Dec 3, 2008 by Eisla Sebastian

One of the best vacation spots for skaters in the American South is Tupelo, Mississippi. This city not only has a quaint, functional, free skate park to play around in, but it also has an amazing history that stretches back thousands of years. This is also the birthplace of Elvis Presley, so if you are a fan of the King as well as a skater, this is a must visit destination.

Tupelo Skate Park
The Tupelo Skate Park can be found at 655 Rutherford Road in Tupelo, Mississippi. It is a free skate park that has an interesting collection of skating features. This park has several ramps of various lengths, rails, a fun box and a few other concrete features like ledges and benches. This is a skate-at-your-own-risk park, so bring your own helmet, padding and skateboarding shoes.

Tupelo Historical Attractions
Tupelo has a rich history that stretches back to Native American tribes like the Chickasaw. This was the tribe that Hernando DeSoto met up with in the area back in 1540. This fierce tribe pushed DeSoto's team all the way to the Mississippi River, which would become the "discovery" that would seal DeSoto's claim to fame.

Civil War battles were also fought in and around this city. Some of the battlefields that you can visit include the Tupelo National Battlefield and Brice's Crossroads National Battlefield Site.

For a modest Southern town, Tupelo has a great collection of attractions for you to tour. The top attractions include Elvis' birthplace, the Tupelo Buffalo Park and Zoo, the Tupelo Veterans' Museum, the Tupelo Automobile Museum and the Malco Theater. Other great sites to visit include the Natchez Trace Parkway, which is a 444-mile trail that will take you from Natchez to Nashville, the Private John Allen National Fish Hatchery and the Oren Dunn City Museum.

Planning a Vacation to Tupelo, Mississippi
When you plan a vacation to Tupelo, you need to select activities based on what you are interested in, such as skating or the Civil War. You will also want to look for special events that are planned for the month that you will be visiting the city. For example, if you visit the city in June, you can attend the Elvis Presley Festival.

Nov 24, 2008 by Eisla Sebastian

One of the greatest thrills a skateboarder can have is racking up new skateboarding experiences. If you have a goal to skate at as many skate parks as possible, consider trying out some of the smaller city skate parks. If you happen to be in the state of Washington, you will have dozens of these smaller skate parks to work your way through. One skate park that you will not want to miss out on is the ever-expanding Edge Skate Park found in Redmond, Washington.

Edge Skate Park - The Basics
The Edge Skate Park is located at 8420 161st Avenue NW in downtown Redmond. It offers about 7,700 square feet of concrete skating terrain. It is primarily a street-course skate park with features like stairs, rails, platforms and edges. However, there are also a couple of quirky quarter pipes that you can practice tricks on.

Edge Skate Park - The Rules
Since this is a public skate park, you are responsible for your own actions and your own safety. To protect yourself you will want to wear a helmet, padding, proper skateboarding shoes and clothing. You will also want to make sure you don't bring glass, food or beverages into the skateboarding area.

Other Amenities Offered by Edge Skate Park
The Edge Skate Park is a part of a larger city park that serves Redmond's downtown area. This park sits on nearly an acre and a half of land and has plenty of space to skateboard and set up an impromptu soccer game. This park also offers you an information kiosk and an art wall. If you use this park, remember to pack out everything you pack in or at least use the garbage cans if you have items that need to be thrown away.

Setting Boarding Goals
Setting goals can help you focus the development of your skateboarding career. If your goal is to skate at as many skate parks as possible, start a list of parks that are available and a list of skate parks that you have used. As you skate at different skate parks, move the parks from the available list to the skated-at list. You can also add a third column for remarks and comments about the park. To keep your fans up to date about your skating adventures, post your lists and comments on your social networking page.

Best Vacation Spots for Skaters: Skate Parks of the Caribbean

Nov 13, 2008 by Eisla Sebastian

One of the best tropical vacation destinations for skaters to visit is Grand Cayman. This Caribbean island is easy to get to by plane or cruise ship. However, the biggest attraction for skaters is going to be the Black Pearl Skate and Surf Park. While this park offers some of the best surfing and skating options in the Caribbean, don't spend all your time at the park, because Grand Cayman offers amazing natural and cultural attractions. If you are ready for the vacation of a lifetime, pack your skateboarding shoes and head for Grand Cayman.

