We know that doing pushups and getting strong is important to a healthy life style. Here at Zappos HQ we don't want to just do pushups, we want to do 100 of them in a row! That may seem impossible to some, but that’s why we put out the 100 Pushups Challenge.
Three times a week for seven weeks, a handful of us Zapponians are doing the program as listed on the hundredpushups.com site. It's a fun way to push ourselves to reach a common goal of a stronger, healthier body.
How many pushups can YOU do?
Hit the floor and get toned to the core!
If you’re looking to tone your entire body, increase range of motion and flexibility, improve circulation and posture as well as decrease back, neck and joint pain, then Pilates just may be the exercise regimen for you. With devoted fans all over the world, Pilates is definitely not just another quick-fix exercise trend.
Pilates is the best exercise for developing a stronger core, which is why athletes love it. A stronger core not only equals great abs, it means a stronger defense from injury.
If you’re new to Pilates, check out your local studio to make sure you learn the fundamental techniques. When it comes to Pilates movements, it’s not the number of reps, but the proper form that’s most important. Take your time to learn and enjoy each motion while strengthening your entire body.
This summer, free yourself from the daily treadmill and concrete grind and take those daily runs on the trail. Trail running lets you push yourself harder by taking on rough and rugged terrain. It also requires the right gear in order to protect your feet from injury.
First off, make sure you have the right socks for the job. Look for socks with extra cushioning to protect your feet from blisters and impact. The Thorlos Coolmax Trail Running Quarter sock is a good choice for both cushioning and breathability.
Trail runners have trail-specific outsoles that offer more varied traction in rough terrain. Here are some excellent choices for both men and women:
Merrell Barefoot Pace Glove: For the minimalist shoe fan, the Pace Glove gives more freedom of movement and keeps you more connected to the trail.
New Balance MT915: The unique debris-free construction keeps all unwanted elements out of your shoe. It also has a moisture-wicking liner to keep your feet dry on warm-weather runs.
The health and wellbeing benefits of yoga are widely known. Yoga increases flexibility, promotes good posture, increases muscle strength, helps manage stress and offers respiratory and cardiovascular benefits. It’s no wonder millions of Americans now practice yoga as part of their regular workout regimen.
If you want to take things up a notch in your yoga practice, try some form of hot yoga. Some of the benefits of heated yoga are: improved flexibility and range of motion, release of toxins, improve weight loss benefits, and building the immune system.
There are lots of other forms of hot yoga such as Bikram, Moskha and Hot Power Yoga. Whichever type of hot yoga you try, it’s important to start off slow. Some teachers advice new students to simply sit in the heated room for the first session in order to acclimate to the intense heat and humidity.
Last, but certainly not least, you’ll need a couple of extra essentials for hot yoga sessions:
Hot yoga mat towel: needless to say, you will sweat A LOT when doing hot yoga. So much so that your yoga mat will be drenched and slippery without the help of a super-absorbent yoga mat towel over it. Pick one that’s long and wide enough to cover your entire yoga mat.
Moisture-wicking yoga clothes: choose yoga clothes that fit close to the body but allow a full range of movement. Quick-drying fabrics are always best. Most practitioners of hot yoga opt to wear shorts instead of yoga pants.
We all know the great benefits of regular cardio workout, but sometimes, the treadmill can be a real drag. A great way to switch up your cardio routine is through swimming. Not only is it a great way to burn some serious calories (up to 400 calories in one 30 minute breaststroke session), but there’s no impact on your joints, so it’s a great workout to supplement more high imapct cardio activities like running.
For swimming laps, we recommend a good one-piece swimsuit , like the ingenious Spanx Chic Deep V Trim One Piece. This not only offers maximum shape control, it offers comfortable style that moves with you. It offers the tummy control compression that Spanx is known for, so it’s equally as great at the beach or just lounging by the pool.

For anyone who loves the idea of sitting on a boat in the middle of the bay with the sun shining and a cool breeze blowing, but also loves a good workout, dinghy sailing could be just for you. Surprisingly, dinghy sailing is quite a workout, which qualifies it as a heart healthy activity. Depending on the speed of the wind, dinghy sailing can be a very challenging exercise workout for people of all ages.
Preparing for dinghy sailing takes a bit of effort and planning. First of all, anyone going sailing must always wear a life jacket. In addition, if you're new to sailing, you may want to wear some old clothes, a swimsuit, or other water resistant gear. This is because dinghy sailboats do not have keels like larger sailboats, but merely have centerboards which are meant to keep the dinghy sturdy. Without an experienced skipper, or captain, you could easily be tossed into the water during a capsize!
If you're looking for a good workout, you'll want to head out on a day when the wind is on the heavier side. In order to keep the dinghy steady, you may need to use hiking straps. Hiking straps allow sailors, both crew and skippers, to leverage their bodies outside of the boat in order to keep the boat from tipping. It can be extremely tiresome on your back, abs, quads, and calves, but the benefit is great!
It's important to remember to always wear sunglasses and sunscreen when sailing -- this is because the water reflects the sun so you're more prone to getting sunburned. Protecting your eyes and your skin is essential! So bring along a great pair of sunglasses.
All in all, don't forget to relax on your sailing trip! Bring some cold beverages on the boat, and have fun even while you're getting great exercise.
