etnies Malto RVL & RVM

Nov 6, 2009 by Jim C.

In a sport dominated by the two coasts, it’s easy to forget that there’s a vast space right in the middle of America, where kids like Sean Malto are tearin’ it up in the heartland. Malto rides with etnies, and what better way to bring it all full circle than with a fresh new colorways of the RVL and the RVM that has Malto and Midwest written all over it?

Home is where the heart is, and that’s especially true with these signature colorways. Malto isn’t afraid to rep his hometown in his video parts, and as a result, this colorway bleeds Kansas City blue all over. Gold accents help add that extra kick of pop into a classic skate silhouette and it also features signature Malto embroidery details at the heel. Plus, it’s all backed up by the fresh features of both the RVL and the RVM, like the STI G2™ heel system that’ll ensure smooth landings and the STI™ Foam system that offers cushioned comfort even after a hard day of drilling down some sick tricks.

So show KC some love and check out the Sean Malto RVM and RVL from the Zappos Rideshop!

Vans x R. Crumb Pack

Oct 23, 2009 by Jim C.

R. Crumb, despite working entirely outside the mainstream comic book industry, is considered to be the founder of the underground comix movement and its most prominent contributor. Crumb began his career as an illustrator for American Greetings in Cleveland, but by the late ’60s he had moved to San Francisco where he became involved in underground publishing. In 1968, Crumb founded the seminal Zap Comix, which is still an outlet for leading artists today. One of his most recognized works, “Keep on Truckin’,” became a widely distributed fixture in popular culture in the ’70s. In 1981, Crumb produced and edited a new comic magazine, Weirdo.

By the late ’80s, fed up with America’s urban sprawl, Crumb sold a number of his sketchbooks and moved to a new home with his family in the south of France. Crumb seldom ventures back to the U.S. and, in recent years, has been immersed in his latest project, illustrating the book of Genesis. Two of Crumb’s most recognizable characters are featured in this Vans x R. Crumb project with Mr. Natural appearing on the SK8-Hi Deconstruct and Fritz the Cat dropping in on the special Vans Classic Slip-On.

Oct 6, 2009 by Cat!

We love spying new trends and picking up new steeze for our Rideshop, and Sanuks Tube Flops have definitely caught our eye. From tradeshows to the beach to the streets, we've started seeing them everywhere. Now since they're not your average flip flop (or leg warmer), we thought it would be helpful to provide a few "how to wear" pics for you to give you some outfit and styling ideas.

...and our last model is our awesome rep Nate, who went straight for the bling with his tube socks of choice. (he might have forgotten to take his sock off, but he could also be embracing the full tube sock sock look?) Yah Nate!

Grab your tube socks here and don't forget to check our Rideshop and blog site for upcoming trends and 'must haves' for Fall!

Word to the tubey floppies!!

Oct 4, 2009 by Cat!

Word on the Vegas streets is Burton's coming to town.. Did someone say party?

Yes that's true and yes we did! Get off your couch and hold off on that hangover until Sunday so you can make it out to Burton's new movie premiere this weekend at the District. The Burton crew is packing up their RV with all the essentials: beer, a band, their new movie THE B, their team, and making the haul out to Sin City this weekend for a night of fun and fiasco to show Las Vegas what powdered dreams are made of.

The crew is rolling in on Saturday and will be holding an autograph session with their team riders from 6-8 at the District, followed by the premiere of their new move THE B. But wait, there's more..they're also bringing the band Really Addictive Sound with them to jam out, and holding an after party at Al's Garage (sorry kiddos, this is the only part of the night you have to have a real 21+ ID for) to keep the festivities and brews flowing.

Come meet the team and check it out Saturday night at the District (what else are you doing?).. and don't forget to check our Rideshop for Burton's latest and greatest sic winter steeze!

Skate Item of the Week: The Matix Asher Rasta Black Hoodie

Sep 18, 2009 by James Hamel

While it is never in good taste to generalize about people there is one undeniable trend among those in the Skateboarding community. Not only do they generally love a good session of shredding and grinding at a local skate park but they often times turn to snowboarding during the winter months. Oh yes, and one more thing. They usually love Bob Marley. I mean, who doesn't love *Bob Marley*?

This is where the Matix Clothing Company's Asher Rasta Black Hoodie comes in. Warm enough for the coldest winter yet breathable enough to be worn in the fall or early spring, the Asher Black Hoodie really is a jacket for all seasons. Not only does this hoodie look cool and keep you warm but it also makes a statement for anyone out there who loves to skate, snowboard and rock out to Bob Marley's seminal album "Rebel Music."

The Matix Clothing Company Asher Rasta Black Hoodie has Kangaroo pouch pockets on either side and is fully lined with nylon to help keep you cool. For a textured look and feel the Asher Rasta Black Hoodie has banded cuffs and waist. Why is that important? So many hoodies are loose around the wrist and waist that they make people who may be physically fit look fat. Always remember that wearing loose clothing is not a cover up—it will just make you look overweight.

This hoodie is also 100% machine washable, available only in black with a small red, yellow and green rasta emblem, this hoodie is sure to sell out quickly. So, regardless of where you are or what you are doing, the Asher Rasta Black Hoodie will not only keep you warm it will also express your vast and varied interests.

Vans x Pixies Colab

Jul 27, 2009 by Jim C.

Although this Boston-bred band was around for only a short time in the late 80's and early 90's, the Pixies melodic punk and surf-rock sounds inspired bands such as Nirvana, who in turn influenced a generation of musicians. The band reunited in 2004, and rumors still fly today about the band's future. Vans' Pixies release salutes the band with artwork from their 1997 best-of compilation album Death to the Pixies. The artwork, depicting a nude frontman Black Francis giving a thumbs down salute, was originally seen on the band's first posters and t-shirts. Available now from the Zappos Rideshop in the Classic Slip-On as well as the SK8-Hi.

DC x Groove Armada

Jul 22, 2009 by Jim C.

http://blogs.zappos.com/servlet/JiveServlet/downloadImage/38-5917-3220/DC1.jpg

A worldwide act formed over a decade ago, Groove Armada is a duo made up of Andy Cato and Tom Findlay from Cambridge, England. Now primarily based in London, they produce and record music as well as host semi-regular club nights in London, plus travel for select shows worldwide, playing for tens of thousands at a time. The duo's combined love of so much different music inspires them to dish out house bass-lines, 80's pop samples and heavey choruses. Put that on a stage and you've got a musical firework show just made for gettin' down!

For this project with DC, Groove Armada created two seperate and distinctive shoes, each reflective of their history. The first, the Night and Day A-250, has a serious case of schizophrenia. The glow in the dark logos are sure to be noticed all night, and come morning and searing sunlight it brings, the black and white croc embossed leathers will transform to show a perviously hidden background color pop.

The second, the Multi/Mismatch Volcano, utilizes the lively techno color theme from GA's merchandise and graphics. With a bright color palette set, Groove Armada took the shoe to another level and used a mismatch execution, meaning the left and right are slightly different from one another. Find the Volcano now in stock from the Zappos Rideshop!

Brand new colab shoe from Vans with Dutch born illustrator Parra! Now he lives in Amsterdam and draws vintage style art pieces with a modern, post-pop art approach. His vibrant, colorful and often humorous images feature a distinctive, hand-drawn feel. They can be seen printed and drawn on paper in various exhibitions globally. Oh, and keep an eye out for his new wave clothing label Rockwell, too! Available from the Zappos Rideshop on the Era.