The Black Pearl Skate and Surf Park
The Black Pearl Skate and Surf Park is both the largest concrete skate park in the world as well as the home of one of the largest, artificially produced, standing waves in the world. If you are a skater then you will enjoy the 52,000 square feet of skating terrain offered by this park, as well as its great collection of beginner, intermediate and advanced skating features. The surfing section of this park offers a Wavelock Surf Machine, which is capable of producing standing waves up to eleven feet tall in a surfing area of over 1,200 square feet. Both sections of the park are serviced by a pro shop that offers equipment rentals and instruction in surfing and skateboarding.

Grand Cayman's Attractions
While you are in paradise, don't forget to try out some of the other tourist attractions. First of all, stop by the city of Hell and send a letter or postcard to your friends. The postmark will show that the letter was sent from Hell. The novelty postmark is about all that is offered by this little outpost, so you will need other plans to fill your day.

Stingray City is a must see attraction. You will need to charter a boat or guided tour to get to this attraction. However, the effort is well worth it, as the diving here is considered to be world class. Here, you will be able to interact with stingrays and other marine life. Plan this adventure on Monday, Wednesday or Friday to avoid cruise ship traffic and crowds.

Other attractions you won't want to miss include the Mastic Trail, the blowholes, the six beaches and Rum Point.

Coolest Skate Parks: Rotary Club in Black Rivers Falls, Wisconsin

Nov 11, 2008 by Eisla Sebastian

There are dozens of cool skate parks in the United States. One of the coolest is the Rotary Club Skate Park in Lunda Community Park, found at 1400 Tyler St., Black River Falls, Wisconsin, 54615. This hybrid skate park was completed in July 2006 and offers about 9,500 square feet of skating terrain.

Rotary Club Skate Park - Basic Features
The Rotary Club Skate Park is a very unique skate park. It utilizes a hybrid technique which pairs ramp equipment, normally used above ground, with concrete block retaining walls. This combination has several advantages including no seams, no gaps and no guard rails. This is great if you are just learning how to ride a ramp or trick off a ramp, because you don't have to worry about tripping over gaps and other design imperfections.

In addition to a hybrid ramp design, the Rotary Club Skate Park offers several great skateboarding features. Some of the features that you can find here include a half bowl, ramps and a multi-tiered plaza. The advantage of skating here is that you can find skating features to fit your skill level if you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced skater. The only real drawback of this skate park is that it doesn't offer skate-box formations. This is a real drag that many skateboarders hope will eventually be fixed.

Rotary Club Skate Park - Having Fun at the Skate Park
In order to have a great time at the Rotary Club Skate Park, you need to come prepared to have a good time. To start with, you need the proper skater clothing to (1) look cook and (2) protect your skin from road rash. Next, you need to bring the proper safety gear. This means bringing a properly fitted helmet, elbow and knee pads and a pair of shoes that have enough grip on the soles to keep you from skidding off your board. The final accessory you need to bring to the skate park is a good attitude. If you come to the park in a funky mood, you are not only going to prevent yourself from having a great time, but you are going to increase your chances of bringing other skaters down with you.

Oct 29, 2008 by Eisla Sebastian

Shanghai, China is one of the best vacation spots for skaters. This city is amazingly rich in culture and is also the home to the largest skate park in the world. If you are looking for an exotic vacation destination, consider exploring the skating culture found in Shanghai.

The SMP International Skate Park
In the United States it is easy to find skate parks that are between 7,500 square feet and 15,000 square feet. However, these parks pale in comparison to the SMP International Skate Park with its 13,700 plus square meter park layout. For those of you unfamiliar with the metric system that is about 147,000 square feet of skate park terrain. Like I said, this is a big park.

The SMP International Skate Park can be found at 2100 Songhu Road, Shanghai, 200438, China. You can get to this park by taking the line three bus to Jiangwan Tsum Station and then taking a taxi to the park. Once inside the park, you will find a bowl area, a park zone, a plaza-recreation area and a competition area. The bowl area utilizes granite pool coping, something you most likely won't find in many U.S. skate parks, and it is over 4,500 square meters. The park zone offers an additional 1,750 square meters of skating space, the plaza/recreation/viewing area offers over 4,100 square meters of entertainment and the competition area takes up about 2,000 square meters of space.

One of the best things about this skate park, besides its huge size, is that it is the home to several competitions and to the SMP skate team from Shanghai. If you are lucky enough to be in Shanghai during a competition then you will want to take advantage of the opportunity to watch the team practice and compete against local and international skating professionals. What a way to cap off a vacation to Shanghai!

