One of the most essential foundations to any wardrobe is great-fitting basic jeans. These versatile closet superstars can be worn in tons of different outfits—from the most casual days with a white tee, to nights out with a sexy sheer blouse. The possibilities are endless!
Below are three of our must-have fits for every body type, along with the easiest-to-wear washes: standard blues (darker washes for dressier looks, lighter washes for daytime looks) and of course, basic black.
Bootcut:
You can wear bootcut jeans with all sorts of shoes- from high heels to flip flops- depending on the length of the inseam. If your legs are on the shorter side, be wary of flares that are too wide, as they can make your legs look shorter. Opt for a slight flair below the knee and a close fit at the thighs.

Straight leg:
These are a great halfway point between bootcuts and skinny jeans. Straight leg jeans lengthen the look of the leg, especially when worn with heels! We also love these with ballet flats. Just make sure the length of the inseam is to where it doesn’t gather at the bottom—this can make the jeans look sloppy.

Skinny:
Contrary to popular belief, almost any body type can wear skinny jeans. Just pay attention to the fit, particularly the level of stretch. Picking a darker wash can also give the illusion of a slimmer leg. If you’re on the petite side, pick a skinny jean with a mid to high rise to lengthen the look of your legs.
Inseam is also super important when picking skinny jeans. You want the hem to hit at or slightly above the ankle—unless you are doing a cropped skinny, in which case, you can go a little bit higher.
