Future Queen of England, Kate Middleton, was seen at her first official royal duty sporting a hot pair of the ravishing Rouge ankle boots from Aquatalia by Marvin K. Middleton has already made quite a name for herself in the fashion industry with her style choices. The waterproof Rouge served great purpose at the naming ceremony of the RNLI lifeboat Hereford Endeavour as she and Prince William poured champagne on the vessel in celebration. The slightly pointed toe, accent strap and breathable microfiber lining are fitting for a future queen.
As if wearing Aquatalia boots on her first royal event wasn’t big enough, Middleton stepped out the next day in another pair of Aquatalia boots (the Rumba, from last fall). Marvin K. coined the term functional luxury to describe the innovative shoe, boot and sandal designs that allow women to live their lives without ever missing a step. Aquatalia has perfected the art of fusing technical elements to the latest fashion in footwear. Ease and comfort remain essential ingredients to looking fabulous every day. Faux fur has been a reoccurring theme in past seasons, but this season is about picking one piece and building an outfit around it. Our fashion experts, Brooke and Kaya, have put together some faux fur-inspired outfits that will have you looking up-to-date and fabulous in a snap.
Try a beautiful vest, such as the Faux Coyote Crop Shrug from MICHAEL Michael Kors, paired with a long sleeve tee and jeans for a casually modern look. If you want to dress up the vest a bit, dark skinny jeans and a nice pair of heels are all you need. Silky feminine tops and studded booties make ideal partners for a faux fur vest and an over-the-vest belt will help accentuate your figure with ease.
Faux fur-trimmed boots, like the Furgetit from Stuart Weitzman, are a cute and cozy way to stay updated this season. Skinny jeans, airy blouses, clean-line coats and statement necklaces make trendy and polished additions to an outfit built around the boots. Boots aren’t the only faux fur accessory you can turn to – hats, handbags, jewelry and even socks are available in faux fur on Zappos.com. Rock your faux fur accessories with turtleneck sweaters, bootcut corduroy trousers, classic trench coats and a crossbody bag.
Less is more and as long as you pair your faux fur with some feminine pieces like silky blouses and form-fitting belts, you’ll be good to go. Hitting the faux fur trend out of the park is an easy homerun this holiday season. Check out our Trends page as well our Stylists’ Picks for sound fashion advice from the pros.

Booties are back again for this fall and are definitely a staple to have in your 2009 fall wardrobe. If you recall booties (mini-boots) made a big appearance in the fashion runways last year and were all the rage with celebrities and fashion trendsetters. It appears that booties are not going anywhere anytime soon, but the booties for this fall and winter are all about the details.
A big fashion runway trend with booties was the addition of chains. A couple layers of chains running across the front of the shoe adds some dramatic appeal to the footwear. Another detail that was seen on the runways was the use of buckles on booties. Even though these buckles served no actual purpose, they added a great fashion design to the shoes and gave them more personality.
Following this fashion trend is really not that difficult. You can easily find yourself a killer pair of booties that can get you through all of fall and winter. If you really want to spice your wardrobe up, pick a pair with chains or a buckle detail . Booties come in all different colors and materials. They can be suede, leather, or even wool. If you want to stick to the basics, then you can’t go wrong with a black or dark brown leather or suede pair.
Booties can be worn with several different outfits. Despite what you may think, it is a popular fashion trend to wear booties with skirts, preferably shorter ones. You can even add some tights or leggings under the skirt as well if you really want to go all out with the trend. If you would like to keep your fashion sense a little calmer, pair a cute pair of booties with a pair of bootleg jeans or tuck a pair of skinny jeans into them. You can wear the shoes to the office, to the park, or for a date night. They are truly a transitional piece that can be worn with just about anything.
I don’t see booties going anywhere and can definitely see them lasting through 2010.
If you work in an office that adheres to a business casual or professional dress code, selecting the right types of shoes for every ensemble can be a bit of a challenge. How do you find the perfect balance between heel height, comfort and style? While some office mavens can get away with platform pumps and stiletto heels, your feet and legs may not be in prime shape to tackle the stairs and long trek across the building in a pair of skinny heels. However, there are some ways to stay comfortable in high heels, like with Mary Janes and kitten heels for those long days that you’re on your feet.
If you choose to wear stiletto pumps or another style of skinny heel, consider adding a few gel pads for extra support on the ball of your foot. The balls of your feet absorb most of the pressure from wearing those extra-high heels, and if you plan on trotting around on them for over an hour, the extra support will prevent foot pain and soreness.
When you’re wearing kitten heels , consider wearing a thin no-show sock so that your feet aren’t slipping out of the shoe easily. Kitten heels are a great, classy alternative to the standard pump for the office, but they can feel like a pair of sandals if they’re not cut very high. Wearing a thin pair of socks with these shoes can make the shoe much more comfortable and will prevent your foot from slipping out.
If you decide to wear a pair of booties with a high heel for the day, make sure you’ve practiced walking up stairs and on elevated floors with them. Booties and boots will constrict your ankles, which means you can’t climb very easily. If you know you’re going to be tackling escalators or flights of stairs during the day, make sure you’re comfortable making the climb in these constrictive shoes.
Mary Jane pumps are great for the office, but even a platform shoe or a thick heel can put some pressure on the balls of your feet and calves. Wear some padded insoles or gel support cushions if you plan on wearing tight leather shoes for several hours so you can get the support you need.
Finding the shoe that fits for your office ensembles can take time. Make sure the heels you choose can provide the comfort and support you need to get through those long days that you’ll be on your feet.
