What are you thankful for?

Nov 23, 2009 by Kari P.

It's that time of year--time to think about what you are thankful for. Last week we went out and about the Zappos FC and asked people what they are thankful for. We had a very similar response across the board....family. We all have a lot of reasons to be thankful and our Zappos family is definitely one of those reasons as well! Oh, and of course., in true Kentucky tradition, we found this answer as well:

Celebrate!

The Zappos Outlet Store set a record of $500,000 in sales for the month of October, and celebrated this week with a surprise team party on Wednesday, November 11th. The team was treated to breakfast from Panera Bread, as the managers dressed in 70's costumes, presented each team member with Stress Relief Kits and gift certificates to the store, all to the theme of Kool and the Gang's "Celebration!".

Sue Maurer, Outlet Assistant Manager, commented on how awesome the team has been at displaying Core Value #2: Embrace and Drive Change

"The Outlet Store has been transformed since August with the help of our Fulfillment Center friends! We have increased our display capacity on the sales floor and our back stock area by at least 30%. We have also changed our pricing structure and have increased our marketing efforts in order to pump up the volume of our sales. Our team has definitely driven and embraced the many changes that have come our way over the past few months and their dedication has paid off in a big way! Special thanks to our fellow team members in Finance, IT, Maintenance, and all of the people in the FC who have helped us with their expertise!"

This past weekend we had a rockin' good time at the KY FC Zappos Fall Festival. HR did a great job of putting this event together. The festival was at the zoo and we had food, slammin' music, a baking contest, inflatables, and tons of other family-friendly activities. We loved it and had a great time. Thank you, HR!

In honor of LIVESTRONG DAY we had a lemonade stand with fresh-squeezed lemonade and yellow cookies here at the FC. All proceeds will benefit the Lance Armstrong Foundation. Oh and all of our employees were encouraged to wear yellow today. You all look so good in yellow!

Woodstock Revived at Zappos in KY

Oct 8, 2009 by Michele K

As usual for Zappos; expect the unexpected …. on August 12 and 13th we were invaded by Hippies who all seemed to be looking for Woodstock.

So we made Woodstock happen, from the Volkswagen beetle to Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin blaring on the Zafe Speakers. Team members really stepped up to show their hippie style from Bell bottoms to Tie Dye shirts. We even saw a pair of Hot pink Platform Boots in Pack/Ship.

KYCT set up to take photos of our Hippies in the FC. Each team that wanted their photo taken contributed $1 for the Zinny jar (which goes to charity) and some gave more than the $1…..just because!

Thank you to everyone who helped out to make this happen.

As part of our Rivalry Week festivities, we had a Duct Tape Challenge here at the KY Fulfillment Center. The only rules were to pick red or blue and let your creativity run wild. Our team members did a great job! We're always up for creating a little fun.

There's a Time for Work..........

On Wednesday, July 8, 2009, it was a time for play. For those of you that missed out, our managers took the time to put together an employee appreciation day just for us. The managers not only participated in the activities on their shift, but also took the time to participate in the festivities of the opposite shift as well.

We were called to the zafe area a little after start-up, where Anthony V. announced we were going to have two hours of fun and games for the first employee appreciation day held at the new warehouse. We were then herded to the side door and greeted with chicken and pork chops. This was not only wonderful because it was such great food, but also because it was soup, salad and sandwich day.

There were plenty of activities to participate in. We had our blow-up obstacle course along with a blow-up rock wall. If you didn't want to play in either of them, you could participate in karaoke, dodge ball, limbo, sack races, shoe toss or the money box.

This was the first time I have witnessed an event held at Zappos in which everyone got together and got paid to play and have fun. It was a pretty amazing day at the fulfillment center. I definitely felt the positive team and family spirit. I, along with the rest of our team, would like to give a BIG thank you to all of our managers here at Zappos!

Rivalry week at Zappos!

Sep 21, 2009 by Christina Y

Anyone who knows anything about Kentucky sports knows about the rivalry between the Louisville Cardinals and the Kentucky Wildcats, and the Zappos warehouse is not exception. Whether you bleed blue or you're a hardcore Cardinals fan, you can't deny the blast we all had on Wednesday's Tailgating lunch!

