Yesterday we had an unhealthy food cook-off, and I had some leftover bacon, 1 piece to be exact. I asked everyone if they wanted it, but it sat around for a couple hours. Around 1PM Pacific time I placed said bacon in Brett's bag. A few hours later we had Andrew J. Rosenthal from Happier.com in the office for an interview/tour. While I had the camera out I asked Brett to show us what was in his bag. You won't believe what happens next.
As you may already know by now, the Zappos office if full of pranksters. We've had pranks ranging from olive filled marshmallows to confetti catapults, but today Mikal is bringing back the classics with the old spider from the ceiling trick. EEK! I hate spiders! That prank used to get me every time. Thank you Mikal for bringing prankster back old school.
Missy and her Inner-Office Cockroach have struck again.
Our dear Help Desker Heaven T. received her just desserts when this cockroach showed up special delivery for her last week. It was revenge...for Heaven started the curse of the Inner Office Cockroach before...and now the curse lives on.
Lynn, our User Experience Queen here at Zappos, is a thrill seeker by nature. She has more energy than our entire blog team put together, I also wanted to point out.
So, Lynn, in her infinite madness, has decided that, for her upcoming vacation, she would kick back, relax, and swim with sharks in the waters near Guadalupe Island. It's one of the worlds capitials for Great White Shark populations.....you know....the kind of shark that Roy Scheider, Richard Dreyfuss and the scary boat captain dude were trying to catch. Ahhh....the calm soothing grooves of possible death.
And, since, today is her last day before heading off to 'relax', our design and UX teams decided to comfort her nerves with a homemade shark cage (made with great care by John F. and Sara M.).
Just about everyone in two buildings were in on this, and Lynn seemed to be completely surprised.
Like to leave your computer unlocked? Leave your Badge in the Break Room? Tim hasn't been here a month and has learned the hard way that leaving his computer unlocked while away is a BIG No-No! Tim sits in a somewhat crazy section of Finance so leaving his guard up is a must ecspecially being the "New Guy".
He has accidentally left his computer unlocked and was given a new and very strange background along with an email sent to the Department from "Tim" that read "One time at Zappos I left my computer unlocked." Just today he mistakenly left his Badge in the break room. Good thing someone was nice enough to return it back to his desk, well, not exactly on his desk, but close enough!
Melissa, our newest blogger here in Zappos land, was surprised today by a healthy helping of cottage cheese waiting for her on her keyboard when she got back to her desk after lunch. This may seem like a prank, but it was actually just a gift from her friend, Kris K., another wild and crazy person from the land of Zappos. Here is a visual representation of her post-lunch surprise.
This is her reaction....very happy indeed.
Melissa will return the favor to Kris in due time; you can bet on it!
Poor Scott Schaeffer. Treasury Analyst in the Finance department has a deep and sincere love for all things Harry Potter. He even has a wand. This month Scott is in CLT training and somone has decided to kidnap his Harry Potter wand. They didn't just kidnap it though. They have replaced it everyday with something new. The first day was a twig.
The next day it was a Starbucks Straw, and the next a toothpick. All imprinted with "Harry Potter" Today it was a paintbrush.
Scott wants the wandnappers to know that he misses his wand very much and hopes it is safe and not scared.
