Due to the SSL vulnerability that was announced yesterday (POODLE), Zappos has taken proactive steps to disable SSLv3/v2. SSL or secure sockets layer provides encryption to prevent your information from being intercepted in between you and a service provider, such as Zappos. If you are using an older browser to connect to our site, you will be impacted by this change and should upgrade to a more secure version.
Zappos Blogs: Technology
Is it a phone? A tablet? A phablet?
We know you're having a tough time taking your phone/tablet/phablet in and
out of your pant pocket. We've seen it all, missed phone calls, broken
screens, poor blood circulation (here's to you skinny jean wearers), and
worse, phantom vibration syndrome.
While we can't agree on what to call it, we can all agree on needing
bigger pockets. We are so happy to introduce Zappos Mobile-Ready Pants, just in
time for the iPhone 6!

Hey Zappos customers! As you may have heard already, a serious flaw called
Heartbleed was disclosed on Monday, April 7th in a popular encryption
software named OpenSSL. Our awesome systems and security team had our
systems patched that afternoon. But since then we have received some calls
and emails about this issue and we want to help clarify a few things.
What is it?
You know that lock you normally look for or "https:" on websites to check
if your information is protected through encryption? Well a lot of
websites use OpenSSL to enable that functionality. The flaw allows an
attacker (bad guys) a way to circumvent the encryption. If that happened
there would be a possibility of seeing usernames, passwords, and other
What did we do?
Our systems and security teams patched the vulnerability on Monday
afternoon, shortly after the vulnerability was announced and the patch
came out. And as an added precaution, we've reissued our certificates on
the site. We've reviewed our systems and have found no indications of
malicious activity. We also want you all to know that we rely on a number
of tools to ensure your accounts are protected outside of OpenSSL and
we'll continue to monitor your accounts to ensure they stay safe.
How to verify what we've told you:
Some of our wonderful customers have been struggling to understand how to
determine if we are still vulnerable. And some have said they still see us
as being reported as 'likely' vulnerable on some sites. This is due to the
test being performed against our primary domain name 'www.zappos.com'.
However, the part of the site that uses OpenSSL and contains the sensitive
data is 'secure-www.zappos.com'. When you login, check your account, and
purchase/checkout our awesome products, these actions are only performed
on that secure domain. Therefore, that's the site you have to check.
As you can see, the secure portion of Zappos.com is properly protected
against the Heartbleed issue on these two sites:

Settings > Display > Daydream > Zappos > “Start Now”
Daydream was released to the world as part of Android version 4.2 – a minor update to Jelly Bean that also included lock screen widgets, multiple users, nested fragments, and RTL layout support (for all you non English speakers out there!). Basically a screen saver, Daydream runs on your phone or tablet when you’re not using it. There are a few options worth knowing about once you’ve decided that you’d like to Daydream…
First off, you’ll need to pick a Daydream to use. To do so, open up your Settings app and look for an option called “Display” – or similar. Under there, you’ll find a Daydream option that lists all of the apps you’ve got installed which support Daydream. You can select each and hit “Start Now” at the bottom of the screen to see what they do. Once you’re done, pick Zappos – but I’m sure you were going to do that anyway ;)
Another option that’s worth pointing out is “When to Daydream”. This is pretty obvious, but without going into this menu and picking “Either” you’ll only see a Daydream when your device is docked. If you’re like me and don’t own a dock… you’ll never see anything! So, make it easy on yourself and choose “Either” from this menu. That way you’ll see your Daydream whenever you’re docked or charging.
Some Daydreams also allow you to configure their settings – these will have a settings icon near their names where you can configure various attributes. Zappos allows you to pick the gender of product you’d like to see. Want to daydream about women’s shoes? Now you can!
When we first set out to include a Daydream in our app, we were not quite sure of where to begin. We wanted to produce a screen which was useful, but which also highlighted our products, which are sometimes not the easiest requirements to satisfy. During our brainstorming session one thing that kept coming up was weather – and so we ran with it.
While the Zappos Daydream is running on your phone we’ll be going out to the National Weather Service and loading in the current conditions for your area. From that, we’ll apply some super secret matching and find products that we think would match your weather. So for example, right now when it’s a hundred below zero you might be seeing snow boots or sweaters. When it’s mid July, you’ll instead see sunglasses or sandals (unless it’s a hundred below in July – in which case you’ll still get snow boots!).
Our android engineers worked up some fancy animations to swap between products, giving you a nice hands-off view of our product catalog. Like something you see? Just tap the image and you’ll be taken into our app where you can find out more details about the product.
We’d love your feedback if you’d like to see more features in the Zappos Daydream. Till then, pleasant dreams!
Today, Zappos is happy to release the latest update to its Zappos app for iOS (iPhone®, iPad® and iPod®): Version 2.9.0, which offers some exciting improvements to the Zappos shopping experience on a phone or tablet.
Customer Account Improvements
We’ve continued to renovate our user account information and the latest update increases a user’s control of his or her account.
In addition to being able to modify saved billing information and saved shipping address information, users can also modify their account password. We’ve also added the ability to set a primary billing information and shipping address for faster checkout!
Once a primary billing and address are set and verified, Zappos shoppers can use “EXPRESS” checkout to skip the selection process and go directly to the “Submit My Order” screen. If the purchase is a gift, users will see another added bonus: we’ve added personalized gift messages as an option in the checkout process.
We’ve always considered the detailed order history within Zappos mobile apps a key differentiator. The “My Account” section features each shopper’s entire Zappos purchase history, accurate order status information, visual live order tracking and access to our easy return process.
We put a cherry on top with 2.9.0 by adding product images to order numbers on the order history page so it’s easy to tell which order is which. Tap the product image to see the other items in the order.