Everyone brought their team spirit and red/blue shirts and hats! We had a DJ playing loud booty shakin’ music with real live dancers from U of L! The Lady Birdies put on a great show for everyone at lunch time. Great hamburgers, hot dogs and fries with lots of prizes! We all filled out a sheet of paper with our team circled (Louisville Or Kentucky) for a drawing to win a set of awesome tailgating stuff including team chairs, a small grill, charcoal, cooler, football, a blanket/throw and just all kinds of fun stuff.

Night shift had a fire pit for some light source, and they made some yummy S'mores. Great times! Just ANOTHER reason why I love working at Zappos. Thank You SO SO SO much for everyone who had a hand in putting this event together!

So with all that being said... What's your color?!

Sep 19, 2009 by Kari P.

The Logistics Network has created a unique annual competition, The LogistiX Games, that are a great opportunity for local and regional companies to build employee pride, establish teamwork principles and reinforce the safety standards vital to the industry. When Zappos heard about this competition we just knew we had to take part! Here are the events that our team took place in:

  • Pallet Puzzle Sprint
  • Pallet Jack Relay
  • Pick/Pack Hurdle
  • Truck Mini-Marathon
  • Box Put (which included throwing a carefully packaged box of three bottles of KY Bourbon a certain distance without breaking them!)

So, how did our team do? Check it out!

What Makes You Happy?

Sep 16, 2009 by Kari P.

Here at Zappos we are all about happiness! We wanted to get to know our fellow employees a little bit better and find out what makes them happy. So we took some time out of our day to walk around the Fulfillment Center here in KY and find out what makes our employees happy by having them write their answer on a board and pose for a lovely picture.

This one was one of our favorites:

Rapped Up in Hoopla!

Aug 24, 2009 by Michele K

KY Content sponsored the Safety Core Value activity in July with hosting the first Safety Idol at the Kentucky location. The focus was to incorporate fun and a little weirdness, and increase the awareness of safety in the fulfillment center.
To enter the contest, teams of up to four employees, were faced with the challenge of putting safety topics in the flow of a rap…...which had to include the word HOOPLA!

HOOPLA is:
H - Healthy work habits equal Healthy Employees!

O - Observing the Core Values!

O - Organization that empowers individuals to be an active part of Safety!

P - Personal Protective Equipment!

L - Learning about Safety is Fun!

A - Awareness is the key to Success!

With a unanimous vote, Andrew Kim, Jimmy Music and Nick Catt, won the Safety Idol and also appeared live and presented their new hit single HOOPLA at the all hands meeting in July. The room rocked and gave a standing ovation at the completion of the rap performance, which was the opening act for Tony, Alfred and Fred to then address the group.

Way to go, Fellas!

The brief ceremony was observed by several Zappos employees as well as the family members of the scouts. Following the ceremony the scouts and their families enjoyed lunch and a tour of our fulfillment center.

The Blogs team is responsible for putting content on the blogs page, but that's not all we do. We are actually known internally as the A/V or "Audio Visual Club" We film product knowledge seminars for our CLT counterparts, as well as create videos for the presentations of our fellow Zapponians. Recently, we were asked by Craig A, our VP of Services and Operations to produce an updated video of our FC to show in the front lobby of our Henderson, NV office. We were happy to do so, and we hope everyone enjoys the new video.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you, The Zappos.com Fulfillment Center!

Zappos.com 10 yr Anniversary / All Hands Meeting

Aug 20, 2009 by Michele K

The Kentucky warehouse closed down completely for 2 hours on Wednesday June 24th, 2009, which is almost unheard of in Zappos-Land! Everyone gathered in Sheperdsville, KY for the the 10th Anniversary All Hands Meeting.

One of the hightlights of the meeting was the Time Capsule that was created especially for Zappos. All the departments brought a box filled with treasures to place in the huge metal box.

We watched a documentary created by the video department of team members sharing their stories on how Zappos.com has grown in such a short time. We had food and drinks for all, along with a performance of the winning “Spirit Week” cheer performed by the Photo Department.

All team members were paid to attend this meeting! What? Yep! Paid to party!
THE MOST AWESOME PLACE TO WORK!
