Celebrity Style Mashup: The Sweet Fashion Lives of Kate Hudson and Nicole Kidman

Co-stars Kate Hudson and Nicole Kidman may share vamp fashion secrets in the musical remake of Fellini's 8 1/2, but their personal styles set up more of a dichotomy. Both actresses star in the fashionista movie of the year, Nine, a movie that will send you running for your chic black dresses.

The Fellini Appeal
In Nine the stars wear their smoky and smudged eyeliner and shadow glamorously, and complete their sexy looks with glittery black designer dresses, wide fishnet stockings, big 1960s style hair, and over-the-knee boots.

Bohemian Kate Hudson
While Kate Hudson looks stunning in a yellow Dior gown or a metallic brown Stella McCartney dress. Kate Hudson manages to add glamour to simple Bohemian looks. She is one of the few actresses who could have successfully worn an orange, yellow and black print Valentino gown.

Kate elevates simple Bohemian to Boho chic by accessorizing a pair of torn boyfriend jeans with textured suede. She adds hats, bold jewelry, a pair of comfy boots and designer handbags to her laid-back Bohemian style. A stack of silver bangles, colorful sunglasses and styled hair complete her chic Bohemian style.

Glamazon Nicole Kidman
Statuesque Nicole Kidman dresses for the red carpet even when there isn't one. She is not an actress you'll find unkempt or even going Bohemian casual. Nicole Kidman is a vision of seriousness, in contrast to the playful fashion of Kate Hudson.

The walking mermaid's dresses look painted onto her lean figure. Despite her natural height, Nicole Kidman always as the perfect pair of heels to pair with her designer gowns.

In the movie Nine their roles are slightly reversed, with Nicole Kidman playing the actress/muse and Kate Hudson takes on the more serious role of fashion journalist, Nicole Kidman remains the glamour queen and Kate Hudson's wardrobe exhibits her signature playfulness.

Fashion Shows: Ebony Fashion Fair!

A rundown of the world's largest traveling fashion show.

Ebony Fashion Fair is the world's largest traveling fashion show. Conceived in 1958 by high society African-American women as a way to bring high fashion to their community at a time when segregation still existed, and currently celebrating its 50th anniversary, Ebony Fashion Fair is a chance for women of all backgrounds around the country to see high-end designers locally while benefiting over 180 non-profit scholarship funds. Each year features a theme, such as The Mood of Romance, The Jazz Age of Fashion, or Glam Odyssey.

Mrs. Eunice W. Johnson, producer-director of Ebony Fashion Fair, is kind of the black community's Fern Mallis. She's the first African-American fashion buyer to go to Paris, according to Ebony Fashion Fair's website, only her productions have raised over 54 million dollars for charities to date, as opposed to merely benefiting commercial sponsors. Ebony Fashion Fair is also credited with creating the first African-American supermodel, Pat Cleveland. Some other high profile people who have been connected with the production over the years include actor Richard Roundtree, Janet Langhart Cohen (wife of former Defense Secretary William S. Cohen), and Sue Simmons, one of our favorite local newscasters in the New York City television market. Fashion Fair cosmetics, another project of the Johnson family, is the world's number one cosmetics line for women of color, got its name from Ebony Fashion Fair, and has shared many models with the fashion show.

One of the local appearances of Ebony Fashion Fair in my area will be in Atlantic City, at the Taj Mahal Casino on September 13, 2008. This date immediately follows New York Fashion Week, and it's a hike from Bryant Park, but it's worth seeing, since such designers as Anna Sui, Carolina Herrera, Luca Luca, Tracy Reese, Missoni, Pauline Trigere, Roberto Cavalli, Lacroix, Ungaro, and the holy trinity of Dior, Givenchy and Yves Saint Laurent have all been featured there. Though you can get by at New York Fashion Week with jeans, a black top and a good bag and shoes, if you're headed to Ebony Fashion Fair, make an effort or you'll embarrass yourself.

Sex, Headwear, Gowns and the City

How can you talk about fashion without mentioning "Sex and the City?" When the London premiere of the "Sex and the City" happened on May 12, all eyes were on Sarah Jessica Parker and her hat. She must have been channeling her character, Carrie Bradshaw, or else she just wanted to really stand out. Along with a strapless green Alexander McQueen dress, she wore a Phillip Treacy hat that resembled a person's garden. It even came with a huge flower and two butterflies planted on the top. What I wonder is how did she last all night with that thing on her head and who had to sit behind her during the premier of the movie?

The other three other stars of the movie also attended the London premiere, but Parker's headwear might have out-shined everyone involved.... Kim Catrall, who plays Samantha Jones in the movie, wore a stunning red Vivienne Westwood dress. She was also appropriately dressed to match her character's personality in a vibrant red cocktail dress. Cynthia Nixon, who plays Miranda Hobbes wore a sleek, long black dress from Calvin Klein. The dress was cut down low in the front, but she still looked very elegant in the dress. Kristin Davis, who plays Charlotte York in the movie, donned a vintage bright red dress. With her long brown hair down and her ruby earrings she looked gorgeous on the red carpet.<p>For the actual movie, the well-known stylist Patricia Field returned to dress the cast. You can be sure to see the famous designer's clothing , such as Dior, Vera Wang, and Oscar De LaRenta, make an appearance on the women. In fact, the wedding gown that Sarah Jessica Parker's character, Carrie Bradshaw, is wearing in the advertisements for the movie is a satin Vivienne Westwood creation. In other parts of the advertisement, Carrie can be seen wearing a Burberry belt and sporting a Chanel handbag. In one of the most visible advertisements for the movie, Carrie is seen in a white Ralph Lauren vest and pants with a pink top and black tie.

Anyone wanting to stay on top of the oncoming fashion trends for the oncoming seasons, might want to pay close attention to this flick....keep your eyes peeled!
