Not all harem pants are created equal. While some current incarnations of the harem pants are being shown with dropped crotches and causing some panic among fashionistas, there are comfortable and tasteful harem pants available. These contemporary harem pants in black are gathered at the ankle, and have a flattering silhouette. Other harem pants look like a combination of a skirt plus leggings, mimicking the once popular look of a pair of jeans underneath a skirt, which is very modelesque.

Harem pants came on the fashion scene near the beginning of the 20th century, as created by French designer Paul Poiret. The loose pants were in direct opposition to corsets and other binding clothing for women. Poiret was also fond of draping. It's not surprising that draping and harem pants have increased in popularity simultaneously. Today the appearance of harem pants can be attributed to a desire for exoticism in our everyday lives, and by an interest in fashions of the 1980s.

In the 1980s, harem pants, the draped style with the tapered ankles were popular. They could be worn with ankle slouch boots which were popular at the time. MC Hammer, in heavy rotation on MTV wore his extreme version of harem pants.

Barbara Eden wore them well in I Dream of Jeanie, although she longed more for the appearance of Doris Day and Jackie O., matching pastel suits complete with hats and gloves. Jeanie's harem pants were sheer, made in a classic full style and not made for leaving the bottle.

Harem pants have been populating the fashion runways, and off the runway Jennifer Lopez, Debra Messing and Rachel Stevens have been photographed wearing harem pants.

Modern harem pants may also be three-quarter length, similar to Capris, tapered below the knee, and made to fit closer to the body than 1980s harem pants. Some will balk at the resurgence of harem pants, but for converts, enjoy them during dance class, yoga, or for a night-time walk on the beach.

It seems like there is more drama happening in the split between actress Jodie Sweetin and her husband Cody Herpin. Courts have ruled that Sweetin is no longer able to see her-8 month-old daughter, Zoie, without supervision. Herpin has accused Sweetin of being an "unfit mother." He claims that she has driven under the influence with their daughter in the car. Sweetin is a former meth addict and alcoholic, which is why her first marriage failed. According to the court's ruling, Sweetin is not allowed to be alone with her daughter and can only have her if one of her parents is home (she currently lives with her parents). This situation just gets sadder and sadder as this poor little girl is being dragged through this! Who would have ever thought that Stephanie Tanner from Full House would end up this way?

Could another Hollywood couple be headed for divorce? According to US Weekly Magazine, the marriage of Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony is "at a breaking point." Lopez has been seen out and about without her husband and without her wedding rings. Sources close to the couple claim that Anthony is very controlling of Jennifer and that Jennifer blames Marc Anthony for her career going down. The couple has not been spotted together since the end of October. Did anyone really think that this couple would last? When they got married, I predicted that they would not last. Jennifer Lopez was too much of a celebrity to be tied down with someone like Marc Anthony, who has no appeal to him. I guess we will just have to wait and see when the official split comes from them.

They'd each made a funny video about sleeping with Matt Damon and Ben Affleck that became wildly popular online... and now this.

Angelina Jolie gave birth to the newest Jolie-Pitt babies in France this past weekend. She and Brad Pitt named their fraternal twins Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline. Now, I have to give Brangelina props for picking some pretty cool names - not too outrageous, but not your everyday names either. Although I predict we're going to see a surge in little boys being named Knox from now on, don't you think? Angelina and the twins are staying in the hospital for a few more days while the twins add on a little weight, but other than that everything seems to have gone perfectly. Is Khloe Kardashian going to be this year's Paris Hilton ? Well, it looks like she's going to have to do time for last year's DUI arrest and apparently the judge wants to make an example out of her by making her serve her time. She was originally sentenced to do 30 days, but sources are predicting that she'll probably end up serving less than a day. Ok, so maybe she's not going to be exactly like poor Paris Hilton.

And finally, we've all heard the reports of Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony claiming to want to raise their twin babies, Max and Emme, on their own without the help of nannies. Well it seems that the real reason for that statement is because Jennifer and Marc can't hold onto a nanny to save their lives. Could it be that J-Lo expects too much from the nannies? She apparently wants one nanny to care for both babies and to work 16 hour days, 7 days a week. It seems a bit much considering the fact that she could easily afford a whole fleet of nannies and have them rotate.

The world's most famous pregnant 17-year-old, Jamie Lynn Spears, had her baby this past week. She not only demanded that the store close down so she could shop in private (they didn't), but then she tried on outfit after outfit, leaving a huge mess in the dressing room and not buying anything. Jennifer Aniston is playing a new role these days: most famous groupie. That's right, Jennifer is joining boyfriend, John Mayer for his UK tour. MTV is handing out spin-off shows like candy to the cast of the popular reality show, The Hills. We first heard that Whitney Port would be getting her own "Hills"-type show, but now playboy Brody Jenner is going to be getting a "Tila Tequila"-type show, called Bromance, where guys will compete to be part of Brody's entourage. You know what would be hilarious - if Spencer Pratt, Brody's former BFF, was among the contestants!

You'll be happy to hear that the world is safe from the spawn of Paris Hilton... for this month anyway. Although there had been rumors that the heiress might be pregnant because of what appeared to be a baby bump, Paris was recently spotted partying at a club for the filming of her upcoming reality show and indulging in some drinking and smoking. So either she's not pregnant or just really dumb. Of course, this is Paris Hilton we're talking about, so it could go either way.

Jennifer Garner recently had a bit of a scare while on out with the Jennifer Garner mini-me, daughter Violet. She accidentally locked the keys in the car along with her daughter. Luckily, she was able to give directions to Violet through the window and the smart tot was out quicker than she could say "Jennifer Lopez is my almost-mommy".

And *Jessica Simpson*'s country album hasn't even been released but that hasn't stopped the tabloids from creating drama between her and another blonde bombshell country star.
