Last week our Senior Manager for CLT, Jane Judd, and our CLT Lead for the Canada Team, Jean Dunning, went to the Rainbow Room in New York City for “The Copernican Awards 2008” dinner and awards ceremony. This award was established by Creative Good and The Councils, “a peer-learning and leadership network for executives.”
The selection criteria for this award is “companies that place the needs and expectations of their customers at the center of their business, thus allowing customer insights to shape strategy, culture, product development and everything they do.” Companies are nominated by the +400 members of The Councils. Actually 3 companies receive this award, large companies with at least 1 billion dollars of annual revenue, medium companies with 100 million dollars per year and small companies that are under 100 million dollars per year. Zappos was a finalist in the Medium category along with Facebook, FreshDirect and kayak.com – um, I already said we won so so much for dramatic suspense.
Well actually, they announced the winners at the awards dinner, so I imagine Jean and Jane were probably pretty curious how things would turn out. Well, after a very posh reception and dinner, the finalists were announced, the envelopes opened and this year’s winners were presented their awards by last year’s winners. So WholeFoods presented to Apple, Pandora presented to Zipcar and Shutterfly presented to Zappos. Previous winners in the medium category are Tivo and Netflix.
Here’s Jean (in black) and Jane at the Rainbow Room for the pre-awards reception.
Hurray for Team Zappos, a heartfelt thank you to Creative Good and The Councils for recognizing us and to our wonderful customers, who not only say nice things about us, but also truly compliment us by taking the time to tell us how we can serve you better.