iPhone Order Summary Screen
We’ve also made the checkout experience more intuitive by detecting out-of-stock items in the shopping cart before the checkout process begins. If the item requested is out of stock, shoppers can move that item to their favorites and we’ll notify them with a push notification when it’s back in stock.
Browsing and Searching for Products
One of the best parts of the Zappos app is the fun and ease of finding the products you’re looking for. We’ve already got streamlined category navigation, powerful search as well as easy access to recent and saved searches right from the search entry field.
With this update, we’ve taken our powerful sort and filter options a step further: users can now exclude brands, specific styles, colors (and more!) they don’t want to see results for. For example, if you want to see every new blouse but hate the colors red and orange, you can just filter red and orange items out. So much easier than selecting every single color other than red or orange, right?

Cats, Dogs, Robots and Zappos Flair
Zappos isn’t just known for its unmatched customer service, wide catalogue selection, detailed product information and high definition images and videos. It’s also the market leader in quirkiness! This undervalued metric is something Zappos prides itself on and we’ve taken our “quirks” a step further with the ability for the user to choose their own “flair”!
An early Zappos feature, putting an item in a cart triggered a cat animation on the screen. Now, users can choose between cats, dogs and robots or a combination of them to add their own flair! For added fun, try shaking your iPad while on the Zappos App home screen, and see what happens next!

Today, the Zappos.com mobile team released the latest version of the Zappos App (version 3.0) for Android and Kindle. This release contains the most significant changes and feature updates since the inception of the Zappos Android App. Read on to hear more from Zappos’ mobile software engineers Matt Runo and Matt Kranzler (a.k.a. “The MATTS”) about some of the new changes. Happy shopping!
Even Easier Shopping and Shipping
In a world where you have too many credit cards or your spouse shares your tablet, the new version of the Zappos app helps you keep things straight by allowing you to color code and nickname your credit/debit cards (i.e. His Visa, Her Visa) so you can quickly identify the card you want to use for your purchase.
Redesigned My Account Page
Account page redesign includes product thumbnails for each order and a simple selection process for shipping and payment methods.
Redesigned Saved Payment Screen
Create an easier shopping experience by storing your payment types, organized with easy-to-view icons.
Saved Payment Custom Color Theming
Do you use more than one payment type for shopping? Customize the color of each of your payment types!
Upon purchase, our new UPS package tracking widget (below) shows you how many days, hours or minutes until your package should be delivered. You can track as many orders as you would like, and as an added bonus you can track any UPS packages, not just those from Zappos.
Intuitive User Interface
Our Android app now looks and works well on all Android-powered platforms due to the responsive design we incorporated. The new product pages are buttery smooth and our tablet app features fancy animations as well. We went out of our way to make sure that UI controls are positioned just where you'd expect them - right under your fingers - no matter what device you're using the app on. We’ve also made it easier to expand our high-res photos to full-screen: just tap on the photo with two fingers or hit the Expand-O-Matic button in the action bar and voilá.
By working with some new features in the Android operating system, we're able to store your account on your device instead of requiring a PIN entry, and we can log you in automagically. Of course, you can always log out if you'd prefer not have your account stored.
Fast and Easy Checkout
Our entire checkout flow has been re-envisioned from the ground up. We spent hours watching our users work through the checkout process and found several places where we could make things better… so we did!
- The biggest change in the checkout process you’ll see is that it is now contained within a single screen, making the entire process clean and simple
- We’ve added a visual indicator so you know how many steps you have left before your final checkout page
- We redesigned the shipping address, shipping method and payment method selection process to make things easy to find and select.
Combined, these changes make the checkout process much more fluid and easier than before.

Exclusive Technology Helps Keep Couples Together
HENDERSON, NV – April 1, 2013 – This morning Zappos.com announced the launch of a new Fashion Management System (FMS) which will notify customers when sock/sandal combinations are added to their shopping carts, blocking them from making a purchase. Zappos conducted numerous focus groups and learned that an overwhelming 93% of men who wear socks-with-sandals are less attractive to their spouses.
“We’ve all experienced this travesty, and as a service company, we felt it was our responsibility to save the world from this fashion epidemic,” says Chris Peake, head of Zappos Product Development. “There’s still a lot of work to be done, but the war on socks-with-sandals is worth fighting.”
While in beta, the FMS is available to customers whose cumulative lifetime spend on the Zappos.com website exceeds $1 million. To sweeten the deal, Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh has offered a free awkward dancing llama from his personal collection on a first come, first serve basis to FMS users who make a purchase today.
We’re even more excited about this new update. Some of the things you will find in this update:
