasional lilac or black formal wear.

We could edge her out slightly with a pair of floral-looking lace heels, with a metallic polish. They would work with any floral dress, a fuchsia tank dress, or with leggings and and over-sized sweatshirt gray, belted cardigan.

Beyonce Knowles

Where Taylor Swift's style is subdued and subtle, Beyonce Knowles is downright eye-popping. A pair of lattice black heels studded with gold could easily become a major component in Beyonce's wardrobe, if we ever saw her wear anything twice. A pair of shoes which exude her personal flair could be worn with a designer gown, a sexy sheath dress, or leather leggings with a matching, belted coat.

Knowles' wardrobe color palette ranges from deep, eggplant purples to sunshine yellow, and every color in between. Similar to Swift, Knowles knows when to work a mostly white or off-white ensemble, from neckline to shoe choice. Beyonce also knows the power of red, and wore a hot red number to the VMAs.

Both super stars performed at the 2009 MTV VMA show, and both women went home with awards.

Celebrity Gossip: Megan Fox Talks Trash

Sep 21, 2009 by Tiffany B

Tom Brady has finally confirmed what the entire world has known for the past month or two. His wife, model Gisele Bundchen is pregnant and the baby is expected to arrive sometime in December. In an interview that the NFL star did for ESPN's SportsCenter, he joked that he "told her no Sundays," when it came time to give birth to the baby. He also jokingly said, "It couldn't be harder than training camp, so I'll be prepared." The latest pictures of Bundchen definitely showed a growing baby bump so it was no surprise that the couple would have to confirm the baby news sooner or later. This will be the first child for Gisele and the second for Tom Brady. Tom has a 2-year-old son with his ex, actress Bridget Moynahan.

Another daddy-to-be that has confirmed another child on the way is actor Colin Farrell. The actor confirmed that he and his girlfriend Alicja Bachleda are expecting their first child together. The couple started dating earlier this year. This will be the second child for Farrell as he has a 5-year-old son with model Kim Bordenave.

Apparently *Megan Fox*'s coworkers are not that happy with her and what comes out of her mouth. Recently Fox compared the Transformers director Michael Bay to Adolph Hitler and three anonymous film crew workers from Transformers had something to say about it. On the movie's website, the crew members wrote an open letter to the fans calling Megan Fox "thankless, classless, and graceless." These crew members have worked with Bay for the past ten years and wanted to "set a few things straight." They went on to call Fox, "dumb-as-a-rock," and "ungracious." The later part of the letter mocked the comparison between Fox and Angelina Jolie stating that they have worked with Angelina before and Megan is nowhere near being Jolie. The letter ended with "Hopefully Michael will have Megatron squish her character in the first ten minutes of Transformers 3." The writing has since been removed from the website but Bay took to his own website and said that he "doesn't condone the crew letter to Megan." He added that he still looks forward to working with Megan Fox on the next Transformers and expects even more outlandish quotes from her. So, is this simply fame gone to her head or is she that oblivious that you don't go talking about people that way?

Wear This, Not That: Cardigans are good for you!

Sep 15, 2009 by Pam Gaulin

Streamlined Sweaters, Not Clunky
Forget last year's bulky sweaters with larger-than-life triangle collars and buttons worthy of an elementary school bulletin board. Opt instead for a sleek and streamlined cardigan. Rather than a torso shortening collar, this fall's cardigan lengthens you with long columnar draping in the front, ideal for pairing with your favorite leggings.

Monochromatic, Not Complementary
Make your mornings easier and pick out a monochromatic outfit one or two days this week. Dress from head to toe in one hue, from earrings to shoes, and revel in the accolades and approving nods. The color does not have to be a citron or red, but try something other than black.

Ethnic Prints not Factory Shapes
Get rooted with ethnic prints in your wardrobe. Replace your favorite plaid with prints resembling woven fabric.

Over the Knee Not Under
If you were floored by the high knee-grazing boots of seasons past, you will love the new over-the-knee boots. Pull off the look with a pair of warm velvet over-the-knee stockings, or embrace the look with thigh high boots. The key to wearing over-the-knee boots gracefully and with style is choose a pair of flat, neutral colored boots. It's okay to wear with a short skirt or dress, but arms and decolletage should be covered up. Let the attention fall to the boots and your legs.

