How to Wear Colored Heels Properly: Pair them with a Little Black Dress! in Fashion Culture

Nov 19, 2009 by Tiffany B.

If you have never worn a pair of colored heels before then the perfect way to start wearing some awesome colored heels is by pairing them with a black dress. Colored heels are a great way to spruce up a little black dress for just about any event.

The reason why wearing colored heels with a black dress is the best place to start is because every color goes with black, with maybe a few exceptions when it comes to fashion. You can pair a red pair of heels just as well as a purple pair with a black dress. It all depends on your personal style and what color shoe attracts you.

The most common colored heel that we normally see with a black dress is red. A red shoe will definitely draw attention to your legs, so if you are not into showing off your legs, you may want to avoid a pair of bright red heels. A red heel adds an interesting contrast to a black dress and can be worn to just about any event, such as a cocktail party, a wedding, or even to a work party.

If you are willing to be a little more daring and take on a more stylish approach than just red heels, try branching out with different colors. For example, hot pink is a really popular color now and with a black dress, just about anyone can rock hot pink heels. Another trendy color is purple. Unlike hot pink, purple is a little more subdued but definitely will still get you on the best dressed list. Some other colors to consider with a black dress are green and yellow.

With a black dress you can also choose to wear multi-colored or patterned heels as well. A really trendy fashion style is a black dress with a pair of leopard or zebra print heels. Look for patterns and prints that have unusual colors such as an animal print with red coloring as well.

If you have wanted to try your hand at wearing colored heels, try out this fashion trend with a little black dress and you may just end up wanting to explore new options for your fancy colored heels.

Carving or Painting Pumpkins for Thanksgiving in Parents

Nov 19, 2009 by Amy B.

Who says carving pumpkins is juat a Halloween activity? Carved pumpkins make great decorations for Thanksgiving as well, not to mention that they make for a wonderful family night activity. And, if you have little ones, painted pumpkins are just as fun. This week, let's talk about decorating some pumpkins for the wonderful fall season family activity.

While making your own design on a pumpkin can be fun, there are also a number of templates available online for free. And, thanks to the wonderful tools that can be found at your local department stores, you can easily recreate images on your pumpkin. There are many tricks when it comes to decorating pumpkins.

First of all, you don't have to carve all the way through a pumpkin to get a great look. You can actually use wood carving tools to simply carve away the outer layer of the pumpkin. When a candle is inserted, the flesh of the pumpkin glows giving a fantastic look.

Speaking of candles, you don't have to cut the top off the pumpkin. It's much easier to cut the back out of the pumpkin. This makes it much easier, and safer, to insert candles and light them. Of course, don't forget that you could also use flameless candles, if you prefer.

To keep your pumpkins looking fresh, you can coat them in Vaseline wrap them in plastic wrap and then refrigerate until the big day. This ensures your pumpkin doesn't look droopy once Halloween or Thanksgiving arrives.

As for painted pumpkins, you can draw the design on using a magic marker and then let kids color the images in with paint, just like a coloring book. Not only is this fun, but the pumpkins last longer as well.

Last, but not least, remember that these tips aren't just for pumpkins. Squashes can also be decorated for fall. In fact, you could do a whole scene of different pumpkin and squash characters.

Work Related Stress Management Tips - Learning to Decompress in Comfort

Nov 19, 2009 by Eisla Sebastian

Stress is a natural part of life that we all have to learn how to manage. What makes this component of life so destructive is that it is cumulative and contagious. The more stress we are exposed to, the more impact it has on our lives. Fortunately, if you learn simple steps for reducing your stress experiences you will be able to avoid many of the pitfalls of stress like illness, physical pain and psychological torment.

Stress and Work

Work is one of the most stressful environments that you can be in. It is full of people who want something from you and who often give little in return. On top of these social stressors there are physical stressors in your work environment like poor lighting and indoor air pollution and noise pollution. Finally, your triathlon of stressors is topped off with the constant threat of losing your ability to make a living.

Minimizing Stress at Work

Since you know that you are going to be bombarded with stressors in your work environment you need to take steps to minimize their effect on your behavior. To start with you can de-clutter your work space. This will help to reduce the amount of stimulation in your environment and help you to focus on what is important. Next you can set up your office so that you are comfortable. This may mean rearranging your furniture to give you access to the most natural light possible and it may also mean replacing various pieces of furniture to ensure proper ergonomics.

Decompressing After Work

It is important to leave the stress of work at your front door. As you walk into your home you need to decompress and shift into home mode. This can be done by first shedding your work clothes and putting on something that is loose fitting and comfortable, like a pair of lounge pants. This one change can quickly change the way you feel physically and emotionally.

