You know it’s the Holidays when Ugg boots start flying out of our warehouse like free hamburgers in the lunch room! However, our loyal customers aren’t the only ones around here fighting over Uggs this season. Every year our Ugg rep, Miles, graces us with his presence and lots and lots of Ugg samples to sell to us for prices unheard of in the Ugg world. But there’s a catch, Ugg samples only come in women’s size 7, men’s size 8 and kid’s size 13. So if the shoe doesn’t fit you better make it fit, or buy it for someone who would fit into these amazing samples, because a chance like this only comes once a year.
Since the Holidays are all about giving, we hosted a Holiday Gift Drive at the Zappos Fulfillment Center in Kentucky and we had a great turn out! So many great toys, clothes, and other gifts were brought in all. We also collected gift cards for a local women’s shelter and phone cards for the troops. I am constantly amazed by the generosity our Zapponians here in Kentucky have. You guys rock!
The Holidays are a great time to show off your baking skills. From sweet breads to pies to cookies and cakes, the Holidays are every sweet tooth’s dream come true! Since cookies are the dessert of choice both here in the office and for Santa, we decided to host a “Best Cookie Ever” Competition. So, basically we wanted to really good excuse to have more cookies than usual floating around the office.
Though there were at lot of delicious and creative cookies, there could only be two winners (I know, we’re nice like that).
And the winners are:
Best looking cookie: Audrea for the reindeer peanut butter cookie surprise
Best tasting: Larry for the soft and sweet chocolate chip cookie of wonder!
The Kid’s team came in to work Monday and found a plethora of different toilet tissue covering their area like a fresh snowfall. Upon going over and investigating, I found this may have been a retaliation effort by the clothing team. Apparently the clothing team was caught in the crossfire of a marshmallow gun attack , and inflicted a few minor injuries.
The Kid’s team was thankful for the fresh toilet tissue however, and stated,
“It is Flu season, and who couldn’t appreciate fresh toilet paper during flu season?”.
The Clothing team could not be reached for comment.
Have you ever been hanging out around the house and accidentally bump your head, arm or wrist? I most certainly have, and it usually happens when you have a busy week ahead of you. It was the week before christmas of 2007, and I was walking from my bathroom to my room in the dark, and hit my nose on a closet door that was left open. I immediately ran to the freezer and found a bag of hashbrowns to keep the swelling down. I was mad at myself for hitting my nose, especially since I knew I would be taking christmas pictures with my family later that week. I later noticed that it actually straightened my nose out, but took a while for the red mark to dissolve away.
Brian K. from the UX (User Experience) team had the same such luck after bumping his arm while doing some landscaping work over the weekend. I must say I was impressed by the use of popsicles to not only keep down the swelling, but also form a splint over the forearm. Well Played Bk, well played.
During the holiday season, people usually try to spend time with family and friends. They tend to focus more on the happy things in their life.
With Thanksgiving being this week, there are many celebrations happening around the office, and there are many reasons for all of us at Zappos to be thankful. We talked to some employees about what they are thankful for.
It’s that time of year—time to think about what you are thankful for. Last week we went out and about the Zappos FC and asked people what they are thankful for. We had a very similar response across the board….family. We all have a lot of reasons to be thankful and our Zappos family is definitely one of those reasons as well! Oh, and of course., in true Kentucky tradition, we found this answer as well:
The Zappos Outlet Store set a record of $500,000 in sales for the month of October, and celebrated this week with a surprise team party on Wednesday, November 11th. The team was treated to breakfast from Panera Bread, as the managers dressed in 70’s costumes, presented each team member with Stress Relief Kits and gift certificates to the store, all to the theme of Kool and the Gang’s “Celebration!”.
“The Outlet Store has been transformed since August with the help of our Fulfillment Center friends! We have increased our display capacity on the sales floor and our back stock area by at least 30%. We have also changed our pricing structure and have increased our marketing efforts in order to pump up the volume of our sales. Our team has definitely driven and embraced the many changes that have come our way over the past few months and their dedication has paid off in a big way! Special thanks to our fellow team members in Finance, IT, Maintenance, and all of the people in the FC who have helped us with their expertise!”