Squares over Rectangles
Going back to elementary school for a moment, opt for square-shaped, compact handbags over rectangular ones.

Dark Lenses, Not Rose Colored Glasses
You can still look at the world through rose-colored glasses, but only proverbially. For hip eye wear, choose the sunglasses with strong frames, worn by movie fashion icons from Audrey Hepburn in the 1960s to Tom Cruise in the 1980s. Don't worry, though, you can still match them to your outfit thanks to Wayfarer's new colored frames.

Belted Coats not Loose Coats
Your transitional season coat should be belted, buttoned and rest mid-thigh, perfect for wearing with your favorite skirt or leggings and to protect you from cool Autumn breezes.

Celebrity Style Mashup: Classy Meets Casual

Sep 15, 2009 by Pam Gaulin

Two actresses featured in films at the 66th Venice International Film Festival provide the inspiration for a classy and casual celebrity fashion mashup: Eva Mendes and Chloe Sevigny.

While it's possible that Eva Mendes and Chloe Sevigny met up at the 66th Venice International Film Festival, what would happen if their luggage had been swapped?

Classy Lady: Eva Mendes
Eva Mendes is one of those breathtaking Hollywood beauties that does not get enough camera time. She exudes classic Hollywood glamour and is a true fashion icon for any well-heeled woman. Recently she strolled down the red carpet with Nicolas Cage at the Venice Film Festival. Her eye make up was toned down and she wore her hair straight, parted in the middle and highlighted.

Most at home in a formal dress or matching pant suit, Eva Medes was born to wear white. She is also often seen wearing solid colors and monochromatic outfits. The star who describes herself as environmentally-conscious could wear this stretchy white skirt with a champagne tank top, giving her a more casual look.

Art Film Chic: Chloe Sevigny
Another not-often seen but always admired actress is Chloe Sevigny. Her fashion style fits her movie roles: more artsy and creative, as she thinks outside the hat box. Chloe Sevigny should continue to include quirky elements in her outfits, while adding classic pieces and designer wear. Her current style has moved from art house to coffee house, and it seems more relaxed and casual. She can wear a fitted jean jacket with a short designer dress.

Similar to Eva Mendes, Chloe Sevigny is one of those actresses blessed with long legs and she wears shorter dresses and skirts to show them off. Eva Mendes emphasizes her legs by wearing longer, sometimes below-the-knee skirts which hug her curves.

A Week in Venice
Even if their luggage had been swapped, Chloe Sevigny and Eva Mendes will be turning heads long after the film festival fanfare fizzles.

Celebrity Style Mashup: Kim Kardashisan and Carrie Underwood

Sep 8, 2009 by Pam Gaulin

Kim Kardashian and Carrie Underwood may seem like night and day at first glance. Kim Kardashian exemplifies busy city style while Carrie Underwood still has a bit of charming country in her step. Both women are chameleons with color, and have the ability to make any hue work.

Kim Kardashian: Splashes of Blue
There probably isn't a color that would not look stunning on city slicker Kim Kardashian. She can wear all pink, black and white, purple, gray, red, yellow and sometimes green. She frequently wears splashes of blue, from bright blue tops to blue skirts. She knows how to pair a longer top with leggings or skinny jeans, top it with a jacket, and the right big bag and high heels.

Even in a pair of blue jeans, Kim Kardashian knows that fully-done big hair and impeccable make up area part of her signature style.

Kim's Silhouettes
Kim's fashion silhouette ranges from wearing a longer top, drawing attention down from her womanly hips and bottom to her legs. The other common silhouette she adores is one which cinches her waist and emphasizes her hourglass figure.

Carrie Underwood: Romance in the Country
For a softer look, turn the other cheek to Carrie Underwood. No matter how big Carrie Underwood's star grows, she still beams that innocent and sweet smile, and will always be a country girl at heart. She looks like she is floating in romantic hues and textures.