Next you will want to keep everything low key. Instead of immediately rushing to make dinner or clean your apartment, take five minutes to become comfortable and to reset your mind. After this is done you will be in a much better mood and you will be much better able to address the chores that need to get done.

Incorporating International Fashion into Your Wardrobe: French Berets in Fashion Culture

Nov 19, 2009 by Yissel C.

We love the French, everything about them is elegant and chic, their culture, their wines, their fashion and the list goes on. One particular fashion that has always been a French staple is the French beret, making its way into the forefront of American fashion trends this fall for women. The beret compliments any layering look.
http://couture.zappos.com/n/p/dp/53318560/c/3.html

Juicy Couture has a great selection of berets that are trendy and edgy. The wavy Stripe Ruffle Beret features metallic accents throughout its stripe pattern in a classic crochet beret. It's also available in Blue/Black or Pink/White to match any cable knit sweater you choose to wear. Juicy Couture Pailettes Beret is perhaps the most modern beret this season. All over sequin is a huge trend this season, forget the sequin dresses and instead choose this wool beret sewn with allover sequins; perfect to pair with a classic white t-shirt, solid cardigan, skinny jeans and boots. But if all of sequins is a little too much, the Juicy Couture Studded Felt Beret might be easier to wear. This classic white felt hat features gold pyramid stud detailing throughout. This beret is another fashionable piece that should be worn with a basic winter outfit.

If you choose to jazz up your attire with an embroidered sweater or a sequin jacket, then keep your beret simple. Nixon's LA Woman Beanie is available is an assortment of solid colors like yellow or red to brighten up any monochromatic or all black outfit. If you're looking for something in between flashy and simple, Lucky Brand's Mosaic Beret is a great choice. The burgundy beret features a delicate floral knit detail that's like no other. Wear this with a solid black dress over black opaque leggings and black flat boots for a feminine and fun look.

You don't have to be French to own this look. Just wear your beret in confidence and you'll look oh la la chic!

Brett never designed a soup can, or hung out with celebrities in an abandoned factory, but everything he does is art. It is my great honor to showcase Brett's Drawings and Video Art in this vintage documentary film from 1966. (Please excuse the poor video quality, the footage is 43 years old.)

Also, this is a parody

Day 933 in Coach

No goal is too hard...

To attain, when we persevere.

Yes, virtually anything can be achieved over time.

This is what we must be mindful of, when we set out our goals.

Not only must we stick with our goal, in order to attain it, but we
must keep in mind to carve out the time needed to reach our goal, even
if it takes longer than originally thought, or planned for.

Persistence is key, for many of us give up when the end is near,
because we didn't plan for enough time, and in knowing this, we can
attain just about anything we set out to do.

DVS x LRG Chico Brenes "Now" Edition in Rideshop

Nov 18, 2009 by Jim C.

During the Fall, DVS introduced the Chico Brenes LRG collection with the first installment of the Munition CT Mid. You can read more about it here. That was then, this is "NOW"!

The "Now" version of the Munition CT Mid was designed with a modern, slightly more sophisticated Chico in mind. Chico is truly a man of international leisure and DVS designers embraced this idea in the shoe's aesthetics by using cigar-box themes in its coloring, logoing, and packaging. Designers also added custom snakeskin texturing on the collar and quarter panel, wrapped it in brown real nubuck, and added a viva suede liner on the interior for added cushioning and comfort.

Like unwinding with a finely cured tobacco, these kicks are made with relaxation and comfort in mind. Check them out here and all the latest and greatest from the Zappos Rideshop!

Celebrity Gossip! Rihanna Opens Up to Diane Sawyer in Fashion Culture

Nov 18, 2009 by Rebecca White-Glanders

Several months after that fateful car ride with Chris Brown, Rihanna has decided to open up about her ordeal. In an interview with Diane Sawyer, Rihanna looks thoughtful, saying, "This happened to me . . . it can happen to anyone." She also reveals that the incident was especially hard on her, since Brown was "her first big love." Rihanna's decision to finally open up about her experience with domestic violence comes at an interesting time - less than three weeks before the release of her new album, Rated R. Brown is currently serving his sentence and is also preparing to release a new album in December entitled Graffiti.

Although Twilight star Robert Pattinson constantly has to fend off advances from his eager fans, according to the actor, it's not easy. In a new interview with Vanity Fair, Pattinson says he's "trying not to drown." Although he's constantly surrounded by mobs of adoring fans, the actor goes on to say, "I'm not much of a crowd person." As to his oft-reported romance with co-star Kristen Stewart, the actor (once again) denies everything. He claims the twosome are just "good friends" and that he admires her deeply. Stewart, in her characteristic shrewish fashion, has more to say about the rumors of a romance with Pattinson: "It's so retarded."

