This week, Zappos.com was named the Best Large Company to Work For in Southern Nevada for 2009. This award is given out yearly by the Southern Nevada Human Resources Association. This is the eighth year the award has been given out, and the second year in a row Zappos has won.

In previous years, the “Best Places to Work” awards have been used to recognize top Southern Nevada employers for innovative human resource practices and programs. This year was changed slightly to help recognize the businesses that have incorporated innovative ways to survive the tough economic times we are going through. This year, the award was named “Best Places to Work – Surviving Tough Economic Times.”

Congratulations Zappos, as well as all the other business in Southern Nevada that have worked hard to make their businesses great places to work.

At Zappos, we are always finding ways to have a little fun around the office. Of course having “create fun and a little weirdness” as one of our core values, we can only expect employees to play practical jokes on each other. Our Help Desk team decided it would be fun to send each other a little present that they found.

Heaven thought it was a bit strange that she received an extra Zappos box with her order, but she went ahead and opened it anyway. I’m sure she’s going to come up with something good to get them back.

Zappos is know for creating a little fun and weirdness around the office, and today was no exception. As a tribute to Oscar season, Zappos set up their very own Zappos Oscar. The lunchroom was decked out with a red carpet and bronze statues. All the employees were able walk the red carpet and take pictures just as if they were part of the Oscars.
