Zappos has been in the news a lot lately. First our wonderful segment on Oprah, then a little dollop of cream on top with our shopping shout out during a segment on E! News’ November 2 edition for great shoe finds under $100. Ms. Giuliana Rancic was going down the list of names, places and faces and then low and behold, a Zappos plug for our very own Steve Madden Arizonna purple fringe suede boot. Mrs. Rancic added another little ‘get thee to the site’ shopping twist, by mentioning that the shoe is a favorite of everyone’s teen queen favorite, Miley Cyrus. So folks, when you are making your list and checking it twice, noting who is naughty and nice, remember it’s Z to the A to the P to the P to the O to the S, which of course, means sanity for all, that and your shopping can remain stressless.
Zappos Blogs: boots
Florals, of all variations, were big for Fall 2008 and are still in bloom for Spring/Summer 2009. What better way to perk up an overcast fall or dreary winter day than with a lovely, flower embellished dress? We think no better way. Mix the soft with a little funky edge by pairing your floral dress with a short sleeve knitted jacket or shrug, reach for a patterned scarf knotted just so, mix in funky silver jewelry, slip on a pair of black or bordeaux colored tights, pull on a pair of edgy buckle and lace up patent leather mid-calf boots, add a decidely feminine shoulder bag and voila, pure floral fabulousness.

What’s better than a well-dressed man? A well-shod one, of course. The Couture Team loves great shoes and our fashion focus this week is on the casual, yet cool varied lace up styles. If you are the type of man that likes a boot, then D&G Dolce & Gabbana Lace and Zipper Detail Boot is perfect for you. If you like the sporty look, try on Jean Paul Gaultier’s sporty-inspired wingtips . If your tastes lean more towards a classic oxford style for work, Marc Jacobs Burnished Grey Oxford is ideal. If you like a little edge, try Alexander McQueen’s side lace-up shoes . There really is a shoe – or boot – for every man.
The Couture team is loving every moment of the fall season, what with all of the fashion offerings, how could we not. At this very moment, we are head-over-heels for booties. There’s something about this almost-shoe that’s just too cute, but not saccharine sweet, when paired with a skirt, but can also render that Avengers’ Emma Peele cool yet tough persona with elements like washed metallics, studs, stitching detail or buckles. Our picks: L.A.M.B Camden bootie , Alexander McQueen black booties , Givenchy brown suede booties and Jean Paul Gaultier metallic booties .
‘Tis the season… Fall has officially begun and there a few must haves for the season. The color purple is a big hit and looks great on almost every skin tone. Stacked heeled boots that slouch are another sure fire hit that can be paired with jeans tucked in and a funky tee. Espresso was percolating all over the Fall 2008 runways, so do add a dash to your accessory rotation. From the East Coast to the West Coast, sky-high high heel platforms are all the rage, do mix with colored tights and sheath dresses. Every Couturnista needs a dollop of effortless chic thrown in, what better way to do that than with a kid-skin slouch handbag. Who said the oxford could not be a sexy shoe? Clearly, they had not anticipated the stiletto heeled versions for Fall. Look for a smooth, supple leather or a patent leather version to add just enough sex appeal to any look. Cat calls are optional.

The Couture team is feeling the rebel yell of the changing season, torn between our ladylike underpinnings and our rebellious spirit. What better way to express it than merging the sweet with a little spice? Absolutely none! We are craving black leggings tucked into our navy buckle detail male-inspired punk-esque boots, a little pirate swagger with a dash of skulls and skeletons scarf, ladylike indifference with a leather fringed handbag, channeling a little Belgian punk spirit with lace up booties, and cuffed perfection with a crown insigna silver cuff.

The Los Angeles-based designer Rozae Nichols — known for her fabrics, layering and visual design language derived from her time working in Hong Kong and Paris — is heading to the Ugg Australia Company to design a small capsule collection of outwear. The design match is perfect, as she showed a deft, advant gard hand with shearling in her own Fall 2008 collection. The Ugg collection will consist of 14 pieces ranging in price from approximately $595 for a suede pullover to $2,300 for a full-length shearling coat. The collection has been described as a utilitarian chic point of view, keeping the authentic feel of the brand but bringing a true fashion prospective to a traditional shoe company. There is talk of the brand expanding to accessories. We can only hope, no?
There are lots of rumors flying around about the recent photos taken of me wearing thigh high boots . So I just want to post my version of what really happened. Now that the photo shoot is over, I’m trying to think back on how I was conned by the photographer into posing in them.
The photo shoot started out innocently enough. The photographer chose one of the conference rooms at Zappos headquarters and told me to just relax and be comfortable, and he took normal shots of myself and Brent sitting or standing casually in our normal clothes and shoes. We did various shots in the conference room for about half an hour, and a couple of them were pretty fun poses. There were a few shots of Brent wearing a Viking hat and me wearing a Burger King-like crown.
When it looked like the whole photo shoot was over, the photographer said “Oh, and just one more thing… I want to do a quick shot outside if you don’t mind.” Sounded innocent enough, so I agreed.
And then he said, “But outside, I’d like you to wear different shoes, do you mind wearing something more colorful or bright?”
And I said, “I don’t think I have colorful or bright shoes that fit me here at the office.”
And then he said, “That’s okay, anything is fine… you could just have something like these high heels near you.”
I’m not quite sure what happened after that. I think I blacked out. There’s a 15-minute period of my life that just disappeared. The next thing I knew, I was sitting on a bench with Brent gingerly removing the thigh high boots off of my legs and the photographer telling me that those were great shots and I looked really good.
And next thing I know, my photo was uploaded by a passing employee on our company blog.
So that’s my story and I’m sticking with it.
