Picking the ideal denim to match your style as well as the occasion can be difficult, but it doesn’t have to be. Since jeans are a staple in every woman’s closet, it’s important to find the pair that matches your body type and showcases your positive assets. Here is a guide to help you choose the perfect pair.

Denim arrives to a washhouse as a very dark color but it goes through a wash process not only to help with color, but also with texture. You can purchase denim that has been treated in numerous ways. Some styles feature whiskering, a process done by fading the edges and creases to create an aged look. Abrasion, grinding and resin bake creases are the most popular treatments for premium denim. For abrasion, the denim is scraped or rubbed, most often with pumice stones, to give it a worn or faded look. Grinding is when they create a worn look by distressing the material around the hems, seams, belt loops, pockets and/or waistbands. The newest treatment, resin bake creases, is a process that replicates the look of permanent creases that would occur after repeated wear and abuse.

There are numerous leg openings/styles to choose from when you are picking denim. Bootcuts are slightly flared and offer at least 18-inch leg openings. Skinny styles are tight through the thigh and leg with 10-13 –inch leg openings. Straight styles are the same width at the thigh/knee and leg openings, while flare styles are narrower at the knee with 20-25 –inch leg openings. Boyfriend styles are typically cuffed at the shin and feature skinny or straight thighs. And lastly, the trouser is a fuller leg from the hips down.

Finding the right inseam for your body type will ensure a proper fit. Standard inseams are 32 inches, while petites are 29-30 inches and tall inseams are 34 inches. Next, you’ll want to find the right rise for your look. High rise styles are 11 inches or more and sits above the natural waste, covering the navel. Regular rises are 9.5-11 inches and the waistband sits just below the navel. Low rise styles are 7-9.5 inches and the waistband sits about 2-3 inches below the navel. Lastly, super low rise styles are 7 inches or less and the waistband sits 4-5 inches below the navel. Now you just have to find the right designer for you.