The ever-hypocritical Mel Gibson is officially a father - for the eighth time. His much-younger girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva, became pregnant with Gibson's child while he was still married to his wife of 30 years, Robyn. The couple officially filed for divorce in April. For Gibson, who backed production of Passion of the Christ and runs his own church, this must be a proud moment.

Post-Pregnancy Exercise Tips: Getting RId of the "Mommy Tummy" in Parents

Nov 18, 2009 by Sabah K.

Even though you may have gained ten plus pounds during pregnancy, the baby weight will drop off naturally within a few weeks after giving birth. Most women lose about 12 pounds immediately after delivering the baby, and then continue to lose a few pounds each week as the body readjusts itself. However, the former baby bump can become a major problem area, and you're likely dealing with extra fat and loose skin around your waist, also known as the "Mommy tummy."

Fortunately, there are some exercises you can do to trim down that Mommy tummy in no time. In addition to an intensive cardio routine that will blast off fat and calories each week, you can tighten and tone your midsection with these stomach-firming exercises:

1. Oblique crunches. Lying flat on your back and placing your feet flat in front of you, slowly lift your torso off the ground and bend to the side, holding it for a few seconds to contract the muscles in your waist. Oblique crunches are great for slimming down your waistline and improving your posture. 50 to 75 reps per session, two to three times per week, may be all you really need to whittle down that waistline.

2. Tummy tucks. You don't have to head to the plastic surgeon to get the benefits of a tummy tuck. Plus, this easy exercise can be performed while you're standing, sitting or just waiting in line. All you need to do is inhale and pull your stomach muscles towards your spine. Hold for a few seconds to contract your midsection, then release, pushing your stomach out as far as possible. This strengthens the muscles in your midsection and makes it easier to perform other tummy-tightening exercises throughout the week.

3. Scissor kicks. An effective abdominal exercise for tightening the lower waist and obliques, scissor kicks performed on your back will strengthen that six-pack and help you achieve a more streamlined silhouette. You'll need to perform these while lying flat on your back and keep your legs as straight as possible when performing the kick. Several sets of these a few times per week can help you get that flat stomach you crave in no time.

You don't need any special workout gear to perform these exercises, so try and incorporate them into your weekly schedule to start trimming down that Mommy tummy in no time.

Living Healthy on a Budget: Preventative Health Care in Health and Fitness

Nov 18, 2009 by Amy B.

One of the many things people overlook when trying to live healthy on a budget is preventative health care. Most people think that not going to the doctor for checkups will save them money. This couldn't be further from the truth though. In fact, preventative health care can save you money over the long run. Not to mention that preventative health care can save your life. This week, let's talk about preventative health care and how it not only saves you money, but protects you as well.

A yearly checkup at the doctor's office is not a waste of money. In fact, these regular screenings can help patients become aware of conditions they may not have known about. For example, high blood pressure usually has no symptoms. This means that many people don't even know they have it until the go to the doctor for something unrelated. High blood pressure, if left untreated, can cause strokes, heart attacks, and even death. With preventative health care, patients become aware of the condition and can take measures to treat it before it's too late. The same goes for many other conditions, including high cholesterol and high blood sugar.

How does preventative health care save you money though? After all, you'll have to shell out a co-payment at the very least. But, preventative health care saves you money by treating diseases and conditions before they get too far out of hand. For example, becoming aware of border line blood sugar levels can prevent you from getting diabetes. If you know you're pre-diabetic, you can take steps to lower your blood sugar levels. By taking the steps to prevent the disease, you'll save thousands of dollars down the road by not having to buy insulin and make multiple trips to the doctor.

Preventative health care just makes sense. If you want to be healthy, and stick to a budget, don't wait until there is something wrong to see your doctor. Make it a point to get the checkups and screenings you need to prevent major diseases and conditions.

Day 832 in Coach

Nov 17, 2009 by Dr. Vik

Tired of the...

Same old thing?

Maybe and maybe not...but if you are, maybe it's time to change things
up?

It would be nice to have someone come by and ask us what we would like
changed, and do it for us...but I don't know what those people are
called, or where to find them...so it's probably not the best game
plan...waiting for them to come by.

Changing things up ourselves, if we want change, is probably the best
bet.

We just need to identify what we want changed, and pick what we want it
to be changed to, and bingo! We change what we want changed...and
it's what we want!

Or we can keep complaining about the same old thing.
