Our facilities department is a very important part of our Zappos team. Every other department here relies on them in some way on a daily basis. They are always asked to help out with projects around the office, and they are always more than willing to help. One of the reasons they are so great is their supervisor Patti C. She has been with Zappos for four years, and is loved by everyone.
Today was Patti's birthday, and her team in the facilities department decided to surprise her with a pot luck. Thank you Patti for everything you do for all of us!
If you've had a chance to take take a peek at our Core Values, toured our Offices or Warehouse, or seen any of our Videos, you already know Zappos is unlike any other company. We filmed this video to show to our New Hire groups when Tony, Fred and Alfred are out of the office. Although I wish it was used more, I'm happy to say that Alfred, Tony and Fred have yet to miss an opportunity to talk to a new hire class since the video was made more than 6 months ago!
Remember the year your mom didn't want to spend money on a costume, so she made on by hand that you were so embarrassed to wear. How about that costume you just had to have of your favorite teen idol.
Almost everyone has memories of that one bad costume. We went around the Zappos office and asked, "What was your worst Halloween costume?"
One of the best things about Halloween is all the great candy you get. With Halloween this week, we decided to go around the office and asked some employees, "What is your favorite Halloween candy?"
This past Saturday was "Make a Difference Day," where millions around the world volunteer and help others. The Goodie Two Shoes Foundation is an organization that provides disadvantaged children with new shoes and other supplies that they cannot afford. Goodie Two Shoes has several events throughout the year, but this is their annual event which is the largest of the year. During this year's event,
they gave shoes, socks and backpacks to over 1500 children in Las Vegas.
Goodie Two Shoes is a charity that Zappos has been working with to help provide shoes for their organization. Several Zappos employees volunteered at the event, as well as several hundred others from several companies throughout Las Vegas.
Zappos merchandising happy hours are always quite the party, let me tell ya. All the different lifestyle merch teams do skits, they celebrate the accomplishments of the teams for that quarter as well as individual accomplishments.
This past happy hour was a big day for Chris P. Not only did his performance team have outstanding numbers for the past quarter, but Chris was surprised with a promotion to Director of Performance. Chris has been at Zappos for five years, and not only has built a really strong team, but is someone who exemplifies what the core values are all about.
Our Cruise Ship operators were hard at work this week holding events to celebrate Customer Service Week for Zappos employees, and on Tuesday, the magic of Green Screen technology graced our lunch room. I'll let them explain!
No matter how happy a person you are, how great your job is, or how much fun your co-workers are to be around, everyone has those little things that bother them at some point during their day. We usually refer to these minor annoyances as "pet peeves".
For those of you who cringe every time you walk by you co-workers messy desk, or steam comes out your ears every time you get cut off in traffic, don't worry, you're not alone. Here are the pet peeves of some of the employees around the Zappos office.
Have you ever bought a car sunshade that took you more time to fold than the time that your car will actually be parked out in the sun? Well, the new Zappos.com sunshade, exclusively from the Zappos Zollar Store, is kind of like that...or maybe it's just me.
Anyone who knows anything about Kentucky sports knows about the rivalry between the Louisville Cardinals and the Kentucky Wildcats, and the Zappos warehouse is not exception. Whether you bleed blue or you're a hardcore Cardinals fan, you can't deny the blast we all had on Wednesday's Tailgating lunch!
Everyone brought their team spirit and red/blue shirts and hats! We had a DJ playing loud booty shakin’ music with real live dancers from U of L! The Lady Birdies put on a great show for everyone at lunch time. Great hamburgers, hot dogs and fries with lots of prizes! We all filled out a sheet of paper with our team circled (Louisville Or Kentucky) for a drawing to win a set of awesome tailgating stuff including team chairs, a small grill, charcoal, cooler, football, a blanket/throw and just all kinds of fun stuff.
Night shift had a fire pit for some light source, and they made some yummy S'mores. Great times! Just ANOTHER reason why I love working at Zappos. Thank You SO SO SO much for everyone who had a hand in putting this event together!
So with all that being said... What's your color?!
Zappos has been preparing to take part in the 8000 Meter Challenge that is coming up soon. The challenge is to hike three specific mountains in southern California in a 24 hour period. Since the challenge is almost 40 miles of hiking, she decided she wanted to get some training in while at work.
Melissa has been walking around the office the past few weeks in her hiking clothes and backpack, and has been walking on her stair master while at her desk. It may seem a little weird, but we have to give her credit for being "Passionate & Determined."
Yes, it's that time again! We semi-retired the Zappos Cheer Up videos a few months ago, but we felt that everyone could use a little cheer-me-up right now, so we are up and running again! And to start us out, we aren't actually cheering someone up, we are just celebrating our good Zappos buddy Sarah having her baby yesterday!
If you know someone who needs cheering up, email zapposcheerup@zappos.com.
