Emerging Designer: Lisa Taranto

emerging designer, independent fashion designers, Lisa Taranto, Lisa Taranto apparel, Lisa Taranto clothing, up-and-coming designers, women's apparel, zappos emerging designer, Zappos Emerging Designer ProgramHailing from Australia, Lisa Taranto and her design partner Lea Oldjohn both believe living and growing up in Melbourne has determined a lot of their work. "Melbourne’s influence is intrinsic with growing up here; you can’t help but be influenced by the city and vibrant lifestyle, its cultures, its (sometimes) moody weather and its checkered street style. Being so far away from the world stage helps us define our own unique style. It gives us the freedom and space to be creative and different. You can do anything here," says Lisa.

Meeting by chance through a local artist, Lisa and Lea saw a shared vision for ethical, innovative and intelligent design This resulted in their inspired collections for the LISA TARANTO clothing line thus far. With extensive knowledge in pattern making, print, dyeing, design and illustration, Lisa and Lea blend a signature aesthetic of sharp, structural silhouettes with subtle pleating, folding and draping and the use of high quality fabrics to create designs with movement, freedom and spirit.

They draw upon a love of travel, photography, film and history as inspiration and play with proportion, exaggerated lines and unusual silhouettes to carve out each collection.

Designer Lisa Taranto

The new collection, "Voltaic Doll" was inspired by movement and a vision of future fashion. It is about escapism, electricity and chemical reactions. Structured, symmetrical silhouettes and clean, tailored lines sit neatly beside signature fluid, ethereal dresses. Powerful, feminine, vibrant, independent; these make up the fabric of the LISA TARANTO woman. Fire sky red-pinks, liquid blue-greens, volcano oranges and violent violets infuse the colour palette.

Lisa Taranto clothing is proudly designed and made in Australia.

Emerging Designer: raquelle

emerging designer, zappos emerging designer, emerging designer program, zappos emerging designer program, raquelle apparel, raquelle, the raquelle collection, new york city designer, new brand spotlight, zappos apparel brands,

The raquelle Collection was born on a breezy, sunny summer morning…one of those serendipitous encounters that epitomizes New York City at its magical best.

emerging designer, zappos emerging designer, emerging designer program, zappos emerging designer program, raquelle apparel, raquelle, the raquelle collection, new york city designer, new brand spotlight, zappos apparel brands, Manhattan was deep in the 2008 summer heat when Raquelle strolled past an outdoor cafe in the West Village wearing a silky, flowing dress she had designed for fun the week before. A woman sitting at an outdoor table called her over excitedly to inquire about the dress. When Raquelle told her it was an original creation, the woman ordered three of them in different colors on the spot!

Needing the materials to fulfill her first order, Raquelle headed to her most beloved fabric store in the Fashion District. As soon as she entered, she knew that she would be making more than just the three dresses. Reams of silk needed to become flowing blouses, towering piles of cotton just had to be skirts, and heaps of fine Italian jersey demanded new life in dress form. She left the store with enough fabric to create an entire collection-and that’s exactly what she did.

This first collection was the beginning of a thrilling journey. Today, raquelle enraptures passersby from windows and storefronts of fashion boutiques across the country. Truly a mix of her Colorado roots (Howdy, Dad!) and Parisian background, (Bonjour, Maman!), the raquelle Collection is easy-going, but flirtatious, lively, yet graceful. The colors and prints are modern and feminine, but reference other times. The clothing line takes inspiration from different eras like 1960s with its clean, dramatic silhouettes, and the softly geometric echoes of the Art Deco era can be found in the prints she hand draws.

Raquelle has managed to fuse comfort with couture to create a line of high fashion that isn't afraid to have fun and live in the moment! She believes that the most important part of the dress is the woman wearing it. Like that first magical dress she dreamed of years ago, each piece is the product of one woman’s love for the beauty of life and commitment to making wearable pieces that aim to express a part of that beauty.

Emerging Designer: JHaus

emerging designer, zappos emerging designers, Zappos Emerging Designer Program, JHaus, JHaus denim, Jhaus clothing, JLynn Hausmann is a young and talented denim designer who launched a new denim brand called JHaus.  Her fresh and progressive brand is steadily gaining attention for its trend-setting styles. Hausmann credits her Midwest roots for the inspiration behind her collection and has developed a style that is uniquely her own.  She incorporates Americana motifs in a way that few other designers can.

JLynn attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln but took the opportunity to study abroad in London and Paris. There she became increasingly exposed to and interested in fashion.

JLynn proceeded to obtain her master’s degree in Business Administration in Arizona.

Raised on a farm and ranch, JLynn grew up with a less-is-more mentality. These genuine Midwest roots inspired JLynn’s use of denim in her designs. Using strong basic fabrics, she is still able to capture a flowing beauty in the designs.

When wearing jeans with embellishments was a major trend, JLynn saw the gratuitous bells and whistles as adulterating the true nature of the fabric.  Her designs use denim in a completely different way – employing restraint and achieving beauty through the rugged fabric.

Fearlessly taking the conventional and making it unconventional is what drives JLynn. Her work with JHaus Denim is gaining momentum, as well as critical acclaim, in the industry.  Deidre Crawford, Technology Editor of the Fashion Industries Guild, lauded JLynn’s work in California Apparel News: “one of the most innovative creations of the night was a backless stretch-denim dress adorned with chicken wire, created by mid-West designer JLynn Hausmann of JHAUS premium denim.