A pair of brown slip-on heels will carry Underwood through her days of pink and champagne hues, or a day spent in her jeans. Similar to Kardashian, Underwood can pull off nearly any color, from deep purples and bright blues to orange, pink and black. She also works her hair as a fashion accessory, pulling off a big bangs look, a side swept low ponytail, or big sexy hair, all with aplomb.

Celebrity Style Mashup: Get Schooled with Amanda Seyfried and Mischa Barton

Sep 1, 2009 by Pam Gaulin

Two fashion icons to learn from in the fall season are Amanda Seyfried and Mischa Barton. Look to Amanda Seyfried for muted palettes, and round out the style with darker, vintage edges like Mishca Barton wears.

Amanda Seyfried
Amanda Seyfried has a secret. She's not the wide-eyed airhead from Mean Girls. She is a beautiful, wide-eyed and modern Alice in Wonderland, with an eye for sharp fashion. Soft colors and textures enhance her look, and she looks at home with touches of school-girl fashion in her ensembles.

Known for Mean Girls and Mama Mia! expect to see more of innocent beauty Amanda Seyfried in upcoming movies Jennifer's Body, Dear John, Letters to Juliet and A Woman of No Importance.

Start any Amanda Seyfried look with a pair of lace-up shoes. Try peep-toes or a pair of lace ups with chunky heels, and a posh metallic shine. A pair of gray, beige and barely-there pink plaid shorts with an attached fabric robe style belt with a beige, over-sized cardigan. Add a matching hat and bag, white t-shirt and a pair of white tights. Add long strands of gold chains or a pink pearl necklace. Shades of white, petal pink, gold, as well as soft tiny patterns are all at home in Amanda Seyfried's wardrobe.

Mischa Barton
Ageless beauty Mishca Barton, who has a look and air of sophistication and a worldly, almost ancient knowledge about her, has looks in stark contrast with doe-eyed Amanda Seyfried. Her look is more eclectic, with more black and more contrast. Mischa can pair a flowing and chiffon sky blue with black boots.

Mischa Barton returns to TV, proving there is life after The O.C. Mischa Barton stars in The Beautiful Life, as a model. The show is produced by former model Ashton Kutcher. Mischa Barton's own style, she claims is eclectic and she has a habit of shopping vintage. Adding vintage boots to a modern outfit elevates your fashion style to runway status.

Celebrity Style Mashup: Blair Waldorf and Georgina Sparks - Back to School, Gossip Girl Style

Aug 25, 2009 by Pam Gaulin

It's almost time for two highly-anticipated fall events: a new season of Gossip Girl, and a new school year to wear your favorite fashions. What happens when you mashup styles worn by a true bad girl, Georgina Sparks and the Queen Bee who looks innocent but is really the fierce strike of lightening hiding in the storm clouds?

Queen Bee Blair Waldorf
Leighton Meester is a true picture of a good school girl, in her plaid. Blair Waldorf loves her tartan coats and plaid skirts. She completes further creates the illusion of being the good schoolgirl with her colorful and youthful tights. Always feminine in a skirt or dress, Blair Waldorf is the true Queen Bee, with a sting.

She further softens her look with girlish embellishments on her clothing, including puffy sleeves or long sailor collars. She adds contrasting color bows to shirts and adorns her perfect coif with headbands. Sometimes she reveals her power as the Queen Bee and wears power red, but she does it with style and modesty, with a pair of red tights or cropped jacket.

Really Bad Girl Georgina Sparks
If Queen Bee Blair Waldorf is the wolf in sheep's clothing then Georgina Sparks, as portrayed by Gossip Girl guest star Michelle Trachtenberg is a wolf all the way. Not afraid to wear bold black peep toe boots with buckles or a pair of painted on pants, Georgina Sparks embraces her dark side through fashion.

You won't catch Georgina Sparks in plaids or skirts, her style needs to wear the pants, to let everyone know who's boss. Think about Olivia Newton-John in Grease. What did she do when she wanted to be taken seriously? She traded in her layered skirt for a pair of liquid black pants, similar to those worn by Georgina Sparks.

Play the Queen Bee, and dress the part of the good girl, keeping your gossipy stinger hidden, or show the world your more jaded side, with a touch of bad girl style from Georgina Sparks' wardrobe.

