The Sunshade of Great Confusion

Sep 22, 2009 by Melissa L.

Have you ever bought a car sunshade that took you more time to fold than the time that your car will actually be parked out in the sun? Well, the new Zappos.com sunshade, exclusively from the Zappos Zollar Store, is kind of like that...or maybe it's just me.

Rivalry week at Zappos!

Sep 21, 2009 by Christina Y

Anyone who knows anything about Kentucky sports knows about the rivalry between the Louisville Cardinals and the Kentucky Wildcats, and the Zappos warehouse is not exception. Whether you bleed blue or you're a hardcore Cardinals fan, you can't deny the blast we all had on Wednesday's Tailgating lunch!

Everyone brought their team spirit and red/blue shirts and hats! We had a DJ playing loud booty shakin’ music with real live dancers from U of L! The Lady Birdies put on a great show for everyone at lunch time. Great hamburgers, hot dogs and fries with lots of prizes! We all filled out a sheet of paper with our team circled (Louisville Or Kentucky) for a drawing to win a set of awesome tailgating stuff including team chairs, a small grill, charcoal, cooler, football, a blanket/throw and just all kinds of fun stuff.

Night shift had a fire pit for some light source, and they made some yummy S'mores. Great times! Just ANOTHER reason why I love working at Zappos. Thank You SO SO SO much for everyone who had a hand in putting this event together!

So with all that being said... What's your color?!

Melissa Trains for 8000 Meter Challenge!

Sep 10, 2009 by Jason C.

Zappos has been preparing to take part in the 8000 Meter Challenge that is coming up soon. The challenge is to hike three specific mountains in southern California in a 24 hour period. Since the challenge is almost 40 miles of hiking, she decided she wanted to get some training in while at work.

Melissa has been walking around the office the past few weeks in her hiking clothes and backpack, and has been walking on her stair master while at her desk. It may seem a little weird, but we have to give her credit for being "Passionate & Determined."

Zappos Cheer Up: The Return

Sep 9, 2009 by Brett H.

Yes, it's that time again! We semi-retired the Zappos Cheer Up videos a few months ago, but we felt that everyone could use a little cheer-me-up right now, so we are up and running again! And to start us out, we aren't actually cheering someone up, we are just celebrating our good Zappos buddy Sarah having her baby yesterday!

If you know someone who needs cheering up, email zapposcheerup@zappos.com.

Enjoy, and Congrats, Sarah!!!

How Long Can You Wear Your Chuck Taylors?

Sep 1, 2009 by J P W

Heather bet Ebonique a dollar a day that she wouldn't wear her purple Chucks for a month. Ebonique took her up on that bet, and in the spirit of Core Value #3, she one uped the bet and wore uber hip 80's outfits along with her purple Chuck Taylors the entire month of August. Well, every day except the 31st that is! How long can you wear your Chuck Taylors?

Zappos Business Units Take the Next Step!

Aug 29, 2009 by J P W

We are happy to announce that our Customer Loyalty lead Jean D. has implemented the Internet Vendor Mentor program. This new program allows our vendors the opportunity to listen in on phone calls from our customers regarding questions about their respective categories. For example, if one of our rideshop vendors wants to hear questions that our customers are asking about skate shoes, they can sit in with representatives of our rideshop business unit. We currently have 5 business units: Kids, Outdoor, Running, Comfort and Rideshop.

Great job, Jean!

Rapped Up in Hoopla!

Aug 24, 2009 by Michele K

KY Content sponsored the Safety Core Value activity in July with hosting the first Safety Idol at the Kentucky location. The focus was to incorporate fun and a little weirdness, and increase the awareness of safety in the fulfillment center.
To enter the contest, teams of up to four employees, were faced with the challenge of putting safety topics in the flow of a rap…...which had to include the word HOOPLA!

HOOPLA is:
H - Healthy work habits equal Healthy Employees!

O - Observing the Core Values!

O - Organization that empowers individuals to be an active part of Safety!

P - Personal Protective Equipment!

L - Learning about Safety is Fun!

A - Awareness is the key to Success!

With a unanimous vote, Andrew Kim, Jimmy Music and Nick Catt, won the Safety Idol and also appeared live and presented their new hit single HOOPLA at the all hands meeting in July. The room rocked and gave a standing ovation at the completion of the rap performance, which was the opening act for Tony, Alfred and Fred to then address the group.

Way to go, Fellas!

Fun can be found rain or shine!

What's more fun than good old fashioned fried chicken, potato salad, corn hole games and a badminton match? Add a water balloon fight and the chance of getting struck by lighting and you've got the quarterly KY Content team outing!! Members of the photo, imaging, video and styling teams at the Zappos fulfillment center in Shepherdsville, KY ventured out into what looked like sunshine for an afternoon of fun, food and games at Bernheim Forest. Though we were rained out in the end, we left with full bellies, smiles and another team photo to add to our scrapbooks. See you in Quarter 3 everyone!

CLT Cow Award!

Jul 30, 2009 by Jason C.

The Zappos Customer Loyalty Team not only makes it part of their daily routine to wow customers, but they always go out of their way to help out fellow Zapponians. They set up a recognition program to thank those for being especially helpful in CLT. They call it the "Cultivator of Wow" award, or COW for short. Each team made a fun cow box to house all the nominations.

Spirit Week in Kentucky

Jul 28, 2009 by Michele K

Blue hair spray and Face painting?... Spirit Sticks?... Cheer contests and fake tattoos?... Where are we, at summer camp?

No, this is spirit week at Zappos.com... didn't see that one coming did ya?

http://blogs.zappos.com/servlet/JiveServlet/downloadImage/38-5970-3227/spirit-weekready.jpg

When I started here 2 years ago, I walked into an environment that I had never been around before. I was surrounded by people who enjoyed being at work. Within a month, I was hooked, not only on the culture, spirit, and values of Zappos, but on the happiness I felt when I went home. Still to this day I feel the same way. Spirit week to me isn't only a week out of the year.... it lasts the whole year. As of June 28th, I became B1 singles Lead.... I never would have been motivated enough to go for a lead position if it hadn't been for the spirit and culture of Zappos pulsing through me, and THAT'S A FACT!!!!

Tchotchke of the week!

Jul 25, 2009 by Jason C.

As the saying goes, "One man's trash is another man's treasure." At the Zappos office, a lot of little interesting items end up all around the building, and Hollie has found a great way to display some of these little "treasures".

Hollie set up a display box in her area that she calls her "Tchotchke of the week" box. When most people hear the word tchotchke, they usually think of something that's a little tacky and probably worthless. Yet here at Zappos, since we are the company that embraces "Create fun and a little weirdness" as one of our core values, we look at Hollie's tchotchke box as priceless.

Team Kaizen and Zappos CLT Training

Jul 24, 2009 by Jason C.

Zappos Customer Loyalty Team takes great pride in their commitment to proving the best customer service possible. One of the ways they do this is their continuous training of CLT employees. Team Kaizen's job is to help everyone in CLT with the training available to them. All this training allows team members the ability to gain further knowledge and growth potential within Zappos.

This week, Team Kaizen held a "Snack and Chat" to go over some of the new training programs available for the CLT members.