Other Attractions in Shanghai
While the skateboarding is great in Shanghai, you won't want to miss the other great attractions that this city offers. If you enjoy shopping, then you will find an amazing collection of authentic China clothing, as well as a great selection of skater wear while in Shanghai. If you prefer to enhance your vacation with cultural attractions, you will want to make plans to visit the Yuyuan Gardens, the Shanghai Museum, the Jade Buddha Temple, the Longhu Pagoda and Longhu Temple and the Shanghai Animal Zoo. Finally, don't forget to sample some of the local cuisine.

California is one of the best states in the United States to visit if you are a skateboarder. Nearly every town has at least one skate park for you to try out. If you are planning a trip through Mammoth Lakes, California before the snow falls, or during the next dry season, you'll have a couple of little skate parks to try out. However, helmets and full pads are required for both of the skate parks, and fines are assessed if you are caught without them. Because of this you will want to make sure you pack your skateboarding gear and clothing.

Mammoth Lakes Skate Park - Mammoth Lakes, California
Mammoth Lakes Skate Park can be found about a half mile off of Highway 203 on the Sawmill Cutoff. It is a very small park, only about 7,800 square feet. It is an outdoor skate park made primarily from concrete and asphalt. It doesn't have a vert course, but it does offer a small trannie course and a small street course. Some of the features that you will find at this park include a pyramid, grinding curbs, rails, Jersey barriers and a quarter pipe. This is not the best skate park in the world, but if you are camping out at the Shady Rest Campground and need a place just to stretch your wheels, then you can try this park out.

Mammoth Lakes Wave Rave - Mammoth Lakes, California
According to the locals, the best park to ride in Mammoth Lakes, California is the Mammoth Lakes Wave Rave. This is a small skate park that is made from wood and concrete. This is an outdoor skate park that is partially shaded, so you need to watch out for ice accumulations in the shady areas when the temperatures start to dip. This skate park can be found at 3203 Main Street in Mammoth Lakes, California. It offers a vert course, a trannie course and a street course. Some of the features that can be found at this park include a mini ramp, a big roll in, pool coping and a spine. Again this is not the best park in the world, but it is a great diversion if you are out in the woods camping and need to feel a little asphalt beneath your wheels.

Just stay off of private property, don't skate downtown and don't skate where there are a lot of people. Like I said, your best bet is going to be the city's skate parks.

The first option that you have is the Sixth Avenue Skate Park. This is an 11,000 square foot skate park that offers a great selection of features. According to the locals a few of the best street skating spots are the AC Reynolds High School, where you can find ledges and handrails, the Beaver Dam, where you will find a great selection of challenging ledges, the HESS Rail, which has a very challenging flat bar rail over a large gap, and the Health Depot, which has three up and three down, flat bar rails, benches and a bump up.

Oct 6, 2008 by Eisla Sebastian

Vancouver, British Columbia is home to numerous skate parks. In fact, there are skate parks located in nearly every borough in the district. If you are in this city and have a need to grind rails or catch some air, try out the China Creek Skate Park. This skate park can be found inside the China Creek South Park in East Vancouver. This is an outdoor park that has a lot to offer beginner, intermediate and advanced skaters.

China Creek Skate Park - The Basics

China Creek Skate Park is a very basic, outdoor skate park. It is primarily made up of asphalt and concrete, with concrete lining the bowls and asphalt covering the street course segments of the park.

While not the premiere skate park in Vancouver, China Creek Skate Park has a reasonably good variety of skateboarding features to play around with. On the street course segment of the park, you will find benches, flat-bar rails, round-bar rails and various obstacles. In the interior of the skate park, you will find a variety of bowls, ramps and launches. Many of the ramps and launches are homemade, so be careful. Check the ramps and launches, especially those that have been brought in by skaters, to make sure that they are sturdy enough to handle you, your board and the momentum needed to trick off the ramp or launch.

China Creek Skate Park - Competitions

China Creek Skate Park is the location of numerous skateboarding competitions throughout the year. Two of the most popular skateboarding competitions held at this park are the Jaks Team China Creek Competition and the Memorial Skate Competition.

If you want to practice for these competitions, bring your board, your skateboarding shoes and your tricks to the China Creek Skate Park. To do well at these competitions, you will want to practice your tricks and skills both inside the bowls and on the street course. If you live in Vancouver, you can practice year round. However, if you are traveling to the city for the competition, arrive a week early so you can become familiar with the shape, depth and temperament of the skate park before the day of the competition. This will improve your performance and your chances of walking away a winner.
