Check out these handy tips for hosting a great at-home cocktail party with a special touch:

Choose a theme: It doesn’t have to be as crazy as a pirate theme! Choose something tasteful such as a color theme or regional flavor (e.g.: French Flair, Wear White After Labor Day, Americana)

Pick the perfect playlist: Even if you don’t have a distinct theme, set the ambiance with a pre-made music playlist. You can even set the pace & mood by starting out with slower tempos, ramping up to a faster tempo as the party gets going, and then slowing down the pace as the evening winds down.

Serve up special hors d’oeuvres: While chips-and-salsa is an easy option, it’s not the most exciting. Treat your cocktail guests with more scrumptious options like fondue with exotic cheeses, or downsize your old favorites like lobster bisque served in shot glasses or potatoes au gratin served in cute ramekins.

It also helps to label your appetizers accordingly so everyone knows what each delicious dish is!

P.S. Remember to check your guest list to accomodate vegetarians and other dietary restrictions.

Offer glass stickers: Help your guests keep track of their glasses with little ID stickers. You can even pick ones that fit your party theme!

Enjoy responsibly: As the host, your prime responsibility after making sure the guests have a good time is to make sure everyone gets home safely. It doesn’t hurt to collect keys before you get the party started and hand them to designated drivers after the party winds down. Be prepared to call for taxis if need be, or if you have the extra room, offer a bed or couch just in case.