Sporty and fashion-forward Gwen Stefani and classic fashion experimenter Gwyneth Paltrow offer women two distinctive fashion models to emulate. Both Gwen and Gwyneth are fashion risk-takers, and their personal choices pay off for them, on the red carpet, or while enjoying casual family time.

Breaking the Rules
Gwen and Gwyneth can break the rules and wear bone white shoes anytime of the year. Both of these fashion icons could wear the same shoes and build an outfit around them that would be uniquely their own. Gwen Stefani could choose her favorite black and white combination, or a patriotic red, white and blue outfit. She's also known to go glam, and these shoes would add the right amount of Hollywood femininity to her harder-edged outfits.

Travel in Style
You know Gwen Stefani isn't trying to shove all her make up and accessories in some boring purse or overnight bag, so why should you? You don't have to be a rock star to appreciate a cute rocking Hurley Top Forty Make Up/Train Case to store your overnight accessories, ideal for a sleepover or weekend getaway.

Gwyneth Rocks the Dress
Nobody rocks dresses with more elegance and class than Gwyneth Paltrow. Even when she pushes the fashion envelope, in a white dress with black lacy trim resembling lingerie, or opts for an electric blue and silver number, she always looks completely confident and happening.

Staples for Gwen and Gwyneth
Both women are equally comfortable-looking and chic in leather coats or cozy cardigans. These fashionable moms layer their cardigans with dresses or casual wear when taking their little ones out and about. They both also know how to jazz up an outfit with one bright color piece, from a bag to a pair of boots.

Rock your own wardrobe staples, like Gwen and Gwyneth.

Wear This, Not That: Transition to that Fall Wardrobe

Aug 10, 2009 by Pam Gaulin

Airport Frump to Airport Trump
Be comfortable and chic while flying this summer. Trade in sneakers for comfortable and stylish sandals that let your feet breathe. Save the sweatpants for the gym and don a pair of shiny leggings and over-sized t-shirt. Wear a blazer or cardigan to keep you warm in flight, or to roll up and use as a pillow.

Watercolors, Not Waterproof
Trade in the day's bathing suit for a watercolor print dress, to go frolicking on the town with your sun glow. Watercolor print dresses look like they were lifted from Claude Monet, Matisse and Georgia O'Keeffe. This whimsical swirl of a dress could have been lifted from a Raoul Dufy canvas. Iris blues, fuchsias and teal flower print dresses and and skirts make a flirty statement.

Overdone to Undone
The best looks right now and going into fall are simple. A crisp white shirt, denim bottoms and a pair of black shoes is all you need. Consider an over-sized men's shirt and denim shorts.

Pre-Fall, Not Summer

Leg Warmers
You just got comfy in your shorts and sandals, but are you ready for the pre-fall season? Legs are your best accessory for the pre-fall season and leg warmers, tight, like leggings, will help you transition from summer to fall this year.

Hand-less Gloves
Cover arms in the same way with wrist to elbow gloves, and consider Kim Kardashian's one-glove wearing ensemble a tribute to the late Michael Jackson, and not the start of a trend. Stick with the same color as the leg warmers, although a different fabric and texture is encouraged. Wear the leg warmers and hand-less gloves together with your favorite short skirt outfit.

One Awesome Pair of Jeans, not Five
One pair of awesome jeans can get you through the rest of summer and into fall. Want the cropped look but love your boot leg or slightly flared jeans? Cuff them up the same way Jennifer Aniston and Jessica Alba do. When the weather cools, roll those cuffs back down.

Celebrity Style Mashup: The Ugly Truth About Katie and Katherine

Aug 4, 2009 by Pam Gaulin

Yes, that's a play on the title of a new movie, because we are not here to bad mouth Katie Holmes or Katherine Heigl. They are both fashionably impeccable and impossible not to admire.

Katie Holmes: She's Got Legs

Katie Homes' much-anticipated performance on "So You Think You Can Dance" was more Catherine Zeta Jones than Judy Garland, yet people are pleased. The outfit didn't hurt, as Katie showed off her dancing legs by wearing a silky black shirt coat that covered her bottom, black nylons, high heels and a masculine hat.

