The wonderful Mayor of Zappos turned 59 yesterday and the help desk team decided to do something extra special for his special day. At Zappos co-workers often decorate each others desks for their birthday, but this one was over the top! Could you think of a much more exciting way to be surprised on your birthday than a cubicle full of balloons and a homemade pumpkin cheesecake?!? I think not.

Most of us come to work on our birthdays because we enjoy the people we work with, as well as to to see what they have cooked up for us. While we usually always have cake for birthdays, there is usually something else going on in the kitchen. For Sandra A., birthday presents came in the form of her own office supplies, and they came wrapped in plastic! We've definitely all heard stories of this happening, but we always think it could never happen to us. Happy Birthday Sandra, hope it was the best ever!

Monday was our 2nd Annual All Hands meeting at Zappos. It was a team effort to pull it off, and everything fell into place wonderfully! We were also celebrating Zappos 10th Birthday, so the happy hour followed soon after!

Zappos employees love finding reasons to celebrate and eat cake and lucky for us with as many people as we have here at our office, it seems like there is at least one birthday celebration going on each day.

Today, is Lauren C.'s birthday and her team really went above and beyond for their celebration. Not only did they decorate her entire desk with cards and banners, everyone on the team made her a special birthday sweet.

Oh, and did I mention this was all done by the time their 4am shift started!?!

Happy Friday! Today started out very Happy as we started off the morning with a very special Happy Birthday Jingle to our CEO presented by our very own in house Trio, the Zappettes! This may have been their biggest gig yet! The Zappettes have been delivering sing-o-grams non-stop for all occasions. Not only are they talented and beautiful, but very humble and generous...all proceeds gained go to the Zappos charity of the month. What a way to start your special day, Have the best birthday ever, Tony!

The Zappettes were busy today with back to back bookings. They gave singing grams to birthday celebrants, Kathy C. and Steph B. This in house Zappos singing group has been a huge success. Not only are they spreading angelic cheer, but all proceeds go to the Zappos charity of the month. Happy Birthday ladies, hope your birthday is as harmonious as your singing gram!

Earlier this week, our resident financial expert & host of “Feelin' Frugal, Matt T. had a birthday. We all got together in the days prior and brainstormed on how to make that day extra special for him. We decided that the greatest gift would be to show him that his frugality has made an impact on our lives.

So, instead of spending our hard-earned money on a cake from the market, we made him one from things that we found in the lunch room. Who doesn’t dream of blowing out their Cheetos candles on their special day? No birthday is complete without the perfect card, though… something that really says how much you mean to the people around you. So of course, we ripped out a sheet of notebook paper and came up with a little rhyme to sum up the day. Roses are red, violets are blue. You’re so frugal and your birthday is too. Happy Birthday Matt!

So Happy, Happy Birthday to all who celebrated a birthday this week, and remember not to hide it, but flaunt it! Your new age looks good on you – actually I really can't tell the difference from yesterday to today, but I'm sure there's an extra birthday glisten in your eye that makes you look older and wiser, and we like wise people at Zappos.

Even in an office of over 900 employees, birthdays don't go unnoticed – mainly because birthday celebrations = free cake for the department, if not the entire office. So HAPPY BIRTHDAY Laura L.! And thank you HR department for the lovely red velvet cake!

Galen H., Director of Casual Lifestyle and a Zappos Icon, celebrates his birthday on this fine August 13th!

Galen has been with Zappos in the Merchandising Department since January of 2004 has been a jack of all trades in times of need, even jumping in and managing our Customer Loyalty Department for a year when he was called to duty! On a side note, Galen is the most sharp dressed man at Zappos (next to Chris P., that is)

Galen's team presented him with a birthday cake(s) in appreciation!

Galen has spent years dedicating his life to helping the customer, the employees and the partners of Zappos.com, and for that, on your birthday.....We Salute You, Good Sir!

Many moons ago, a man was born in Germany that now is a driving force for change and departmental cohesiveness that is a model for the future. So, on the anniversary of our own Alex K.'s birthday, in our desire to show tribute to this fine humanitarian, co-worker and friend, we waited until he stepped away from his desk for a moment, and then trashed it beyond repair.

Ryan A. from the FEZ team and Eric V. organized everything. (who, as you might remember, was treated on his birthday by the Alex and the fine FEZ team.) Eric ordered six 30 inch pizzas from Napoli's here in Vegas, and they were excellent! In the video below, we bring them in true Zappos parade style.

In the photo, we and our covert team of DEV and Creative Service people are "decorating" Alex's desk. Alex, we love ya! Happy 18th birthday. ;)

Every month the photo department gets a cake for everyone's birthday of that month, and to welcome the new comers to the department. There is so much cake going on in that department!

I guess the person making the cake didn't think that newbie was the right word or they thought it was a person? Either way, it's funny!

Today is a fine day here at Zappos for many a reason, but mostly, because it is the anniversary of the birth of one of our finest Zapponians, Rob S.!

Rob is a Customer Loyalty Manager and he is one of our veteran employees. Rob is a Colorado native (sort of), a music fanatic and a fine guitar player and singer as well. The man's nickname is Smilin' Rob for a good reason: He has not stopped smiling since 1993....seriously, I would not lie to you. It's kind of the like the Joker situation in the first Tim Burton Batman movie, but minus the menacing overtones....just joking, Robby. ;)

This is a beloved employee here at Zappos and he makes Zappos a great place to come to work everyday. Rob, on the day of your birth, we salute you!
