The dress. The dancing. The date. Prom is one of those life events that bring up lots of fond memories. It’s a time to get dolled up, have fun on the dance floor with your friends and create memories to last a lifetime. With such a momentous occasion at hand, the dress is definitely an essential element to the evening.
We asked the two fashion mavens to spill some details about their own proms and what made the night special:
What was the most memorable part of your high school prom?
Rachel: Letting loose with my friends and classmates made the night most memorable, but also winning senior prom queen was a second close memory.
Liz:The most memorable part of my prom was our after-party. We had a huge celebration at my friend's house and invited all of our classmates. It was just a fun night and it was wonderful to spend it with everyone.
What did you wear? If you could have a “do over”, what would you change about your prom look?
Rachel: I wore this gorgeous A-line chiffon, sequined black dress that I bought 5 months before prom! I also spent a whole week just getting made up for prom: tanning, eyebrows, nails, everything. I looked so awful and so overdone! If I could do it over again, I would say stay simple and not stress about the night.
Liz:I wore a gold lace dress that was shorter in the front and longer in the back. I did a smokey eye and had a totally stiff prom up-do. The only thing I would change would be my hair. If I did prom over, I would wear my hair loose and natural, none of that cemented to my scalp with 10 bottles of hairspray nonsense.
Rachel: It would be a super minimalist dress with a sexy silhouette. Maybe something with a high neck and lots of shoulder showing, and an A-line that hits at the calf.
Liz: I would create something very flowing with lots of movement and it would definitely be metallic. I would love to see a beautiful metallic gown for prom.
Since you ladies live in Los Angeles, describe what a great pre-prom and post-prom day in L.A. would look like…:
Rachel: Pre-prom is all about pampering yourself. I'd probably spend the whole day at a Korean spa getting a scrub and massage with a close friend. The day after prom is recovering after all that dancing! A late lunch in the sun with all of your girlfriends is a fun way to reminisce yester-memories.
Liz:The day would start with brunch, followed by manis and pedis with your girlfriends. Next, everyone would pile into one car and drive to the MAC store for makeup appointments. After getting dressed and ready, everyone would go to the meet-up house for pre-prom celebrations. After prom it's inevitable that you'll end up cruising PCH or Sunset Blvd. followed by the up-all-night after-party.
What is your ultimate slow dance song?
Rachel: “Suga Suga” by Baby Bash
Liz:"Come Undone" by Duran Duran.
… and your ultimate “dance like no one’s watching” song?
Rachel: It's super cheesy, but it's “Since You Been Gone” by Kelly Clarkson. In my defense, any other hip hop song gets me in the mood to dance, but it's all in the groove. When Kelly's song comes on, like, I wouldn't want anyone watching me dance to that song!
