How Tony Hsieh Got His Start

Tony is the CEO of Zappos.com, and is a great guy to work for and hang out with. Did you ever wonder where he got his start? When Tony was in college, he used to make pizzas and sell them out of his dorm room. He had a customer who would buy several pizzas, and then come back later for more. At first Tony thought this customer was just really hungry, but he later found out that the guy was selling the pieces by the slice for a profit. This individual was Alfred Lin, and shortly after, he and Tony became very good friends. Alfred later teamed up with Tony to start Venture Frogs in San Francisco, which incubated Zappos.com and several other startups. Alfred is now the CFO and COO of Zappos.com.

This week Tony decided to make pizzas for the Las Vegas office, which Alfred intercepted, sold the slices for cash and donated the money to the Livestrong Foundation. Check out the video to see this Dynamic Duo in action!

Zappos.com on Fremont Street

When we went to cheer on Fred, Alfred, Tony and the gang at the 2010 Las Vegas Corporate Challenge Executve Relay, we did it in true zappos.com fashion. With food, games and a whole squad of Zappos.com team members and leaders, we not only had fun, but we met a lot of cool people who had never heard of Zappos.com. Here's a video of the first annual "Zappos.com Corporate Challenge Kick off Cookout on Fremont Street". Any suggestions for a shorter name? Please comment below!
