Even though Ashton Kutcher has made social media headlines by being the leader of the celebrities-on-Twitter trend, he is no longer the most-followed Twitter celebrity. Britney Spears has become the first person to break the 5 million follower mark on Twitter as of May 29, 2010, surpassing Ashton Kutcher as the social networking site's most popular Twitterholic.

Britney has recently been posting updates about her favorite songs and upcoming music. As of the afternoon of May 29, 2010, Britney had collected a legion of 5,015,346 followers, while Ashton Kutcher trailed behind with 4,982,734 followers, reports AccessHollywood.com. It's important to note that Britney doesn't post all of her own tweets -- some of the tweets are posted by Britney's management team.

Twitter now boasts millions of users, and those who want to keep up with the latest news updates about their favorite celebrity can track them down with a basic Twitter search. However, there are also a number of fake accounts that make it difficult to determine if the Twitter account is really a celebrity imposter. Twitter has now developed a 'Verified Account' system to confirm whether the celebrity is the real deal, or just an imposter. All celebs that carry the 'Verified Account' badge have been approved and are the real deal. The badge appears next to the user name in the 'Find People' section of Twitter.

So who else is currently sharing the details about their latest meal, music preferences and daily activities? Actors including Kate Hewlett, Janina Gavankar, Ellen Degeneres and Wil Wheaton have been tweeting since 2008 or earlier. Popular musicians on Twitter include Dave Matthews, Sara Bareilles, Jonathan Coulton and MC Hammer. Tech celebrities including Robert Scoble, Tony Hsieh, CEO of Zappos, Leo Laporte and John C. Dvorak have created their own steady following from the techie-sphere.

Whether you're tweeting from your desktop computer, iPhone or laptop when you're on the road, you can now keep up with your favorite celebrities on Twitter. Just click 'Follow' on the celebrity's profile to join the millions of fans and enjoy the ability to instantly communicate with the celeb and other fans! 

Zappos is well known for our use of twitter, but what most people don't know is that Zappos uses twitter mainly to communicate, meet up and really just to know with other Zapponians are up to.

The other day Melissa on our blogs team posted how much she loved "Choose Your Own Adventure" books as a kid, and the next day Cyndi brought back the nostalgia.  

Zappos.com decided to help provide aid to those in Haiti once the news of earthquake hit, but we weren't quite sure how we wanted to go about it. Of course donating a large chunk of money would be the obvious way to provide aid, but we also wanted to raise awareness to our customers and to point them in the right direction, thus we provided a link on our Zappos.com and 6pm.com sites to the American Red Cross Donation page.

But of course we weren't going to let our customers do all the work, and as soon as Zappos' CEO, Tony Hsieh, saw Alyssa Milano's twitter challenge, that was it. Her twitter challenge said this: "*Tweet Challenge* I just donated $50,000 to UNICEF for #Haiti relief. Which corporation will match my donation?" So Zappos matched her donation of $50,000 along with a few other companies and Alyssa's twitter challenge managed to raise $300K thus far and 100% of every donation will go directly to supplies that include tarpaulins, water-purification tablets, oral rehydration salts, family water kits, medical supplies, medical kits, food, shelter, and protection.

Now this my friends is the true power of twitter.