When Katie performs, her outfits are saucy and sultry, unlike the more subdued sexiness of Katherine Heigl, who can play hers down and still be steaming.

Katherine Heigl in The Ugly Truth

Neutral Zone
For her work attire as a morning show producer, Katherine Heigl opts for neutral colors with hints of preppy perkiness. As a smart woman, she knows that a long day in heels can make for unhappy dancing feet, so she slides on professional flats. They could use a little more shine, to match her simple jewelry, and these Rockport Azah flats would pair well with her butter yellow cardigan, gray top and black skirt.

Casual and Boyish
Has anyone ever looked more uncomfortable in casual attire than Katherine Heigl did in the stadium scene? Granted, it wasn't the clothing that was at issue, it was the situation. She stuck with her normal color scheme of tan and dark, neutral new-looking dark blue jeans.

Her tan sweatshirt with a blue stripe had a schoolboy appeal, with a sporty look and silver snaps. It was anything but sophisticated, and looked like she was trying to hard to dress the part, just as she was trying to change her demeanor from her normal self.

Out on the Town
While on the town, Katherine Heigl's character opts for bright colors, tight-fitting dresses and bares all of her back. Katie and Katherine are both sexy and fashionable, in their own appropriate ways.

Celebrity Style Mashup: Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett

Jul 14, 2009 by Pam Gaulin

It's impossible to mention Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett without considering their contributions to fashion. Farrah's casual yet hip look from her Charlie's Angels days, and Michael's clothes adorned with crystals are back in vogue. Where Farrah Fawcett's style is soft, with beige and shell hues and soft edges, Michael's was about contrast, flash and edginess.

Casual Elegance of Farrah Fawcett: The Beauty
Farrah Fawcett's natural beauty was enhanced by her understated and softly colored wardrobe. She could make any white or light color look like gold. A pair of casual, off-white pants with a pair of platform heels and collared shirt were all she needed for a day or night on the town.

Farrah Fawcett looked just as beautiful and elegant in a pair of jeans, a red blouse and a pair of Nike roller skates. No matter what she wore, her accessories were minimal, and she let her movie star smile and fabulous hair accessorize her look. Highlight your best feature every day, or go pop star style and accessorize your wardrobe like a star, similar to Michael Jackson.

Borrowing from Michael Jackson: The Beat
The popularity of the Swarovski crystal has not waned since Michael Jackson first came into his own, wearing that infamous red leather coat. It is more popular today than ever before, and can be found on boots, hair accessories, shirts and jackets. Wearing an ornate necklace is one way to add extravagant shine to your wardrobe, and get noticed, pop star style.

He wore black and white frequently, in a way that has been emulated frequently by pop star Gwen Stefani. Gwen Stefani often sports black and white, striped or not, or black and red stripes. Contrast is key for pop star style, and when you want everyone to notice you walk to your own beat.

Celebrity Style Mashup: Johnny Depp and Shia LeBeouf - Channeling the Public Transformers

Jul 7, 2009 by Pam Gaulin

Two of the summer's hottest commodities are at a big screen near you, in blazing style. Johnny Depp sheds his pirate gear for Retro suits and Shia LeBeouf takes on the transformers, in classic jeans and leather coat. Both actors exude a sense of cool and modern appeal, yet both fit snugly with hip and retro styles of the men who came before them.

The Slim Suit
After wearing beads in his hair and his goatee, Johnny Depp may be pleased to shed his pirate skin for a fresh-faced and kempt look, with retro suits of the 1930s. For the look, Depp dons the full suit ensemble complete with gloves, vest, heavy trench coat and not surprisingly, a hat.

Fedoras are a must in the Johnny Depp-inspired wardrobe. Depp also wears light-colored shoes to match off-white suit pants and shirt in the film. A monochromatic look, from head to feet can look suave on the right guy.

Shia, Frank and Dick
Another version of the slim suit which can be seen on Shia LeBeouf is the casual combination of white dress shirt, skinny tie, slender jeans and a button-up sweater. The look hearkens back to both Frank Sinatra and Dick Van Dyke, two charismatic men of talent. Adding his own twist to the look, Shia LeBeouf would be more likely to wear a pair of black or gray Vans Classic Slip-On Core Classics than a casual or dress shoe with this ensemble.

