Inspired By: Back in Black

The beginning of a brand new year is leaving us feeling rather inspired to take it back to the basics – and what’s more cool, more bare-bones basic thank classic black? Or perhaps last night’s festivities, coupled with all the glitz and chaos of the holidays, is making you want to get back to a more no-fuss, no-nonsense way of dressing…and we totally get that.

Our first street style inspiration for 2015 perfectly achieves that effortless dose of style starting with a great moto jacket paired over a black sweater. Paired with loose black trousers and shiny black flats, this easy-come-easy-go look is ready to take on a stylish new year.

Check out our take on this easy back-in-black look below!

4 Brands Who LOVE (and flatter) Your Curves

I recently saw an amazing picture of a sign under a scale at a bariatric clinic in Denver that read: “This scale can only give you a numerical reflection of your relationship with gravity.  THAT’S IT.  It cannot measure character, beauty, talent, purpose, possibility, strength, or love.”

What an amazing and wonderful thing to see right next to one of the most dreaded devices known to womankind. No matter what our size, many of us spend a lot of time fretting over the numbers on the scale, rather than the numbers that really matter- the smiles we share every day, the hugs we give our friends and loved ones, or the hours we give to help others.

I personally spent years feeling that my value was directly related to the number on the scale. That is, until I learned to not only love my body for the miraculous things it is capable of. Over the years, I’ve also discovered some amazing plus clothing brands that truly understand that some women’s bodies are little more luscious and curvy than others- and do amazing things to flatter them.

There is nothing better than slipping into a fabulous piece by Kiyonna. Their cuts are amazing, the flow and feel of their fabrics are fabulous, and the fit flatters every curve while artfully camouflaging areas you might not want to flaunt.

JAG Jeans tops and bottoms utilize flattering cuts, great washes and amazing prints. I love their sophisticated take on denim that can be dressed up or down, all while defeating the dreaded muffin top! Their tops blend fabulous prints with light and airy fabrics that feel as good as they look.

7. Jag Jeans Plus Size Caley Pull-On Crop

I don’t think I can ever say enough nice things about NYDJ and their life-changing jeans and skirts.  Cut for curves and flattering for every “asset”, their bottoms are almost magical! My personal favorite feature is the knowledge that I can chase my minions around any playground in their jeans without ever worrying about bending or squatting and showing off my underthings to the other parents.

Finally, let’s talk Poppy & Bloom, a new addition to I am in total fashion lust with their gorgeous spring collection. From pinup-inspired pieces to office-ready skirts and dresses, you can’t help but feel both fierce and feminine in their clothing. They fit and flatter every curve while staying perfectly on trend.

I hope you’ll give these amazing plus fashion clothing brands a try! Their dedication to making women of all shapes and sizes feel and look fabulous is second to none, each having a great story to tell.

The Style Edit: Fashion in Bloom

As we anticipate the return of spring, let’s take a look at one of the season’s top trending motifs—floral! There are lots of inventive ways to infuse a dose of floral print into your day-to-day wardrobe. From a pretty floral dress to floral-print pants, there’s something gorgeous blooming in your horizon with this forever-girly trend.

This look is a great update to the whole double denim phenomenon. By staying with a deep, dark denim in a floral print, the outfit becomes a more elevated and grown up version of a daytime classic.

A comfy and carefree way to add a pop of floral is through a floral maxi skirt. Keep the look laidback with the addition of a shrunken tee or sweater and pair with heeled sandals.

For the ultimate in feminine style, you can’t go wrong with a shift dress done in a bold floral print. This look is perfect for daytime events, lunch dates and more. Pair with lace-up sandals and a dainty crossbody bag for a gorgeous finish.

Dress Up: 12 Spring Dresses To Love

Every April since 1839, the Friday before the Crabbies Grand National at the Aintree Racecourse near Liverpool, England becomes the fabulous celebration of style known as the Aintree Ladies Day.  This early spring day is dedicated to three things: horseracing, fashion, and fun --much like our own Kentucky Derby in May, but much more fun and carefree than the more formal races at Ascot.

Ladies from Liverpool and beyond flock to the races in amazing dresses and hats to watch the races and compete in the Aintree Ladies Day Style Contest that nets the winner a new car and a few thousand pounds in prize money.

What's not to love about an excuse to get dressed up and feel feminine and fancy?  Spring’s cheerful palettes and soft fabrics combine with great lines and on-point trends in this collection of plus size dresses inspired by the well-dressed ladies of Aintree.

Bright, tropical colors, modern florals and crisp whites were the themes of the day. Even the gentlemen dressed to match in bright, bold and whimsical prints. Hemlines ran the gamut, but the number one accessory was a great smile as women celebrated a day out with friends.

There are only 16 days left until the Kentucky Derby! I hope the gorgeous dresses below inspire you to gather some good friends, maybe even a mint julep, for our own American celebration of style and horseracing with great dresses and of course, fabulous hats!