Black Leather
No matter how you mash up a look inspired by Johhny Depp and Shia LeBeouf, some items will remain the same. A black leather coat with a bad boy Marlon Brando look is a must. A pair of relaxed blue jeans, in good shape, paired with a graphic T-shirt should also be in this wardrobe. Dress it up with a pair of black biker boots or dress shoes. Or, pull a Shia and dress your ties and shirts down by donning a pair of comfortable slip-on sneakers.

Celebrity Style Mashup: Hot and Cold - Vanessa Hudgens and Jennifer Aniston

Jun 30, 2009 by Pam Gaulin

Vanessa Hudgens and Jennifer Aniston are on opposite sides of the rainbow. Vanessa Hudgens shines in her cool colors, particularly teals, blue-greens and purple hues. Jennifer Aniston, on the other hand, looks best when she's wearing Bohemian, and warm earth hues, including peachy orange.

You might lean towards one color hue more than the other, depending on your skin tone, hair color and personal preferences. Try on colors worn well by both women, to see if you are more warm or cool, or more Jennifer than Vanessa.

Warm Jennifer
Jennifer Aniston can opt for lighter neutrals in her wardrobe. Her highlighted hair and freshly-tanned skin go best with warm colors. A pair of strappy espadrilles, in orange or light tan, would pair well with a white peasant skirt or a pair of khaki shorts and bikini top while at the beach.

While the vibrant and natural beauty Jennifer Aniston can also wear some cooler colors, including pink and light blue, she looks dazzling in champagne, gold, warm peachy pinks, and burnt yellows.

Cool Vanessa
Cool Vanessa Hudgens, with her raven locks, dark eyes and natural glow looks best in cool colors. A sweet, multi-colored dress with turquoise, purple and greens is the start of a spot on Vanessa Hudgens outfit. Add a padlock bag with a short strap in a color matching one in the dress, and a matching cardigan for the evening. Blueberry blue, apple green, bone white and black are all part of Vanessa Hudgens' cool star power.

Vanessa Hudgens, similar to Jennifer Aniston, can also go Bohemian, as long as the colors are bright, bold and patterned. She can easily pull off a pair of bright blue boots, gigantic white sunglasses and matching accessories.

Both stars do minimal well, when they stay within their best colors, and add to-die-for shoes and handbags.

Celebrity Style Mashup: Not So Clueless - Bella and Cher

Jun 23, 2009 by Pam Gaulin

The goth and hip style of Kristen Stewart's Bella in Twilight could benefit from a feminine touch, as much as Alicia Silverstone's Cher in Clueless could use a little more brooding in her wardrobe. Combine the feminine innocence of Cher's fashion with the darker and more androgynous look of Bella for a stylish celebrity fashion mash-up.

White Meet Black
A classic look from the movie Clueless that still intrigues girls today are white knee-high socks and above-the-knee socks. In Cher's day, way back in 1995, the white knee socks were worn with a happy yellow plaid skirt.

Where Cher's shoes were shiny, patent leather, Kristen Stewart in Twilight is more apt to don a pair of Chucks or Doc Martens. Combine the look of white patent leather and the edge of a black sole with black laces and you have these celebrity mash-up boots by Timberland.

Accessory Lessons
Kristen Stewart can take accessory lessons from Alicia Silverstone's Cher. Whether it's a color-coordinated phone, a wide headband or the perfect dangling earrings, Cher was always dressed from head to feet. Spruce up your own Kristen Stewart-inspired outfit with a black beret, totally Cher, but ideal for Twilight weather.

Distressed Polish
Continue the polished meets distressed look. Combine a tailored blouse with a thin, high belt and a pair of distressed and torn jeans. Wear a pair of open-toed ankle boots in metallic or silver for a more innocent look, or be brash and wear black booties.

Plaids
One crossover element in both of these character's wardrobes is plaid. For a clean, preppy look opt for white with black stripes, or a yellow or pink fabric with black or chocolate brown stripes. For the more Twilight look, a red or gray plaid works. Combine Twilight and Clueless styles by starting with a pastel-colored skort and combining it with black and gray clothing and accessories.
